Sure I woken by a clap of Thunder as this beast of a shower passed through in the early hours.Really gusty winds and torrential rain too.Beautiful start to the day here now,not a cloud in the sky.
A clear cold morning with first ice of the season on the car windscreen.Sunny throughout the day although threatening cloud did develop late afternoon but it did stay dry.
Plenty of thunder around here this afternoon mostly to my west.Nothing directly overhead though. We had a few beefy showers around 3-4pm.Still feeling very muggy outside though.
Poor day here to be fair.Cloudy and breezy all day max temp 20 degrees.Brief rain around 5pm for around 15 mins.Heavy rain here now with gusty winds, but no T&L doesn't even feel all that muggy!!.Apart from the nighttime storm on 4th July it's been a very poor summer for storms here.
If all these showers and storms are moving up from the SE tonight, how come the wind here in Derbys is from the NW direction, with the clouds definitely heading south to South East?!.
Should the tropical air currently East of Florida move move North East with the jet stream. What kind of weather can we expect here in the UK?.Heat,Thunderstorms etc.Just wondered what everyone's thoughts were?.
Had snow here in the last week of October back in 1999,if my memory serves me right. It was a really windy stormy morning and I remember seeing lorrys with the front of their cabs covered with snow, heading in from the Ashbourne area.
Hi Flash Bang, people around here also reported seeing distant lightning early this morning with reports from as far north as Chesterfield.I witnessed the Lightning at around 12.30 am way off to my SE.The nearest storm was just south of Peterborough,so that's the best part of 80 miles away.Very interesting to see.
I can now see very distant flickers to my East Odd Spot, thought it was my eyes at first.Well found my friend. The wife is now panicking as she hates srorms
I now think that the zone from say Portsmouth to the Humber could get a storm tonight as as usual they seem to be drifting NE.Anywhere West of that zone will stay storm free.Including here in Derby.
I noticed that as well Supacell.I was watching 2 storms at around 2.15am.The one to my East had beautiful pink lightning, and the one to my west electric blue!!.Lovely to watch.
Currently in in the back garden, the storms seem to be slowing down on their track north, seen lightning from here since 1am,feels quite cool as well. Most of the lightning is sheet, with distant deep rumbling thunder. No rain as yet.
