  1. I presume the post ref " lippy " in the MOD thread is insinuating that some male forecasters are in touch with their female side? .... or was it that some are multitasking
  2. There should be an online petition started against DE for the harm this is doing to the pensioners who are worrying if they can afford heating for the DE's supposed 100 year storm/snow bomb headlines. They remind me of round metal things that are used to open doors/drawers.
  3. Well that went down welll......................I'll get my coat!
  4. ......so,are you saying that no one wants to tell Santa to fit wheels to his sled?
  5. In my best 'seargent major' voice - 'Orrible day'........I know skin is water proof but please take the rain away!
  6. Quite uncalled for, shouldn't blame 'others' for your frustrations, at the end of the day its Mother Nature and regardless of money or experience it is a forecast simple as that.
  7. Blue skies with a slight chill in the wind
  8. Been raining most of the afternoon, still rainng but a bit of a chill in the air. As per the forecast a bit of sun tomorrow will be a relief and a good opportunity to clean off the cars as the grime on the roads has been quite bad.
  9. Evening all, this is to going sound very 'unconventional' and not intended as a ramp but with all the lrf's,flip-flopping of the models, I think that a cold spell with some flurries will arrive sometime over the holidays. ive tried to stand back and view the many posts with the various Synoptics as a whole, I get a gut feeling that their is something brewing in the background that 'may' produce a favouble outcome.
  10. In line with some of the posts above, as person that is trying to learn about Meteorology and of course what may be on the horizon, I must admit that it has been both difficult and fustating to separate the nonsense from meaningful posts of late. It would seem that some are clearly showing their fustration of the hunt for a 'one season' (snow), outlook for the UK that in reality is not possible. I for one love the snow but, I think that it's rareness is what makes it so special when it does materialise, am sure that if we're the opposite we would be craving for warmer/delayed cold winters.
  11. Sorry to jump out of the learners amateur wilderness, please may say that the above is a great example of how to be be polite but constructively challenge another post in such a way that us lesser knowledgeable readers can both learn and understand. This is a great site as a learning resource with both professionals and very knowledgeable enthusiasts. It is a shame that some posts have been disrespectfully bullish or demonstrating a little knowledge becomes dangerous when posted based on opinion and not facts. Bottom line is that we are ALL learning but at different levels both professionals and enthusiasts alike. Moderators sorry for off topic post. Many thanks to you all.
  12. Must admit that hopes are fast deminishing regarding an Xmas bonanza with festive cold prospects, tbh I was hoping thay the lrf predictions would build momentum but as each day I read the MOD thread it's going in the opposite direction As it stands I would be great full for just some frosty dry days, suppose it's still better than last year for the poor sole who got washed out last year is one positive.
  13. Apologies Mountain Shadow, it was a tongue and cheek statement. Regardless thank you for an answer sir.
  14. So judging from the supersonic flight of toys and teddies arms/legs flying, I take it that a White Xmas is off the cards then?!..........
  15. Another hard frost here, even see where cars had been on the road with dark tyre tracks on the frosty surface. Was around -1.5deg at 06:30.
  16. Don't see why not, military have used Met flights for years, although this make funny reading Military accused of changing weather!
  17. Heavy frost this morning, nice blue skies today, another frost taking hold tonight and the gritters are out.
  18. That's more like the "Frosty" (Karl), positive posts I've got used to reading. Rgds Karl
  19. Woke up to approx 2-3cm everywhere and very light wet snow falling, now 4-5cm and snowing '5-20p' size flakes, seems to be getting heavier. Happy to see the snow at home, back to Oslo next Tuesday which has 6-12inches with -5c to -12c at the moment. Hope others who have not seen a flake - get to see some snow soon.
  20. Currently in Leatherhead (normal place of work when not traveling) - had hail shower around 1pm and just had some very loud thunder that seemed to shake the room/office - loudest Ive heard in UK - thought I was back in the Far East with monsoons.....temp seems to have dropped........
  21. Hello all - again another ‘lurker’ but the recent events as such that I feel I would like to put up ‘a’ view(s): 1) SE Thread is by far the most balanced with educational posts (especially to a novice like myself) 2) I have wandered the other threads/topics and can , without hesitation, (but obviously only as my own opinion), say that this Regional Area (SE) is very entertaining and not full of obtrusive views/opinions 3) With regards to Tam - again only as a personal view but looking in from afar - it is obvious that Tam is passionate about meteorology and is very intelligent both in her research/knowledge - I see a lot of the retorts/posts not only to Tam’s posts but also others who are of the same elk - that are obviously displaying frustration that there has not been ‘one’ component, ‘SNOW’, closely followed being intimidated by Tam and her intellect. 4) Turning a negative into a positive - the SE thread/section, I feel would be best suited to Tam and I think the community and Tam would be like ‘Strawberries and Cream’ Now before I get slated for 23,000 word post I would like to finish with thanks to the Ladies and Gents in this SE section and commend you all for entertaining posts and a great atmosphere.
  22. DMI is quite good, we have used their site to great effect for Heli flights out to the rigs. It's quite mild here in Esbjerg, wind has a bit of a bite, but warmer than Crawley, wife reported that there was quite a good frost this morning and by the looks of it will be again tonight.Hope the fog clears for my flight back to London City Airport on Friday evening.
