    I think so, I believe in (very layman's terms) The -AO is the releasing of the Arctic cold, the -NAO lets it into the UK

    We got lucky at the start of December (Glasgow) had about 4" on Sunday night I think it was? And it stuck around (in muddy clumps) for a week or so.

    Is no-one remotely interested that it looking increasingly likely we might have blocking and snow in just a week's time? Put down the strat thread and pick up the winter thread. The SSW is a given now, lets see what our weather will be.

    When I was in Florida lightning hit a tree only about 20m away from me. It was easily the loudest single short sound I had ever heard.

    Not exactly sure how this winter can be a carbon copy of last winter seeing as how last winter we didnt even get a frost last year here and this year we have had many many frosts and over a week of lying snow already

    I think the problem of late has been that the models have indeed been showing solid trends and consistency, Then throwing it all away 4 days out. Thats not people fault.

    Anyone have any idea as to why the strat is so cold? From what I gather the GFS has pockets tanking down to near -90 over the next few weeks. This is nearly off the chart. Why is it so cold, as in what causes this?

    thats Garbage, it says 90% chance of snow for Braemar tommorrow whereas the Met, models and radar all say there wont be a cloud in the sky.

    Yup completely agree, the T850's are still green to light blue. So will be "chilly". Just wont be "locked down blocked" ala Dec 2010. (Not yet anyway)

    Looks like the MET have conceded that those lows are going to get through. I expect the 12z run to confirm this.

    3 days out? I would have expected better to be honest, especially from the GFS which had this block pegged weeks ago in the very furthest Fl lands.

    whatever the outcome over the next 24hrs say, at least 1 model system will be very red faced.

    I hope you are right but its not as if its just 1 run, the ECM and GFS have had the Atlantic winning out for a number of runs now. P.S. Not doing this to wind anyone up, I pray that the MET stick to their guns!

    I hope and pray mate but the ECM and the GFS to both be quite starkly wrong at such a close time frame would be near unbelievable. No Idea what the MET was playing at this morning. I am not entirely surprised though as I am no fan of the MET.

    06z GFS agreeing with the ECM. I would be amazed if the MET didn't follow suit on its next update
