  1. I'm still hanging on (by my fingernails, lol!) to the fact that nobody can still not say exactly what track the storm will take and if it could waver one way or the other - still hope that by hook or by crook we may see something??!! We all know how things can change suddenly and atm the changes are so sudden and without an exact forecast so we still don't know for sure.... If we don't get snow, we're gonna at least get rain or sleet and my worry is more for how that will freeze on Friday night and into Sat with the cold temps quickly following behind it?! Geez, I'm becoming a bit addicted to this :o !!! H.
  2. Glad its not just me! My Windows need a good clean too - all the better to see the snow with my dear....or not! Oooo the anticipation is so exciting (snow or storm) but also a little scary and doin my head in slightly! Yamkin, hope you're right! H.
  3. Isn't it so annoying! Unless there any fish in the sea who are into their weather systems?!! Apart from Michael Fish, lol! Sorry, couldn't resist that one! H.
  4. Hey Yamkin, where did u hear about snow on Fri for us?! Amanzi - your just down the road from me! I've been outside most of the day and its been soooo much colder than i thought it wud b today - temp in car at 3.30pm was only 3c so was really wondering if this band of rain could be a bit wintry too? Seems such a shame that the next few days/wkend is gonna b so cold but no ppn to give us snow! Ggrrr! Frustrated! H.
  5. Wishing that radar was showing how much white stuff was falling - sorry, I sulk, should be glad of the water down here! Don't understand why Meto issuing severe weather warning of snow for SE but no snow on actual forecast?! H.
  6. What does it mean when a thread goes white instead of blue? The London & SE thread seems to have stopped?! Still chilly here too! H.
  7. I have to say that I've found the chopping n changing of models and some peoples reactions to them sooooo confusing!!! The models say something for a couple of days and it's hyped right up and gets me dusting off my hat/scarf - dare I say snowboots :o - all for it to then fall flat when I log on the next morning for the next (not so exciting!) update!!! I now know to take it all with a pinch (or cupfull!) of salt and wait until the patterns are consistant, across all models and not more than about 3/4 days in advance - but boy did I go through some major disappointments before I learnt that one  !! As I said, still so much to learn but it's enjoyable!! I'm nowhere near expecting a white christmas down here but would like a sunny/frosty start then I need a bit of cloud cover so it gets all dull outside, cosy inside and my table candles glow nicely - too much sun and you can't see them, lol!! Jo - I remember the turtle sandpits!! I remember the 87 storm and remember seeing whole sheds lifted up and displaced - and then funnily enough, a guy who'd put a bucket over a hole in his flat roof, woke up to find the bucket hadn't moved??!!! :o H.
  8. Hi fellow southerners!! So glad to have found this thread after finding NW a few mths ago (as a complete and utter novice!!) and reading so much good winter news for the North - ggrrr, lol!! Just a bit about me - I love just SEASONAL weather - as we're supposed to have it and what keeps life interesting every 3mths, ha!! So a lovely hot Summer, a warm - crisp Autumn, a lovely cold n snowy Winter, followed by a nice warm/showery spring!! I'm guessing that for the best part of the year (other than the winter months where everyone seems to want snow!) we're probably the luckiest corner of the UK with our above ave temps and dryness (although too dry presently!) but we just have to hope that for Dec-Feb, somewhere along the line, something goes in our favour and we end up with a nice easterly bringing us some snowy experiences here and there - or if not, for a sustained period!! I have always loved the weather but it was only by stumbling on this forum that I've learnt quite a bit - however still have LOADS to learn and am still often reading between the abbreviations/long scientific words  to try to get an idea of what might be coming up!!! Anyway, here's hoping that somewhere along the line we get some of the white stuff... in the mean time, guess we should be looking out for the gales this week - MO currently downgraded the gales for Mon/Tues IMBY (Epsom, Surrey) so lets see what they say about the end of the week in the next couple of days.... Anyway, nice chatting with you all - also spotting there seems to be more women here??!! I thought I was on me own a bit in the scientific world of men :winky: H.
  9. Omg with my addiction, a crashing server could just about tip me over the edge, lol! I am sure we will def get some snow down here at some point, I feel it in my bones, even if its just a big one off event it will have to do - enough to use my new snow boots and take the kids out on the sledge! H x
  10. alijoe - I feel your pain and will see u at W.A, lol! GSL - thank you for kindly explaining that....so now all models are kind of saying not cold by Fri that's pretty much a given - as in there is less chance of checking this over breakie and seeing a whole new set of promises, lol?! Icequeen - I've tried to stay off but with a smartphone in my hand the addiction is too strong and I am too weak! I really have become my username, lol! H x
  11. Please excuse my naiveness as I know little about the weather but have been reading this forum for a few mths now and just a bit confused.... How long would models need to be saying the same thing before its regarded a trend and therefore more of a reality? I would dearly love cold/snow (Epsom so litttle chance!) but the models were saying cold for a few days and now after just one day of "not so cold" everyone now thinks that is definitely what will happen/get all depressed/sad emoticons etc (lol) and yet the models may say different again tomorrow/next day then everyone's excited again??!! Been so wound up and disappointed so many times from this thread - I tell myself I'm just gonna check in once a week but I'm annoyingly addicted a bit now, lol! Please explain somebody and remember I'm a complete novice so please don't shoot me down, nice explanations only please! H x
  12. I think the problem these days would be the fact that we're a lot less "local" - ie, food doesn't come from local farmers, butchers etc, people travel long distances to work (and some schools), whether by car/train, lots of people travel abroad for Xmas or skiing trips and we're so far removed from living basic, simple lives now that we'd struggle big time....don't think I would though, I'd love the simplistic way of life and how communities tend to pull together in times of need....but that's just simple me! Would just like to add I know zilch about weather but have an avid interest and since finding these forums a couple of mths back I've become a bit obsessed, lol! Also learnt a little bit too, amazing stuff! H x
