Eyes down for the last GFS of the year- lets hope its been on the mulled wine
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Happy New Year Steve and indeed all Net Weather members. Some how I can't see these models changing any time soon, we just seem stuck with cool, wet & at times windy weather. I think we've been spoilt over the last 3 or 4 winters. I hope I'm wrong and that we have a belting last two thirds of winter 2013/14.

What wind gusts would that cause if it were to come off?
-
Very Stormy here now.
-
Wind starting to get nasty here now. Has it arrived early?

Just found this on twitter
Bin it. Too far south, not going to happen.

We are about to get absolutely hammered here, and as for Christmas Eve I don't even want to go there at the moment!

-1C with a Dew point of -1.8C here and it's just rained what a joke!

That wasn't the main one that's due to hit later tonight/early hours
Do you mean there is a second batch of strong winds coming overnight? Because looking at the latest radar there isn't much more rain to come through.

3 Power cuts here in 5 minutes! I wouldn't mind the winds have died down quite a bit compared to what it was like a couple hours ago.

Incredible squall just gone through here, torrential for about two minutes with squally winds. Has calmed down now, finally some exciting weather to talk about!

She's bloody hopeless!

I don't envisage anything too stormy this evening especially the more southern parts of the region, 50-60mph gust max I reckon.

just laughed my head off when I read a Tweet in response to a Daily Express Tweet about this Winter being the worst in living memory, I've pasted both Tweets below enjoy!
SHOCK CHRISTMAS WEATHER WARNING: Worst winter storm in HISTORY to hit Britain within weeks: http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/448115/Christmas-weather-forecast-Winter-storms-warning-as-snow-gales-and-floods-threaten-UK …
@Daily_Express Even we wouldn't dare print bo**ocks like that

Final frames of the 18z GFS look a tad more encouraging in my opinion, FI I know but we shall see. I expect changes in the model runs next week regarding the Christmas period.

Wind really picking up here.

Newbie here, but GFS 18z seems to bring forward the northerly even compared with ECM, and Thursday looks bitter now, as well as Friday. Am I right?
Yes indeed you are correct.

Don't know why you're dragging me into it and stating I'm saying what people want to hear? I've never given an analysis based on 'what people want to hear'? The UKMO 144 hrs chart is not bad....look at the NH plot and tell me that cold is not possible down the line from that. If you can tell me that is 100% a sinker then you're deluding yourself and misguiding the newer members on here who may not be as clued up (and more impressionable) as some experienced posters are.
Well said CC.

I can understand why those along NE facing coasts, NW Facing coasts and Scotland are getting excited about the snow prospects for 6-9 days time, but I struggle to see why anyone else other than those who live on elevated areas in lets say N .Wales and Midlands ...are getting excited.
I have not really seen a single run that would give the VAST majority of us anything decent in terms of snowfall.
It's well known that a direct northerly or NNW feed creates a wish bone effect and snow showers simply run along the West and East coasts and tend not to penetrate very far inland.
Although it's a slightly IMBY I'm still looking into Mid December and hoping something shows up that would provide a decent spell of cold weather that would deliver most of us snow and not just the usual places that always get it regardless of what direction it comes in (I.E Scotland , the NE and NW Facing coasts).
Here's a good example shown by Netweather's Own charts ..
I don't understand why so many people seem to think that somehow on the day itself things will somehow change and (for example) someone living in the South East gets disappointed; when they don't get any snowfall.
feel free to delete this post it's it's not model related enough, It's just that every year people fall into the same trap, get their hopes up and then feel let down when they don't get snow.
80% of us will not see snow falling from the sky by next Monday from this sort of set up
Maybe where you live you won't see any snow but for where I live (North West England), Scotland & Northern Ireland this is the perfect setup for snow, I for one can't wait.

In all fairness it still looks very active. It took it's time!

ISON has appeared from behind the sun and it seems to be brightening again. Interesting.
Link?

Things could start looking interesting from the 5th of December if tonight's GFS & ECM verify, 10 days though is a mile off. If it's still there in 3 days I will have more confidence of a cold spell of Weather affecting us.

Could be the last chance to get some low temps below freezing tonight, could see a -5 somewhere. Looks like becoming milder midweek on wards.
