  1. Just looked and Oldham is current 6.9! Still got an hour till it reaches its peak
  2. Being around the summer solstice and sunny most of next week I shall be keeping a close eye on the reading over the next week or so! Fingers crossed somewhere reaches 9!
  3. That's crazy! Imagine just stepping outside and within 30 seconds I'd be blackened!
  4. The highest ever recorded was 43.3 in Bolivia on an active volcano. Can't imagine how quickly you would burn in them conditions https://www.livescience.com/46701-andes-highest-uv-index-measured.html
  5. I have spent a lot of time over the years trying to find reliable UK recorded UV data but it is very few and far between I'm sure if it was recorded daily across all stations like temperatures are then a UV of 9 would have been recorded somewhere along the south
  6. I realised we talk a lot about the weather generally, on here and across the UK but one thing that is rarely mentioned is the UV index so my first question is; Do you guys know whether we have ever recorded a UV index of 9 here in the UK? I see many places as far north as Nottingham will be hitting 8 next week provided there are clear skies and many times I've known the UV to hit 8 in London, most years we get atleast 7-10 days I'd say but surely somewhere on the south coast will have hit 9 on a few accasions. I also regularly check www.temis.nl which gives a clear sky UV index forecast which over many years I've come to realise is generally is out by 1UV. They are forecasting 7.5 in London next week which if I'm right would mean 8.5 and surely the south coast could hit 9 by that reasoning? Any thoughts or facts would be interesting to hear. Thankyou

  8. Currently 15.4oC, was a dry morning but at half 12 it began to rain. By 1pm it was pouring and didn't stop until around 4pm Local Wunderground stations are reporting in excess of 40mm although debatable how accurate they are. Was some of the worst flooding I have seen in my area by the end of the storm and many roads were impassable. I live in Hertfordshire. Where's the best place to get accurate live rainfall readings from online?
  9. Not sure if this is the right place to post this but is it possibly that the heat island effect has caused warm air to rise over London and helped create instability which has caused a line of storms to build just down-wind of the city? The netweather radar seems to show the latest storms has originated just on the outskirts of London but not in London itself? My sister is currently in London and no rain there yet here in Hertfordshire we've had storm after storm
  10. Cloudy all day, very breezy with a few spots of rain here and there Much cooler today than yesterday with a high of just 13.8oC down on yesterday's 22.4oC Hertfordshire
  11. I know most on here aren't to bothered about UV because it isn't directly related to weather as a whole but I am interested to see what UV index people experience in the coming weeks and months because I like tanning and it interests me. I am yet to experience a UV index of above 3 this year because they have all occurred during the 3 out of the last 4 weekends and I work weekends but overall UV index's have been very low for the time of year but pollution is extremely high if you look on the met office site. So anyway anyone who would like to comment or talk about the UV in their location or elsewhere in the coming months then feel free
  12. I just wanted to start this topic just so anyone can report if they have any snow in the next day or so, I live in St.Albans, Hertfordshire and we have had no snow this winter bar one day in early December where we had a heavy shower and it turned to hail and then snow which melted a few minutes after. I have just looked out and we had a heavy burst of rain and you could make out some snowflakes within it but then the shower moved on (current temperature 3.9oC) (Any photo's welcomed too) Some snow is forecast for hills across the country tonight so will be interested to find out who has snow and where.
  13. Hmm this could be interesting.. May- I would like a lot of warm (17oC) days at the beginning of the month with changeable weather but not unsettled, just a week or so where it's typical 'April showers' weather but in May. After the 15th I would like High pressure to gradually start coming in with increasing sun and a bit more warmth (20-22oC). Then for mine and my sisters birthday on the 22nd and 21st I would like some strong sunshine with unbroken deep blue skies (temperatures surpassing 30oC on a number of days with low humidity) June- The first few days still sunny and gorgeous with not a cloud to be seen but then by the 10th or so signs of a breakdown with some strong storms and temperatures peaking at around 32oC. then mid month some changeable weather again with low pressure close enough to the UK to bring showers and 1 or 2 cold fronts just bringing temperatures down to around 19oC. Then from around the 18th of June July- until mid July I would like similar conditions to last year where there are many cloudless days, some days around 22oC due to some very early low cloud limiting temperatures but most days around 26oC, any warmer is a bit too much and with some cool nights around 12oC so its good to sleep. Then until the end of the month a bit more of unsettled conditions just to dampen the ground a little bit and to stop the ground from parching. this lasting just into the first few days or August. August- The unsettled conditions then leading to a warm front coming from the south and a Spanish plume becoming established for a few days lifting temperatures to the highest we've seen for a few years 36oC or higher would be interesting just for a couple of days before huge thunderstorms come to break it up and then the rest of the month having cool days, not really above 26oC on any days with a stiff breeze but still pretty sunny but days here and there with light showers before sunshine returns. September- As we head towards the end of summer a lot of days with rain overnight and even during the day, especially for the first couple of weeks before sun and heat returns for the end of September to bring a late taste or truly summer like weather and temperatures near 30oC. I know all of this is unlikely to happen because there is a lot of sun and heat in there but I did try and put in some more unsettled conditions so that the heat and sun doesn't become oppressive and also just so we really appreciate the nice weather instead of seeing it as regular summer weather.. The SUNNIEST summer we've ever had would be nice but with frequent E to NE breezes just to keep the temperatures down the majority of the time... Perfect tanning conditions!
  14. Oooo I'm actually quite excited for all that winter feeling this year, the last few years I've had to walk to and from school, town, shops etc in the freezing cold and wearing a stupid amount of heavy clothing, this year I will have a car by November and so as long as the cold holds off until then I should have a more pleasurable winter! I love snow, ice etc etc I just can't stand that horrible numbing cold in your extremities! I have sweaty hands and feet almost continually through genetics and that means unless my body is very cold then I will have a hot body and sweaty hands then exposed to a freezing air... not good! This year I can go from a cosy, heat blanketed bed then into a nice and 20 minutes warmed up car with heated seats (going to buy some that plug into the lighter socket) and then into a nice and warm classroom.. That's the plan anyway haha I do love a change in weather and season though just as long as we don't get endless rain and mildness!

  16. Was a beautiful day at 32.4oC, you know it's hot when you walk out of a supermarket and feel like your stepping out of a plane on holiday ahah, still 23.5oC at half 11! I really haven't felt TOO hot today though and that - I think - is down to the cool day and night yesterday!
  17. Well it is VERY hot here and think we might have just beat the highest temperatures this summer at 32.4oC but I have a feeling it was in tjhe sun a little bit, have moved it and will see if it goes down
  18. Don't think I could ever live there! That's comparable to a warm October here! No thankyou! My average high this month was 26.7oC and overall was 20.58! very warm month indeed!
  19. You said "willies..." again aha, pretty sure you mean WELLIES! haha
  20. So I see there is a pretty good chance of some hot (30+) temperatures returning at the end of next week! Do we start a new thread for that or do we use this one? haha
  21. Well we apparently topped out at 29.6oC here in the garden! It certainly felt hot! 29oC at Heathrow I think? Can't believe they got thje forecast so wrong! Was meant to be below 20oC here today and raining all day! Maaan did we have a good storm though! Started at around 7ish? and brought really torrential rain and a lot of huge flashes of lightening and deep rumbles of thunder that went right through your body! We all sat outside under our huge Gazibo and it was sooo nice! Heat was trapped in but with sound of rain around us and the drinks flowing, as bizare as it sounds, it really felt like a good summers evening!
