  1. There is definitely a case of '....should of gone to Specsavers...' in the MOD thread, added with a big dose of 'bi-polar' with regards to the reactions. With regards to the ups and downs with regards to predictions from the beginning of Dec 2016, an old Army saying keeps springing to mind.......' get on the bus.........get off the bus'
  2. I have come to the conclusion that to be a prolific poster in MOD thread you have to demonstrate 'bi-polar' disorder! I will have to now stand up for the 'Saaarfners' in that there is FAR TOO MUCH positive hysteria with regards to snow in the 'Nerf of UK' - we need it more in the 'Saaarf' for medicinal reasons.
  3. Bleedin Eck..... this thread reads like a mirtazapine sales convention - lol.
  4. The Army 'Cabbage Mechanics' still serve these up today !!!!
  5. Well thats jinx the next cold run - if they had put 'UK about to have a heat wave....hottest Feb on record' ...... then we would be in with a chance of snow.
  6. I read that on the Met Site but I did note that it states the average from1981 - 2010, so I wondering that if this included the snow 2009-2010 as this would surely raise the average.
  7. I put on winter tyres every year, they are good for water/black ice etc. Normal summer tyre compounds efficiency starts to diminish from as little as 6/5deg. Learnt that the hard way when driving across Europe one year in an Audi Quattro with brand new Michelin tyres on - temp was about -1 and I had to stop numours times as I was having major issues keep the car straight/in lane on the Autobahn. Right enough of my 'geeky' chat Regardless of the some moody buggers in the MOD thread, I still think that we are in for a reasonable winter, I think the main problem with some is that they think the that 2010 should be happening ever year when this is just not the case for our little Island. How ever, snow shovels are at the ready (got them 2014 at a steel as no snow ), also have the sleds at the ready (again same deal as the snow shovels ) so it would just be too rude not to have some sort of white stuff to use them all with
  8. I a bit surprised by many of the posts - the UK is of such a position that 'Snow' is not the normal and if it does then its usually for a day or so. I think a lot of people are expecting another 2010 - but that was a freak event. Afraid if you want snow then you need to move to Scotland (where there is a slightly higher possibility of snow but is not guaranteed ) or over to Canada which snow is the norm etc.
  9. I think that there are a few personalities in the MOD thread that are starting to 'tilt' The next few days are going to be very interesting.... "Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results." — Willie Nelson
  10. "Positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes the way we behave. And I firmly believe that when I am positive, it not only makes me better, but it also makes those around me better.” — Harvey Mackay
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the impression that the UKMO is typically the last to agree and that the ECM is the key to confirming trends?
  12. Simplistic view: enjoy the charts as if they were in realistic time scale, if the downgrade, ah so what, at least you had a bit of enjoyment/fun at the time. I think it better to do this than sit under a dark cloud dismissing all and depriving ones self of some fun, lives too sort and as we all run hard/fast lives these days - grab what ever positives are on offer. So as the old song goes........"let it snow, let it snow...."
  13. Nah they will be fine, just use gears and not brakes.
  14. Great charts and great posts, albeit FI but still raises hope. With regards to sorepaw1's post above, I have a 'posh' Audi however it's an Allroad with adjustable air suspension and winter tyres, I'm ex-military with reasonable experience driving in extreme winter conditions, the problem I have is being stuck behind cars with either summer tyres or big 4x4's where the drivers don't know how to drive and live on their brakes! Will be very interesting to see how the 'snow fest' offerings develop/down grade over the next few days. Heres looking to a good 'coldies' outlook for Jan
  15. Crawley: Temp: -3 Dewpoint: -2 Clear skies, should of put windscreen covers on the cars, oh well am sure my boys will manipulate in the morning for more pocket money!
  16. Problem is that a majority 'seem' to be spoiling for a forum debate as opposed to posting info that has a relation to the models. For some reason this year the amount of pettiness/one-up man ship has reached an unprecedented level. As previously mentioned it has been a complete nightmare for the less knowledgable to sift through and learn about the weather, expience and/or how the models work, instead more about disgruntlement and cynicism from people whom seem to have a little knowledge and are dangerous with it. A real shame as this forum used to be a great source of knowledge with balance views and interpretation, alas, it seems to be now going the route of 'chave' debuts and my exhaust is louder than yours!
  17. Been a nice day after a hard frost last night. Currently at -1 with dew point of -2, clear skies so think it will be a harder frost tonight. Future prospects, the 'snow' word has been increasingly mentioned in the MOD thread, with a snow risk now quoted for next Sunday...... things moving quite nicely in respect to the models. Just time will tell now.
  18. ........... oh dear, that's not good, suppose it's going to be another 'meltdown' in the MOD thread!
  19. Hope not nice frost starting tonight in Crawley, hopefully to continue, better this than mild and damp.
  20. Mery Christmas and festive wishes to all
  21. I agree - Im lurking but to be truthful there is too much personal opinions posted that have no value with regards to the actual models etc. This has a danger of this forum going to the 'dogs' as has happened with lots of other forums where the subject is lost amongst personal post battles and insults.
  22. May there should be a seperate MOD thread "hunting for cold and snow" so that this can be used for those who think models are showing cold and snow with their view(s), so that the MOD thread can be used for the more serious posts on reliable Synoptics etc.
  23. Ooh no, I know skin is waterproof but prefer dry of some kind, probably because I have memories of military life living/working in storms.
  24. Looks like it's 'handbags at dawn' in the MOD thread, posts are getting "lippy" apparently Think the weather is def getting to some.
