  1. Maybe put up what it looked like this time last year for comparison. You said at this stage last year the snow cover was better but can you show that in your post by putting a picture up to show this?
  2. Are there any comparable analogue years which might give an indication? How do you expect it to respond? Or would you rather sit back and watch? Don't you need a cold tropical stratosphere for stratospheric warmth?
  3. So summer will be good then? There is a final warming every spring, is there not? But the strength of that warming determines whether or not we see HLB over the arctic during summer? HLB over the arctic during summer is responsible for the rapid melt seen over the arctic during the period 2007-2012?
  4. Been snowing on and off for most of the day. When it stops snowing, it quickly melts. And when it does snow, everything is covered.
  5. Very white outside now here in Kilmaurs in East Ayrshire. It has been snowing very heavily with massive flakes for over 25 minutes now. And it is still snowing.
  6. Girvan (near Stranraer) which is near you has also seen zero snow.
  7. No snow has fallen since Wednesday here. There has been some melt of lying snow but is still quite thick frozen snow cover outside.
  8. Not a flake has fallen here from that blob of precipitation that is heading south.
  9. No fresh snowfall overnight but the snowcover froze during the night so crunchy underfoot again. I hate when snowcover freezes! It looks like it will remain dry until the wind switches to a more favourable direction for snow showers to penetrate inland. A northerly is the worst possible direction for that.
  10. Yes the radar is showing that system to avoid a large swathe of Ayrshire altogether. It looks like it will be just South Ayrshire and to the south of that.
  11. Great to see the snow has returned! Whiteout conditions on my journey home this evening from Newton Mearns to Ayrshire. Not currently snowing but still lying and quite thick outside. I hope those of you who saw no snow during the last cold spell see some this time around.
  12. The snow has all melted here. Back to normal now. Temperature is still 7 Celsius here.
  13. First sunset after 4.30pm for me tonight. 6th February is first sunset after 5pm.
  14. Rapid thaw of snowcover now underway. 6 centigrade today and I believe it is expected to be higher than that on Sunday although I think it will be less mild than predicted due to the switch back to brief cold tomorrow. Snow has melted from all the roofs of houses etc. Just the grass, roads and pavements to melt now.
  15. Snowing proper now and sticking. Only 3 or 4 hours later than the radar was showing.
  16. It has been trying to snow here for over an hour but intermittently and when it does it is very light and very small flakes
  17. I can also confirm that there is nothing falling in East Ayrshire despite what the radar shows.
  18. It looks like some blobs of white are developing to the west and pushing west towards Arran. Not yet reached Arran but from the radar but it looks headed in that direction. Fingers crossed for later on. Frozen snow cover still here. It hasn't shifted at all since it stopped falling on Friday night.
  19. Was wondering that. Just watched the video on BBC Weather and Carol Kirkwood said snow is expected later.
  20. It is now firmly looking like a non-event here now.
  21. Reminds me of a similar picture taken during the deep freezes of winter 2009/2010 and December 2010.
  22. It looks another snow shower is moving in from the west judging by the extended cloud cover headed in my direction. Though I could be wrong as it is not showing on the radar.
  23. Looks like those showers are heading south east. Radar shows no further snow in the next hour or two.
  24. Don't see anything on the radar. What radar are you looking at?
