Blimey, you can't say that those isobars being that close is normal!
As has been mentioned a number of times, its way too early to be 'searching for cold'. Yes, it has been unseasonably warm, but October is often the "holding pattern" for weather ahead. It can change very quickly.

100 homes damaged in Hayling Island due to tornado moving across the Island, my brother lives on the south side close to Portsmouth sound but is currently up in the Lake District.
Probably just a microburst.
-
Been very dark here for the last hour or so, but only light showers so far. Wind is picking up.
-
Thunder just started here - departing aircraft going straight into the storm; could be quite bumpy up there!

I'll have some of what the Express is drinking!

No your thinking of October 2010 when it almost hit 30c earlier in October
Blimey was it really that long ago!
-
Slightly off topic, but its way too early to be looking at trends going forward to winter isn't it?
Didn't the temperature this time last year get up to around the 30C mark? And look what happened last winter; albeit belatedly.

It has the capacity to turn severe
How do you define a 'severe' thunderstorm rather than a normal storm?
-
Next week I could be going down to Central America (I know this is a NA thread, but it doesn't justify an individual thread)...
The UV index is 13 - THIRTEEN! The max in the UK is 8 (and that's rare) and nowhere in Europe gets above 11, which is classed as extreme!

The Beeb still very much ramping up the potential for tomorrow morning onwards. Certainly very bullish in regards to intensity.
-
So much for almost unbroken sunshine all day! Lights are on at the Oval for goodness sake!
-
No CAPE, LI almost neutral. Not sure where Auntie Beeb are looking at the moment.
Seems unlike them however to be so vocal in regards to severe weather T24.
-
Looks like there are a number of storms heading in my direction - one after the other.
So much better than Saturday nights El Dampo Squibo.
-
Distant rumbles of thunder happening here.
These two cells have just gone through Luton Airport - and I'm totally drenched! Heading NE and building.
-
Any tornadic activity reported?
-
What is your location?
Luton Airport. I missed out earlier in the week due to travel.
-
Now exiting the no storm club for the first time in 2 years!
-
The first bolt has struck here!
-
Anybody on here chasing at the mo?
-
Think that was a rumble I heard.
-
Took TORRO a while to get in the game!
-
Started to rain here. Still dark.
-
come on..... Spit it out, I missed it.... Enlightem me?
Just a huge blob of green across entire Central England. Never seen anything like it.
-
I see Skywarn have got a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING rather than a WATCH out.
I guess the criteria is different from our friends across the water.

Not surprising. The ingredients are there + the shear power of the jet blasting the UK at the mo.
As for the current weather - heavy rain, but no rumbles/lightning (although that said, someone I know in town says they've heard rumbles in the last hour). Must be very localised.
