If you look at the description of the matrix that is issued by the MO it's based on impact rather than over 'x' amount warrants such and such a warning. Relatively speaking still a way to go till specifics are finalised

Met office wind map now showing maxes of just 30 mph south east, as I expected.
Now where has that interesting little feature for saturday gone....
Eh? It is showing 70+ along the south coast and 60+ well inland
-
Thanks, nice to hear of poss 58 mph gusts.
I was hoping for a severe storm but I suppose its good news for less damage and disruption
Lol thanks but not thanks, but can almost understand your point of view!
-
Gusts to 50kts = 58mph so they are deffo not going with anything as intense as the GFS evolution. Wonder if the GFS will downgrade in coming days? We shall see...
Indeed Liam, Fax will be interesting tonight, he has also edited his post to read "W/NW/SW/S England"

mickeyb44 don't put your camera away just yet
Exeter have modified GM to ensemble consensus (further north), albeit strongest winds remain as previous signal (W/NW/SW/S England; gusts widely to 50kts; stronger in exposure of course but not akin to recent Scottish storm).
From Fergie over on MOD thread

Well at least we are inside Fax Chart range now, so will be good to see what Exeter make of it.

Flicked through the charts and I picked the strongest wind gust chart shown for Wed/Thurs.
Guess it depends on location, on the South Coast it's showing higher gusts midnight and 0300, but still a few days out and many changes to come no doubt.

Daniel if you are going to quote someone it is polite to give credit to that person

In response to the comments about a rain warning for the south this morning, not often I participate in criticising the MO but judging by the flooded roads round here and the fact that the main train line up to London from this part of the south coast is flooded then maybe a yellow warning was warranted for this morning.

Hi Jules that could be right, I can see a notification at 00:49 on my phone but can't tell if it was for the wind now, will assume it was then.
Still quite late notice, assume the wind strength did mean the low deepened a little more than first thought. It certainly got gusty.
Not a dig at METO, it's good to see 24x7 coverage.
Indeed nice to dispel a myth that Met O finishes work at 5pm which one poster on here commented a few years back!
-
If anyone doubts METO working 24 hours a day. I notice the wind yellow be aware notification was timed at about 4am.
That said surprised this wasn't issued earlier. Perhaps the risk become more apparent after data run after midnight.
I got notification from Met that it came out at 00.40, maybe they updated it at 4am

yeah alot, and the lighning is still going, distant, cant hear any thunder but its atleast 1 flash every 4 seconds... very strange?????
Had a look can't see any flashes from here

Wind out there sounds mental. Woken me up, coming from more West than the usual South West where we have shelter from the downs. Not looking forward to later when it increases as severe wind is my least favourite weather.

Hello again peeps. Back again from a Summer hibernation.
So.....who fancies some Snow between Xmas & New Year?
Baby steps going in the right direction at the moment....
Blimey things must be looking up if Shrimper has come out of hibernation

Wise words Wiven. I am keeping an eye on this as throughout today Met Office raw data has been slightly increasing gusts down here on coast. Current max gust is 63mph but we do get some shelter from the Downs. My advice to everyone keep an eye on this so as to be aware but still time for changes.

Actually the default depth is 1.1km.

The GPS transmitter was getting close to being buried under snow so it was dug out and re-set, expect GPS readings to be a bit wild until it settles.
