  1. Morning all! What started off as a very gloomy morning is now starting to brighten up! Didn't think I would be seeing the sunshine for a few days following my post from yesterday evening. 9 degrees as well and rising! Better make the most of it before the rain arrives! I was checking out the charts this morning and thought this was quite an interesting one to post for anybody in the early phases of learning "simple" meteorology.....If there are any on this thread? However, in the hope of helping others to learn by offering my very simple and limited knowledge see image below.... Shows clearly the rain band, that is about to affect our small Island, forming quite clearly between the Low Pressure system to the North (cold air) and High Pressure system to the South (warm air). It's also huge and not very wide due to being squeezed between the 2 air masses, spanning pretty much from SE of New York all the way to the UK....That's a direct hit if ever you saw one! Have a lovely weekend all!
  2. @Essexgooner and @alexisj9my last post wasn't directed at you, just a general note of advice for speed readers that may only see "ECM boom" and "MOD thread going mental"!
  3. Watch with interest, but dont get dragged in to another false hope.....watch and see what happens over the next few days.....good charts tonight, maybe not so good tomorrow...Please don't get hung up on one run.....interesting output none the less that should be discussed, as that is why we are here, but as we all know watch with a very open mind.......fingers crossed!
  4. LOL...After a beautiful day today , this has to be the most monochrome, boring whether that I have ever seen predicted for the next 3 days in my location! In graphical form anyway! This type of whether will keep this thread quiet..... Saturday.......................................... Sunday............................................. Monday........................... What have I or indeed we done to deserve this ! LOL......Have a lovely evening all
  5. Morning all of you lovely people! Beautiful morning, thick frost on grass, plants and even the road this morning, -3 degrees, beautiful crystal blue sky....if we cant have snow, this has to be second best doesn't it! Enjoy and have a lovely day all!
  6. Precisely! This is a dynamic situation that even models cannot predict, therefore, if you have the energy, lets watch the radar and reports from the Southern / Midlands Regional threads this evening and see what transpires....you never know you may get lucky! Have a great day all!
  7. Far too early to say which way it will go! Current snow risk charts for reference...to be taken with a pinch of salt for the time being as it still could end up as a full on rain event....still, for now, nice to look at ?
  8. Absolutely, that's why we are all here! If there is no hope, we aint got nothing!
  9. Morning all...beautiful morning as @Blessed Weather states above, just wish I had the opportunity today to go for a walk, but alas duties keep me office bound today! I don't want to get hung up on Wednesday / Thursdays events as a little too early to discuss with any confidence, however, just wanted to post this chart from ECM....its showing a little low pressure system across the South coast....if this was to verify I wonder if this may help to spring a few surprises, by way of either creating more moisture and / or possibly helping to 'mix in' the colder uppers? Definitely something to keep an eye on over the next few runs? Have a lovely day all!
  10. Ben I have PM'd you to stop cluttering the thread, however, that is one big edit since I first saw this post......and the answer is no, see post to @ Surrey immidiately afterwards. I have no weather agenda. Will reply fully in the morning. Have a nice trip to Montreal, and bring some pics back!
  11. And Surrey, so will I! Because regardless of us feeling short changed with regard to 'epic' weather events, we will get our time....and may regret it....but it's the chasing, with a little positivity, because we know we will get lucky (or unlucky) eventually. But most of all because we love the unpredictability of nature's unstoppable force whether it's hot, cold, wet, foggy, windy, thunder, lightning or tornado....or drizzle! Probably all in one day! Let's lift our glasses to the Great British weather...We salute you! So, is it going to snow on Wednesday / Thursday? LoL
  12. Darren and earlier Louise are just presenting a forecast from the briefing they have received, based upon the current data to hand.....We all know that this is a knife edge situation with regard to rain / snow and the forecasts that they presented may change tomorrow as much as the actual weather that is experienced on Wednesday / Thursday? This will be a now casting event if ever there was one, however that doesn't make Darren a 'not' lovely person because he doesn't forecast as you would wish?! I personally don't know him but I can, with a lot of certainty, know he is doing his job as expected? Their forecasts may well be correct.....let's wait and see what happens. This won't be nailed until The event itself.....enjoy what is unfolding , as it is not usual to have a front with cold air to the NW battling with cold air to the SE. This maybe fun, let's enjoy it regardless of the outcome!
  13. Radar return prediction for 19.30 this evening....Note the small snow showers to the North, currently moving South.....wonder if some of these may make it to our region? Doubtful, but we can hope! Have a nice evening all!
  14. Aroma 1.3km........very similar.... Looks like I'm too far West .....but you never know? Looks good for all in the East of the region! Good luck all!
  15. Snap, was just thinking the same thing myself..... could these build and give somebody a surprise further South....? Very encouraging for later on though! Fingers crossed!
  16. Hi Lottie Dew points will definitely take a tumble later if the current charts can be trusted. I think the key thing is whether we can get any showers that do form to penetrate suitably inland.....This will be a very localised event, some will get lucky, others won't! Good luck and hope you get a wintry surprise, other than a harsh frost, come tomorrow morning!
  17. Predicted conditions tonight would be conducive for snow in our location..... T850's look ok and the 528 Dam line covering all of the region..... Dew point and suface temperatures look ok..... just need some precipitation...... High Res says yes to showers moving inland on a keenNorth / North Easretly wind.......watch this space! Fingers and toes crossed!
  18. Our neighbours got lucky, nice photo..... courtesy of @John Badrick lovely morning, clear blue skies, sunny 2.6c Have a lovely day all
  19. Got sledge....check......Wine......plenty...check......where's my car keys .....hope the roads have been gritted? Will pick up anybody within 20 min of my location on route.... @steve Murr, I'll see you there!
  20. Hi Daniel Yes, the precipitation does seem to be building more than I had expected and those dew points are definitely moving in the right direction......watch this space....or your lamp post, unless the council have turned yours of a swell to save on energy costs! LOL Fingers and toes crossed for all!
  21. 12z still showing a risk for tonight, possibly even an uparade from the 06z......charts below for reference. I'm struggling to see the risk at this moment in time as current and predicted temperatures and dew points seem far to high to me and with just light rain forecast there is no chance for any evaporative cooling? Still, let's be positive in an extremely marginal set up, even if you can call it that, and I do hope that at least some of you lovely people get to see something white falling from the sky this evening / night! You never know, somebody may get lucky! Have a nice evening all. Now where are those straws .....
  22. So what the 00z taketh, the 06z brings back.....you couldn't make it up! As mentioned before, Wednesday / Thursdays potential event will not be nailed until at least Wednesday morning, therefore, charts attached for reference only and not to be taken seriously at this stage! 06z still showing a risk today however hard to believe given current reality.....However, I just wonder whether the temps can drop sufficiently after dark to at least provide some interest....If there is still some presipitation obviously. .....just have wait and see? Ever the optimist! Have a great day all!
  23. Jo, stay with us and you will learn! There are a lot of knowledgeable and more importantly, friendly people on this thread....Im the later not the former, but I'm trying, however, it takes a lot of time and more than anything a passion for all types of weather....nature is an amazing force! Tell us more about the trenches? i intrigued!
