  1. Very Threatening and dark to my west (In Camden). The heavier shower clouds always seem to take this path through NW London towards Herts/Essex - always seems to be darker over there!
  2. Yeah - just goes on and on doesn't it! I think I can't be bothered moaning about it anymore! Last nights rain really upped the ante in the River Ousel in LB, it was absolutely raging this morning and sadly the Enviro agency has placed a flood warning on it now.
  3. lightning back home in Leighton Buzzard - could be some here in London too soon by the looks!
  4. Nice Calm weather, even though it is a bit dull. No wind, thats the main thing - HATE wet, mild, windy rubbish with a passion!! I'd take this all winter, with say, three good dumps of snow to break up the montomy? that would be OK
  5. Had the hail and wind here in Camden - so how didn't I hear the thunder though - I hope no one's telling porkies!!
  6. I need all I can get after the pathetic summer I had !
  7. Boom! Was just about to say 'Are you sure about thunder and lightning in Central London??' and off it went!!! I look westwards, reckon that was NW london somewhere... Edit - Currently at work, St Pancras area..
  8. As per usual - took one look at the Bedfordshire area and flaked out! Looking at that lot in the Irsh sea - could Dublin be in line for another pounding like a couple of years ago...100 mm wasn't it or something like that? Made the Bournemouth flood (my home town's one) look puny!
  9. Thats all we got last year where I am - smack bang in the middle of it all (you would think...) It all went to the the west first, then the east, then lastly to the south!
  10. Training in Luton tonight. Was gambling on staying dry - not liking how far east this bloody rain is going!
  11. No this is Leighton Buzzard. You don't get storms, regardless of whether you are home or away
  12. Yeah we had a heavy shower -a rare treat for us!! Although I did get soaked...and no thunder!
  13. Just typical for around here - miss all the decent thunderstorms a few weeks ago and then when I'm trying to work in the garden - we get one of the heaviest showers in the country and I get soaked. Nothing thundery tho, shame as they look quite threatening. We always get annoying rain
  14. Nice bit of Mamma or mammatus cloud? over central london. No pics unfortunately.. Think thats right, like balls of cotton wool stuck together..
  15. My own personal storm shield still going...got to work in Camden, missed some lightning as I was in the shower. STILL nothing seen this summer!!!
  16. About the same mate - but considering where I am and the amount of storms in the area, it's incredible really that LB has missed out - all other towns around us have had one. Yesterday was a classic - stream of storms firing towards the north -(MK, Bedford) - then to the south (Luton, Stevenage)..has to be the topography I presume. Funnily enough, three years ago there was a very stormy day nationally, and the first thundery shower of the day in the UK started between us and Aylesbury and hit us.
  17. I won't moan about not even having a heavy shower in the last week - bit too much like tempting fate LOL.
  18. Join the club...either in a line towards MK or then towards Luton. I just presume that Aylesbury Vale just isn't great for t-storm development? Astounding storm avoidance this last week!
  19. ..'Flashes to the left of me, rumbles to the right.. Here I am stuck in the middle with f**k all as usual' If Gerry Rafferty had lived in Leighton Buzzard
  20. I'm still in the club - and i'm smack bang in the middle and its astounding that we have just had the distant flashes from last week! 1. The Notts storms got close then just went north 2. the next morning they all went to the East - missed us again So been visiting in Poole since and just got back a few hours ago. Down in Poole they all went to the IOW! looking at the radar this morning the storms skirted LB and hit MK - then they switched and are all going just to the south! (Wycombe - Luton - Stevenage). Honestly, if you looked out of my SW facing bedroom window, its like the parting of the red sea! It is starting to get a bit silly now...
  21. Down at folks place in Poole, off for a very sweaty run I would have thought. Looks like a line of showers that have just popped up in the channel south of Devon will be coming our way. Or that big Bertha could come more north than NE!! Whatever happens, bound to be better than the damp squib of last week at home!
  22. My big 2 below.... 1. Ibiza 1996 - Non stop lightning and a constant roar of thunder for 3 hours! - all lights out and just bottled beer LOL! And a tornado! (Bit of detail below!!) In spite of the limited period considered, the overall tornado occurrence relative to the area seems to be as high as in Oklahoma or Texas (Grazulis et al., 1993), and much higher than in other Mediterranean countries (Dessens and Snow, 1993). Fortunately, however, there have been no fatalities, but damages can occasionally reach several millions U.S. dollars, as on 12 September 1996 when the outbreak "O" case affected touristic and industrial zones. This episode is also noteworthy because during its final stage on 12 September, a small cyclone with tropical characteristics developed near Ibiza and crossed Mallorca (Gili et al,. 1997). SRH and CAPE for this case (Fig. 9a) are both quite appreciable. 2. Bmth (from BBC site) - remember trying to watch 'return of the Jedi' at the cinema but the hailstones were too loud! On 5 June 1983 a series of violent thunderstorms swept eastwards from Lyme Bay across Weymouth, Poole, and Bournemouth, and on into Hampshire and Sussex. They were accompanied by torrential rain (74mm fell at Winfrith) and heavy hail with stones the size of golf balls (43mm) in the Poole and Bournemouth areas, with one stone measured at 65mm across Been downhill ever since!!
