Well I'm now in OH - TWC talking about CAPE around the 2000-2500 mark for tonight and tomorrow across the N/NE and dewpoints close to 70.
Wowsa.

-10 LI of the scale cape...
May I ask what the "lifting index" determines?

A couple of friends are flying into CVG Airport late tonight - one of which is quite a nervous flyer! Could be quite a bumpy ride looking at the forecast!
-
I don't think you will get much idea this far in advance DtM
Now today
I mean generally - i.e. mid-late May into June. Looking at the long long range forecast, I see "strong T-storms" have been forecasted for the summer.
-
I'm heading to Ohio in a couple of weeks - what's the "prospects of play" up that way, usually this time of year. Chances of seeing something severe?

I've got a funny gut feeling that cold and snow will come and that tomorrow's charts will get this forum buzzing.
Its always the way in the winter - a rollercoaster ride!
A trend over the last couple of years that 5-6 days out there is a big ramp to extreme weather. Gradually over the next couple of days there are downgrades, which then get upgraded again around 48 hours out.
-
Can't believe it - its only week 2 of 2014 and I'm already out of the NSC! Takes me normally 30 weeks to do so!
-
TORRO warned earlier today about tornadic weather. Wouldnt be surprised if something is spawned off in the next couple of hrs.
Extremely dangerous at the moment here. Do not go outside.
-
Incredible wind speeds here at the moment. Never seen anything like it.

Dirk? wierd name for a storm. Why not call her Saint Nicholas?
From the reliable Wikipedia, so could be totally wrong!
-
Don't know if its been mentioned elsewhere - this storm is known as Cyclone 'Dirk'.
-
Seems to have calmed down a tad here in the last hour. Seems as if the peak of the gusts for my area with top out around midnight tonight and the early hours.
925mb in Stornoway.
Katrina - 902mb.

Quite a few flights being diverted, one recently from Bristol to Brum - all that extra hassle for passengers and crew, ground staff etc and a plane miles away from its potential next outbound flight! Nightmare for some travellers today..
Think there will be a fair few 'rescue' flights scheduled on Xmas Day to pick up stranded passengers diverted or cancelled because of this storm.
-
Wind starting to pick up here now.
-
50mb drop in 24 hours.
-
In all seriousness, if those charts firm up over the coming days for Christmas Day, there will be a lot of people not getting home for Christmas. Flights/trains cancelled again.

That model has gone haywire! What sort of conditions, would it be like?!
-
Supposedly the temperature got up to 43C at the WACA, Perth today.
I bet those Barmies were thankful for the Doctor in the afternoon.
-
I really have to question the 'intelligence' of some folk. Whilst the emergency services are risking their own lives evacuating areas and taking people to safety, some muppets are going in the opposite direction and putting themselves and everyone else in danger.
Good evening storm chasers!!

I notice the warnings haven't gone above yellow - surely, considering this storm was far worse than St Jude, it merits a far higher level of warning?

Is there anything remotely wintery in the foreseeable future for us Southerners? At least the sun came out this afternoon rather than the "holding pattern" the weather seemed to be, in recent days.
-
Had a look at the models periodically throughout the weekend - absolutely nothing is set in stone. The models have been flipping back and forth, no one can say with any modicum of confidence what is going to happen in 100+ hours time.
If I had to make a prediction, I'd say there is a low chance of wintry showers for the Home Counties.

For anyone watching the cricket at the moment, here's the weather radar. Look at that cell just balloon dew west of Brisbane!

My area has just had a severe thunderstorm warning expire - the loud beeps have just ended. Incredible skies here in Fayette Co, OH; don't think I've ever seen a sky so dark at 6pm.
Scratch that - another warning enforced.
