Morning thought I'd pop in to see the lie of the land. Up to Wednesday I was hopeful that our region could be in with some snow action next week but the weather gods are hinting that low will traverse the M4 leaving most of us on the wrong side. Still can change but....
Anyhow what will be will be chance of wintery stuff via showers on Tuesday Wednesday. If anything my march monthly temperature average will take a battering. 8.1c last year!

Can anybody please help me understand what it is we need for it to snow in West Cornwall?
West Cornwall got snow in mid to late january this year. North by North West flow is your best bet Channel lows to risky unless you on higher ground.

top temperature today 4.3c think from here on in the daily temperatures will continue to nudge up. Sorry for those who did not see any snow this time round. But this winter so far we've had and are having 2 cold spells with snow fall and its not even February yet. In both spells there were huge near misses akin to experiencing a 1978 snow storm. Its a better season than i expected. Hopefully back for a third cold spell before spring hits

heavy hail currently - looks like we're in a streamer coming off the north coast of devon (if only this was happening at night!)

Well according to the radar something should be falling from the sky but all I can see is stars
On closer inspection it has just slipped to the south of here by less than a mile
Typical

Non event then as thought
Yeah I concur. Over on twitter Fergie saying alot will be soaked up by the welsh hills. For those in devon and cornwall if you get under a shower it will be decent but many will go without. Tough to forecast and hard on the warnings, 10% of the pop might get effected and be worthy of the warning with the other 90% wondering what the fuss is about

Thank you! Didn't expect this snowfall all things considered.
A bit of a bonus considering the little snowfall we had back in December.
Yes it is rather wondrous when it comes from nowhere so to speak. Weather from the North West is the key for cornish snow!

Some snow photos around my area, altitude makes a big difference, living outside of St Austell we got some snowfall, near the coast there's barely anything if at all.
Note that I'm about 200m give or take above sea level I think.
I can imagine that Penwithick, Steanlees and so on got snowfall as well.
I haven't exactly measured but in my area, I would say it varies from a dusting to maybe 2-3cm?
I post some videos of the snow falling around last night later on
Really chuffed for you. Great photos! Will make folk in the south east thread sick

UK weather warnings

Another chance of snow fall for devon and cornwall tonight, instead of snow linked to a low pressure system which did cornwall proud last night it would be more in the vein of showers. Obviously hit and miss in nature and might not even turn up at all. Differing weather models suggest differing outcomes.
UKMO - yes
GFS - yes
GEM - No
ICON - No
Aperge -yes
Arome -no
ECM - yes (north coast only)
Your best bet is look at the radar and then stick your head out the window
But what last night events suggest is that Cornwall's best chance of snow is with a frigid polar maritime set up.

Nope! The system did not really get to us, the radar suggested something was falling as snow but it evaporated before it hit the deck. Hopeful to see a flake tonight

So then. Weather warning for snow in Cornwall! The weather front has not all headed to the channel. Appears to be pivoting. Surprise in the morning awaiting!

Signal for snow for southern dartmoor has waned a little with a slight pep up potentially for Plymouth. Any straggling bit of the weather system potentially just brushing the coast rather than anywhere inland.

Met office text under forecast says bands of snow maybe moving east tonight but I just cannot see it?
Tonight:
A mostly dry evening, but wintry showers in Cornwall with these moving east overnight. Longer periods of sleet and snow may develop in places, perhaps giving some slight accumulations. Cold. Minimum temperature -2 °C.
Tuesday:
Wintry showers or longer spells of rain, sleet and snow clearing during the morning. Turning drier and brighter by the afternoon. Feeling cold, especially in the breeze. Maximum temperature 5 °C.
Not that i should trust an app but the met office app for my location supports that statement. But yep what do they see that no one else does?
