Been an interesting 12 hours here just 2 miles as the badger flies from the S coast of Cornwall.
We started with rain at 11pm yesterday evening when the temp was 4c, it was still raining at 4am with a temp of 0c, but by but 7am it had turned to wet snow with a temp of 2c.
As the snow increased in intensity the temp dropped off to 0c again by 9am and that’s where it remained until the snow petered out at 11am.
The ground was warm and very wet prior to the snow arriving, so I was very surprised to firstly see it stick and then build up to 4cm’s.
A real shock for the birds around here, many of whom were tempted into mating again in early Autumn…their chicks look most confused by it all.
This is why i find it amusing that some folk insist that the ground must be dry and be frozen for a week before snow arrives for it to stick, if the intensity is there and the DP is low enough snow should stick to most things other than a salt truck

Into work and sleety ice rain on the face. Lovely.
Checked the home weather station just at 0.0c with a DP of -1.5c.
Snow has stopped.
Flicking back to the weather apps - I'd say MO were wide of the mark, BBC spot on, XCW weather over egged the snow

Snowing well now. Strong breeze making it feel utterly freezing out. Snow is small grains but its still dingy here has the feel of a proper winter day....in autumn.
Currently -0.3c
Just seen photos of snow on the ground in Yealmpton which is in the south hams

I think it's quite a good warning that the Met Office have issued. I'm not sure many people expect much from it, but there's definitely a chance that the models don't even have a good grasp even at this short range and that we could see a little snow more widely across SW England (given recent slight northerly adjustments).
The 06z ECM has pepped up the preciptation a bit. The main core of the system still sits in the channel if it encroaches more then things could happen.

Yellow warning for snow and ice now for the south west just issued
Spells of snow may develop over hills, especially parts of Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor, Blackdown Hills and Exmoor during the early hours of Thursday before petering out later in the day. The highest parts of Dartmoor and perhaps Bodmin Moor may see 5-10cm of snow with some drifting in strong easterly winds. Elsewhere, accumulations are likely to be relatively small, perhaps 1-3cm at most, and mainly in areas inland and above 100-200m. In addition to this, icy patches may also develop on untreated surfaces.
After the video yesterday saying it was looking unlikely!

GFS still banging the drum for some sort of snow fall in the south west tomorrow. Other models are not so keen.

The latest run from GFS still proclaiming the chance of snow in the south west tomorrow.
Other models don't agree so probably a case of looking out the window and see what happens

Very cloudy yesterday, 8c max mid afternoon.
Low of 2.9c at 1am this morning.
Now 4.3c, no frost.A good watch is the Met office deep dive on snow yesterday.
Really good focus at times on our region with the current battle;Cracking video. These deep dives are really interesting.
The case for snow on Thursday has somewhat diminished based on that!
A low of 1.2c now climbing steadily, currently 3.2c
Looking like the really cold weather will effect my locale for just 3 days now

Could quite easily wake up to something much better long term by the morning, but we now have 7 days of nice cold air to enjoy regardless!! Sunday is something to chase regarding wider U.K. snow, and those in the east could get lucky!!
oh and guess what, it’s still November ️️
Not withstanding chance of snow for higher ground in the southwest on Thursday

Had an eye on the ppn in the channel most the day and it appears to making subtle shifts in a north westerly direction. I'm no forecaster so not sure if its due to make to landfall later but would tie in with some forecasts for later.
Notice large amounts of Cornwall and west devon are currently looking clear. PPN has been butting against dartmoor from the east but the high ground has taken all the energy out of it.
