  1. Cold spell ? What cold spell ?

Beautifully mild here today and quite sunny, almost like late April or early May.

I just checked wunderground for your location today, and it says maxima of 10c? That's hardly springlike, and temperatures like that in late April / early May would be rather cooler than average, especially under clear skies.

  2. I would like some snowy weather throughout March until early April, followed by continental conditions until early May with clear, frosty nights and sunny, warm days. Finally, as days get increasingly longer in the run up to June, increasingly warmer days occur perhaps becoming hot, with thunderstorms developing in late May. :D

  3. Winter 2011/12 R.I.P

Another carrot being dangled before our eyes, as in heights over Greenland, are now being delayed somewhat going off this mornings output. I still believe that by the time heights become favourable, we'll be entering the latter stages of February. Who cares by then, the facts speak for themselves, how many cold spells have there been at the latter end of February, that have delivered the goods?

1986? Sub freezing days and snowfall in the last third of the month.

In recent years 2004 and 2005 had decent cold spells at the end of Feb/start of March and 2006 had a great March.

  4. Best I can remember here in Leicester too. It's pretty unusual for leicester/notts to fair as well as other areas in the midlands. I measured 7cm about an hour before it stopped, wouldn't be surprised if we had 8 or 9cm in total.

Just really light particles of ice falling now. Definitely ice as it bounces off my hand when i'm outside. Very slight that on though, temps are just about freezing. Can here one or two drips once in a while.

Very happy overall :) Well done MetO for predicting the coverage and snow amounts so accurately.

I live a few miles to the west of Leicester, but my village is on a hill so it generally does good.

  5. I've measured a snow depth of 8cm with 11cm drifts. I live 9 miles west of Leicester and got stuck for two hours in the city in the snow, with the cars struggling with momentum. Me and my family originally decided to go after some hesitation because it was turning sleety, but soon after we got there it turned very heavy indeed. Non-stop snow since 2.30pm only becoming lighter snow.

I've certainly got more than I originally thought.

  6. Am I correct in thinking this front has moved through slightly earlier than predicted? Not far from my location now and was only expecting it to reach here around 9pm...

Well I am a few miles to the west of Leicester and it arrived at 2.30pm for me, but only light snow then but it's not stopped since. From 3-3.30 it got heavier and hasn't moderated since.

    I wasn't expecting any until around 6pm
