  1. Very pleasent Spring day here in inland Suffolk.

Clear and sunny skies throughout the morning then some fair weather cloud bubbled up after lunch to leave a cloudier cooler feeling afternoon, although still nice.

Fresh evening though with a light to moderate breeze.

  2. its got to be the March 05 event, heavy snow from 8am, by 12pm we were sent home from school. We had three days off and the army was called into kent as some villages were entirely cut off.

Yes Rob, I remember that event quite well. Remarkably here in southwest Suffolk we only accumulated a dusting of snow, yet 65 miles to my south, southeast you guys were getting pasted with prolonged heavy snowfall. The precipitation bearly moved that morning, certainly was a great fall there in Kent.

  3. It has to be the January '04 event. Enjoyed the 3 hour blizzard with thunder and lightning. A good 5 inches fell that evening and I nearly didn't make it home.

The '08 Easter snowfall comes a very close second with 4 inches falling that morning. I remember observing the radar and watching the precipitation rotate around my location with the prolonged snowfall over me. Areas to my south, east, north and west (beyond 15 miles) accumulated no more than 2 inches.

Here's a picture from that morning

  4. Nothing exceptional down here in Suffolk, infact almost very disappointing with regards to snowfall. :D

Had much better falls over recent years if I was to be really honest. Personally IMHO this in no way compares to 1991 and beyond. They really were the days when we had to dig our way out the front door with a serving spoon :D

Here's hoping for the Azores High to ridge in over the coming few weeks and bring some warm and sunny weather as we approach mid-March 17 -20C :D

  5. funny how the precipitation stops just when its probably cold enough to snow. typical

Quite agree danm. The precipitation is easing in intensity now judging by the latest radar images. Still moderate here though and blowing around in the strong northerly wind.

Hoping the back egde re-invigorates as it's sweeps though East Anglia and Kent...............MetO predict heavy snow in SW Suffolk at 06:00 ~ maybe a few hours of this as we're only just past 3am :(

All about Nowcasting over the next couple of hours......

  6. Hi,

Just to report that there is heavy snow here.

Thanks for the updates guys. The snowfall is so very close to myself now, all within a 35 minute drive................

Should become rather interesting for our part of the world from midnight as the cold air starts to dig in from the north. I suspect TEITS down to Luton would be ideal locations for blizzards 00:00 - 06:00 (2 - 6 inches).

Have recently been out for a drive and the river Stour that runs through Haverhill is the highest it's been for years!! I suspect Steeple Bumpstead (Small village 2 miles west of Haverhill) is under water ~ they always cop flooding and I suspect tonight will be NO exception with the water flowing off the fields.

  7. Heavy rain from 4pm through to 7pm with lots of local roads now flooding, especially out towards Balsham (Inbetween Haverhill and the M11). Then turned to sleet before heavy snowfall. It has now eased after some big flakes, almost on par with last nights cascading snowslabs. :D

Looking forward to a 'potentially' very snowy early hours across west Suffolk................

  8. I must say tomorrow evening is looking extremely eventful for many in the south................

The winds look quite a feature on the western flank as the low exits off to our east. Some strong gales across southern and eastern England tuesday am. Gusts in the region of 65mph likely IMO.

  9. Well done Seasons, your optimism of the last few days has certainly repaid you there. Love them big fat flakes best of all! :D

Thanks mate :) Certainly were the biggest, fluffiest flakes I've seen for years.

Not surprising with those bright echoes TEITS, if only the rest of Suffolks snow would fall here. Seasons, how long was it raining before it turned for you?

It was raining/drizzling for an hour before the snow set in. Incredible though to think only 17 miles south of here (Braintree) it's been raining hard. Even Cambridge hasn't seen much snow :) Maybe temperature's are a little higher there being Urban and all that :)

  10. Seasons, would suggest that as the heavier ppn gets nearer and nearer it will turn increasingly to snow until the really heavy stuff should be a white-out for you :D and then me..

Ventured outside...light snizzle drizzle here....very very fine bits of snow coming down...amongst a little bit of light drizzle...weird. Want the heavier stuff now...haha

'I luv snow' I agree with this mate. I'm going to hop off the fence a make a prediction for us. :p

The heavy precipitation is knocking on my door now judging by the latest radar image - I suspect a good hour (probably nearer 2 hours) of heavy snow ~ this then moving east towards Ipswich. Temperature's to the west of me are a fair bit lower, so I guess within the snowband evaporative cooling is taking place bringing the snowline down to lower ground. DP's are below here, so all bodes well :D

  11. Well from what I had seen further west suggested we were just north enough to be on the right side of marginal. Certainly north suffolk and norfolk will see snow from this, like cambridgeshire already is...

If its light rain in Haverhill then we are the same latitude, that doesnt sound good HOWEVER temps continue to fall and we still have low dewpoints, I would have rated us a very good chance of snow, had there not been that report. Still places further west and south than Haverhill have reported snow, so my guess is maybe its because this ppn is still light. When the heavier stuff moves here, as it is continuing to do so, Im hoping that report turns to light snow, then heavy snow.

Eyes on radar and reports it seems :D

Some very heavy echoes on radar and all heading for us here....!

Started off as light rain, although we now have some big fat snowflakes mixed in :D

I stand corrected then, bush fires as well :db:

We just have rain again now!

    :D

  12. The very light snow flurries we had here for a time have now stopped.

The MetO now appear to have warnings out for just about every type of weather event its possible to get apart from bush fires. We have wind, rain, snow, flooding and even icy roads progged for the SE over the next 48hrs or so, surely they become meaningless in the end?

    They have now!!! :drunk:
