Mesoscale Convective Complex
You means MCS? I've seen an MCC in Nigeria and they are bonkers. Our hotel pool was levelled by the rainfall.
Just now, ShinyDave said:Looks like there's one line that's creeping ENE still, with the right side of it over Caen and the left side halfway over the Channel, but the added strike rate is coming to the east of that... the latter looks like the best bet for an actual UK storm I presume?

Currently in Bognor, looking south over the Channel. Peach lightning. Lots of bugs started flying about. Nature has senses right?

I can see lightning out in the channel
I'm not far from Littlehampton. Which direction?

Me too! If there's anything to report of course.
Currently I may as well be on the Portuguese coast.
Fingers crossed for some flashy skies in T+3 hours
My mother as we walked to dinner noticed the wind had dropped and the humidity picked up. The thundery showers we had at 130-2pm seemed to have cleared the damp squib over the channel and south coast.

Hi Harry,
I'm guessing it'll have a more North East direction as it hits the channel per usual. I'm in the coast in Bognor this weekend looking out over the sea. Will try post updates!

I think it looks promising for the south - I have a good feeling and there does seem to be upgraded potential on the models this morning.
I need to work out where in London I can get to on the tube, to have a good view. Any suggestions?
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know how to stop the bleep when someone else posts? I want to keep this page open all day but don't want a bleep every time someone posts.
I reckon Crystal Palace or Alexander Palace, they are all on hills and good views and of the heat Island.

Angry cell over Bognor Regis right now.

I'm in Bognor for the weekend and the storm just passing is ground shattering. Just woke me up! Lightning and booming thunder.

Indeed...unlikely based on other models. Yes the instability will build but I'd be surprised to see rainfall as extensive as that.
How many years have we been thinking about and MCS haha!

Oh my. Here's the next powerful storm.
#BlackwallTunnel is currently CLOSED northbound due to flooding. Drivers are advised to seek an alternative route.
Eastway Tunnel (A12) is also flooded Southbound. Approach with care.

I've just had my 4th storm in London. Huge cracks of thunder, torrential rain. Looks like another 4 or more are on their way.

Looks like London might get hammered for a few hours. There's a line of lightning running from Southhampton to London

OMG my garden is under at least a inch of water never seen such in my life.
The next one is far more intense by the looks of it.

Two more looking at the radar behind this baby. Hugely active TS.
-
The Thunder we just had in London must have just woken everyone up. Hugely loud booming Thunder. This cell is intense.
-
Huge lightning to the West of me, must be a single cell. Seems to have died a little.
Edit: Still the Jurrasic Park thunder boom.
-
Can anyone else hear the Jurrasic Park style thunder booms in London? It's eery, and to add just seen lightning on a track of 260/255* from Central London.
I think T-StormRex is angry...

Interesting...32 in a 16 year period...an average of 2 per year and in no doubt some years there would have been multiple. Just to put into perspective how rare these beasts are (further to the debate much earlier today)
What debate was that? I just remember them being so frequent. 1997, since then we've had probably 2-3. Maybe 1 of those imported in the early 00s, if that.

This is interesting: the track taken by MCSs in the UK between 1981 and 1997.

1997 - what a year that was. I think if I am honest, that's the last time I remember a proper imported MCS in this country. Harry will remember it well, constant booming thunder, lightning flickering. Rain and this weird feeling about it all. Was scary to say the least. Tonight is nothing compared to those years.

Yeah a great show indeed so far wohoo! Lots of rain, is this the only band coming through or more Convective behind it. I haven't had my mind on the weather lately, it's been pants.
