  1. What a surprise, NOT! In all seriousness though, hopefully its just storms dying out before new ones form.
  2. Met Office warning for thundery showers this evening, I take it thats for the stuff developing from Biscay? Looks like they have extended it South and West as well, though I am just outside of the zone by the looks of it.
  3. Yes and this was the biggest problem today for home grown storms to form. Too much cloud cover! Our last chance now is the mid level convective stuff coming up from Biscay otherwise it will be another total write off.
  4. I really do hope we get something later from the stuff down south west otherwise I think thats it for thundery weather this summer for here. Three days of some thunder in a week in June here certainly isn't what I would call a good Summer for thunder so I hope the Biscay stuff delivers later.
  5. I have a horrible sinking gut feeling that the convection with lightning activity down at Biscay will completely die out by the time it reaches here this evening just based on past events and let downs where lightning was out at sea and then as soon as it reaches land it just magically disappears. Hope I am wrong though as we must get at least some thunder from this.
  6. Not sure if I heard a rumble of thunder last night whilst I was outside but I dought it as I didn't see any lightning. Did see a dim flash later in the night though. Apart from that though we didn't get anything apart from rain. Am hoping that the storms shown above from Ian will give us something this evening otherwise it will be pretty disappointing considering that that would be twice now where we were promised thunder and didn't get any.
  7. Absolutely nothing overnight then, not even one rumble of thunder! Hope this wind for Friday and Saturday makes up for this utter epic failure of a so called thundery spell. Roll on Autumn and Winter for gales and windy weather I say.
  8. A pretty big let down this evening for thundery weather after what the forecasts were showing a few days ago! Basically got to hope now that the low for Friday and Saturday doesn't downgrade either as that would just add to the disappointment.
  9. Heat going to waste far as I am concerned. Hardly any chance for storms on Tuesday for our area and its humid heat which is the worst!
  10. Yes Its clear that the area of strongest winds didn't hit the main cities as we would be seeing a very different picture now. Don't be dissapointed though William, we should all be thankful. I would never wish 200mph sustained winds on anyone and was relieved when I'd seen the cities in Mexico still standing on the morning news.
  11. Surprised to hear of this going on to be honest. Doesn't anyone find it very odd that this has developed so much within the space of a day? By the way, anyone who thinks they can ride out winds of 200-250mph are very uneducated unless they live in an underground storm shelter. Lets not forget that an EF5 tornado has winds of 201-234mph at ground level and look at how much damage they cause.
  12. Yes. I'd imagine the type of storms you witness the most are Windstorms rather than Thunderstorms in your part of the world.
  13. I would have said the same thing back earlier in the year, but as this year has turned out to be such a let down so far it just doesn't even bother me anymore. Its got to the point where every time a risk of thunder has been forecast, I just ignore it or say quietly to myself 'yep well that won't happen!'
  14. If you say it actually bent your pole right down and caused the damage you describe I can see that reading being true to be honest and not false. It was probably some isolated powerful squall or something that other areas were not affected by.
  15. Yeah right, near 60mph gusts which can break branches or uproot trees was just in your books a tad breezy. Come on man!
  16. Suprised there wasn't any damage done in the garden to be honest with the frequent 50mph gusts I had. All of the bins got blown down however, usually its just one or two. There are a few weak trees around the area that have branches broken off or some uprooted, not in the imediate vicinity though.
  17. It got to 63mph last night on the house with quite a few 50mph gusts. Suprised i'm hearing of gusts of only 70mph on exposed areas, would have thought it would have been higher then that considering what I got.
  18. That looks a bit stronger for us here tomorrow compared to yesterday.
  19. Well the winds here this afternoon were the same as over christmas but just for a shorter period of time. Had one gust of 47mph and another of 46mph on the house so a bit higher then I was expecting.
  20. Seems to be a lot of talk of thunderstorms. Are there any coming my way in Wiltshire
  21. If that deep low does come off on Saturday then the storm for tomorrow would seem like nothing in comparison for us in the southwest.
  22. I guess its just a case of wait and see but i'm saying that we here won't expect much now based on the fact that 60mph gusts were forecast in the last storm but we only had a gust of 43mph. It does look bad for the worst areas effected, and maybe because of all of the rain another 40mph+ gust may do more damage here then it otherwise would.
  23. Sorry, that aint going to happen. Just another case of the silly models over doing the lows I'm afraid.
  24. Yes, not really going to be noteable now for us here unless it changes as we had forecast 60mph gusts last Saturday yet we only had a gust of 43mph.
  25. To be honest I would say its the track which is causing the most headaches as I think the intensity is pretty much spot on now. Winds for southern areas similar to what we had over the weekend, but something much more menacing for northern areas.
