  1. Happy new year folks -  back to work now and so have better access to the forums....don't ask.

Looking good for some dry weather now which is such a blessed relief!!! Dartmoor is generally a bog but its nearly as sodden as i can ever remember it!

A quick look back to 2023 the average temperature for the year in my location was 11.2c on a par with 2022.

December 2023 averaged at 7.9c the warmest December in the 5 years I started recording weather observations.

I should think this months average temperature will be a lot lower looking at the charts!

    Overnight low here was 3c

    Cheers all

My apologies if I seem slightly railways obsessed but as someone who lives in the south-west without a car I’m acutely conscious of how important these arterial lines are.

So the situation with the Salisbury to Exeter line doesn’t look great to me. It’s a landslip above Crewkerne Tunnel. They’re saying overnight that the line will be closed until at least Monday but to my amateurish eye I could see this taking several weeks to sort out in a way which is truly declared safe?

Of course, further heavy rain this week isn’t exactly going to help matters.

South Western Railway said the line from Salisbury to Exeter would be closed until Monday, December 11 as heavy rain over the weekend led to…

Fear not on the railway front! I do drive but am utterly baffled by the railway infrastructure that was hastily lost in the 60's and what an amazing integrated transport network we could of had if foresight was in operation.  Pivoting back to the weather - just look at dawlish a brisk south easterly these days closes the railway on the wall, it wouldn't be a problem if the north route was still there!

  4. Interesting developments for Monday for down here.

Met office going for snow on the higher moor and top temperature for my location at 4c.

Where as BBC/meteogroup going for 7c and rain.

Obviously how the incoming low pressure interacts with the cold block is still subject to change

Today the met office got it right temperature wise, their suggestion of 4c max was spot on
