  1. We have -8c 850hpa across most of the UK for over 72 hours from the east, that’s quite an event. And although most of the models do show the spell ending, that is over 144hrs away so there’s time for change especially when the UKMO is onboard for continuing the spell
  2. 144hr ECM 12z a bit of downgrade compared to its 00z , we lose the heights in the Atlantic , something which we need for an extension of this cold spell
  3. Before the 144hr chart comes out from the ECM, I think this is the time frame to look out for regarding an extension of our soon to be cold spell. Things to look for : • Increased heights to the north in the Atlantic • The incoming low pressure to take on a negative tilt/less bowling ball kind of look
  4. When it’s the GFS vs the rest, then the GFS rarely comes out on top, especially when it’s due to sending energy SE as in this case. Get worried when the UKMO is not on board..
  5. The stuff over the channel looks a lot more heavier, let’s see if we can get it over here when it gets dark however we do run the risk of it also introducing milder air
  6. Well wasn’t I wrong! Didn’t think it was going to be snowing in Cardiff today. Settling on cars, grass and roofs for now. I have a bit of elevation how’s the rest of Cardiff doing?
  7. This is the sort of pattern I expect from our SSW. Glad we are finally seeing it down well into the trop
  8. I don’t think our snow chances will come on Saturday or Sunday (except high ground). Currently observing a potential trough early hours of Monday which will likely produce snow if we get it
  9. Just a note: Although we’ve seen from past events that these systems trend south nearer to the date, its interesting that the band which gave us snow last night moved a lot more north and west than expected pivoting over the West Midlands.
  10. Models indicating some possible surprises from next Friday. It’s a long shot but keeping an eye on it. We got snow for most places except the coasts under -4c 850hpa - although marginal you just need a good airflow to drop those dewpoints to below 0c
  11. Snow has a really high albedo meaning it reflects a lot of light hence the reason why everything seems brighter when there’s snowfall especially near lampposts
  12. Unless the showers behind organise into something more substantial then you might catch the odd heavy shower but that looks to be it especially as the second area of precipitation has weakened significantly and looks to be staying over sea
  13. Yeah I don’t think the professionals did well with getting the word out there for this snowfall especially for Cardiff where most places are seeing over 3cm.
  14. Similar to me here in Cardiff. Starting to see more organisation behind the main front...
  15. Well if it’s snowing and settling in the far west then surely it looks really good for the rest of us?
  16. That’s promising given that you’re in the far west! Are you near the coast or have a bit height?
  17. I’m watching for those pockets of showers behind the main front to form a more larger band of ppn as the front starts to tilt, I do believe this is where the ppn duration will come from
