  1. Sorry to be a pain but it would really be helpful for learners such as me if all posters included some comment when posting charts, just to give us some idea of why they are posting it and guide us in the right direction - a couple of words would be sufficient...
  2. Hopefully the 'Shannon entropy' will have diminished somewhat after tonight - would love to hear what Ian F has to say - but am hoping he is far too busy working on severe weather warnings to post on here...
  3. Most of those sites only update every six hours or so and will be using old data.
  4. Just wanted to thank all the posters in here for a fantastic evening's model watching - whatever happens in reality, it's been a blast - from tears, through hysteria, to euphoria - Steve Murr is happy again - Ian Brown (of all people!) gave me the best laugh I've had all week and proves he is a top bloke after all - couldn't get much better really!
  5. At this stage it looks as if the Meto's comparison with 8 December 1990 might well be close to the mark - at least over the weekend, at least for some of us...
  6. I had this here earlier and got quite excited... Sadly I then worked out that it was little frost particles dislodging themselves from tree branches and telephone wires...
  7. Don't know that I would describe this winter's model-watching so far as 'exciting' - unless you find having your fingernails pulled out one by one 'exciting'...It is compulsive though!
  8. I was thinking that the other day but didn't want to mention it...
  9. Well said - personally I've thought all along that early-mid January gives us a more realistic shot at cold, just because that timeframe fits in better with what the background signals are telling us. The models are nothing like as discouraging as this time last year.
  10. I really don't think you can blame GP for this debacle! In any case, didn't his winter forecast say that January would be the month for cold... I haven't checked, but I'm pretty sure he didn't make any reference to a pre-Christmas easterly... But do correct me if I'm wrong.
  11. There is just so much promise in the situation right now - some great posts from people who know what they are talking about - as a newbie, can I implore those who don't know what they are talking about to think twice before posting? Or to go take a look at the Netweather guides and the Strat thread - which might help give them some perspective. Sorry to sound so grumpy and to go O/T, but I am starting to despair!
  12. Really, is that what BBC Southeast said - I missed it - whoopdedo! I have been using the ignore button but there are more of them coming all the time... can't keep up...
  13. It's all looking fantastically promising for us - have even broken out the Christmas CD... I don't mind having to wait for a week, or a couple of weeks, as long as we get there in the end. And best of all, this thread is a troll-free zone! Really, some of the comments on the Model thread beggar belief.
  14. For those of you hiding behind the sofa, apparently the GFS 18z is another stellar run tonight... I think I woke up this morning in a parallel universe...
  15. 1017 people over in the Model thread - is that some sort of record?
  16. Massive snow here now in Tunny!!! And it's settling!!! I have a feeling this is the taste of things to come.... judging by the excitement in the Model thread...
  17. Snowing in Tunbridge Wells now! Very small flakes but still lovely to see - sounds like some of you have been really lucky!
  18. Couldn't agree more MK - anything we get before Christmas is a major bonus! Admittedly I'm a glass-half-full type person but I do think some people have to rein in their expectations somewhat. It will come eventually - and what better way of cheering up a miserable January than a big snowfall?
  19. GP's latest thoughts in the MOD thread make for interesting reading - he is saying (and has said all along) that the most prolonged cold is going to come a little later, in January. Think we all have to be patient for a bit longer - anything cold in December is a bonus, anything white from the sky even more so - as long as we get at least one big dumping in January, I for one will be very happy!
  20. Seems good to me and I have to say none of those options are too disastrous. The posting today has (on the whole) been really helpful and constructive - wouldn't want to go through this sort of stress too often but it's been a valuable experience - thanks all!
  21. I would doubt there are many non experienced members (myself included) who hang on TMW's every word...We have been here before, on a number of occasions, and clearly there is something about this situation that the models are struggling with. Each run is just one possible solution to the problem, not the definitive answer at this stage - I'm trying to remember that whenever someone posts that 'winter is over' - or the reverse.
