  1. 20th November 2016 at Ladybower Reservoir in the Peak District.Could we have the same this year?
  2. First overhead thunder of the year here with brief but biblical rain.Didnt see any lightning though. All still and calm again now.Could be more to come looking at the radar!.
  3. Check out the Audi cup.Bayern Munich and Liverpool on itv4.The thunder and lightning is incredible.
  4. Sharp crack of distant thunder in Derby from the cell to the SE of here.Threatenng skies as I sit eating a very late lunch!.
  5. I just caught the edge of that storm leaving Derby, heavy rain and heard one sharp crack of thunder and saw one bright flash of sheet lightning. So I guess I'm out of the no storms club!!.5 miles north back home there's no rain at all.
  6. Year on year it seems to be getting worse.Back in the mid 90's I remember terrific storms lasting all night and some crackers in the day as well.Mind you, you could say the same about snow we never get much of that here now either.
  7. Yep nothing here as usual, just plain old rain. What do we have to do to get a storm around here. Its getting tedeous now!!
  8. Steady drizzle here, but the wind has really picked up in the last half an hour or so!.
  9. The cloud has yet to break here in Derby though it is still very humid with a fresh breeze.I'm just hoping the cloud doesn't scupper our chances later. Not that I'm hoping for much as every event so far has been a let down here this year!.
  10. Same here Gord no storm here for the last 2 years. My lad is going on 30 months and has still seen no thunder or lightning.Mind you he hasn't seen any snow yet either. This country is getting boring for even the most basic weather.
  11. The cell to the SW of me looks impressive, think we might get a few drops of rain but nothing more.
  12. Yep I'm keeping an eye on that.Skies starting to look much more promising around here now.
  13. We've got stormy skies to the west and east of here.Think I'm to far south to see anything now though.Still no storms here this year!!.
  14. Think the M1 was shut for a few hours too.Just north of Nottingham.
  15. A promising sunny start but quickly clouded over.Temp at 09.30 17 degrees.Sunny spells now and pleasantly warm in a southerly breeze.
  16. I would go back to the winter of 1990-91 when heavy wet snow brought down power lines accross the East Midlands. Here just north of Derby we had no power for 2 weeks even though the lying snow only lasted for a week at best.I remember looking out of the window and seeing blue electrical flashes lighting up the night sky.I was only 9 at the time and it was a quite a scary night to remember.
  17. I too have seen the charts and like you say I would be extremely surprised to see anything thundery this far north.Chances are the storms will drift NE up the North Sea or lose all their spark before reaching the Midlands. But hey we should never give up hope.
  18. I feel your pain Supacell, storms around here have declined in spectacular fashion in the last 15 years or so.So far this year I have seen one solitary flash of lightning in Maplethorpe last Wednesday evening!!.The last few years here around Derby have been particularly bad.
  19. On holiday in Mablethorpe and just seen a flash to my north west.First lightning of the year for me!!.
  20. Hi Whoisseen.I've lived Just north of Derby all my life and can remember some cracking storms in the mid to late 90's.The last 10 years or so though have seen a spectacular decline in storm activity around my area and I don't know why.I've a 3 year old son and he has yet to see a decent storm.Currently in Mablethorpe on holiday and it is overcast and cool.
  21. We're on our way to mablethorpe today and the clouds are really bubbling up here.Just had some big drops of rain in Skegness, nothing much but promising signs for later on maybe.
  22. Afternoon all,it's currently cool and dull here just north of Derby. But if that cell that's currently over Birmingham continues to grow things could get interesting here in an hour or so.Had no thunder at all here so far this year, could we possibly get some today?!.
