A stunningly picturesque mill – the present buildings date from the 18th century, although there has been a mill on this site since the 16th century. The mill was used commercially until 1959
  2. The photography of arctic wildlife in the vid is superb.
  3. There was a good variety of weather today, imby. It started off grey and misty this morning, then up in the NE corner, a few sunny intervals transpired - temp between Fraserburgh and Peterhead 11C in the early afternoon.- mid afternoon, some sharp showers and rainbows. And now there is some lovely clear light on the hills. Not boring in my book ?
  4. After a few brief attempts of breaking through, the sun disappeared and stayed occluded for most of the day. Slightly less cold than yesterday with the temp sitting at a stubborn 6C. I did hear a Lark singing this morning, on leaving home, in among the spuggie chatter. A good sign that Spring is near.
  5. Yep, snow gone, grey skies, raining and quite unpleasant. It was clear around midnight, though, providing good views of the penumbral lunar eclipse.
  6. I've cancelled and rearranged for next week - I would be traveling home around dusk and, in addition to the road conditions, I really dislike driving in that half-light. I'm not actually able to link to the NW radar - the page is telling me that it is unavailable or busy, but my internet connection is pretty hopeless anyway atm.
  7. Glad you were able to sort out your daughter's difficulties and no harm was done. Roads pretty dicy here too with a thin covering of freezing snow. I am due to go to the Mintlaw, New Pitsligo area this afternoon, but I'm minded to cancel - especially after reading your post above!.
  8. Coldies/Snow Lovers.......be careful what you wish for http://newsandbusiness.rogersdigitalmedia.com.edgesuite.net/videos/13639244001/201612/2850/13639244001_5238239279001_5238231028001.mp4
  9. I have had a temporary disinterest in the weather - I think there has been a fog and fairly grey and cold condition over the past two days or so. My doggie has had her op, and I'm hoping for some benign conditions for the next few days so that she can have some quiet, pleasant and restrained exercise.
  10. Same here, Ravelin, -6C at 8am, and I did what one is not supposed to do and left the engine running with heater going full blast for 10mins or so. The ice crystals in the water jets for the windscreen wipers did not clear until about 25 miles up the road. A few localised patches of lying snow around particularly in and just north of Old Meldrum. Temps have recovered now to +2C. It's cloudy, threatening a shower with a slight breeze from the SW.
  11. I'm afraid she has been diagnosed with an aggressive adenocarcinoma and was "staged" last week, at which time she was supposed to start her treatment. The small animal oncology unit at the "Dick" vet in Edinburgh, is a great resource, but is a very busy place. The plan is surgery, followed by radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
  12. A fine, icy, still morning with a peachy glow at sunrise. Temp -2C earlier. Excellent conditions for an early morning walk. Snow confined to elevation. My doggie is having a week's reprieve before her surgery.
  13. Rather gloomy and misty here this morning, but showing signs of clearing. Frost free and a slight SW breeze. Temp 3C.
  14. Had to trail out to the local coal merchant this afternoon. Quite a weather contrast over 5 miles or so. Temp 7C, 3pm at home, but 0C and heavy frost near Auchenblae. Taking this pic nearly caused me a proper skite.
  15. This winter's weather has not been in the slightest boring, here, anyway. In fact the last three days have been beautiful, with crisp morning frosts followed by clear sunny skies - cloudless tis morning too. . Overall the lack of gales/wind and now the longer daylight hours are additional bonuses. I can tolerate the odd short-lived snowfest in these circumstances.
  16. Awakened from hibernation today and took myself off to one of the Angus Glens. The snow cover here is really on higher-up locations. . Anyway came across two lovely Reds chasing around in the white stuff. ....and at one point these two slowly shunted themselves out of the way.
  17. A shortish walk in Glen Lethnot this afternoon. No deep snow, but slippy underfoot. The corries had a semi-decent covering. The Water of Saughs was quite icy. Spotted a Dipper there, but camera not ready. Sidney, eat your heart out.
  18. Clear sky, great visibility, slight frost, no wind to speak of and temp -1C. Treated to another interesting sunrise.
  19. I have bought this guide The Panasonic Gx8 Menu System Simplified but have to confess not advancing past p3 as it is also a difficult and badly written text. Must persevere though, some more night-time reading, I fear.
  20. Not sure about that observation, NL. I do remember some sporadic very cold Aprils - Junes in the past. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/dec/28/climate-change-driving-birds-migrate-early-research-reveals-edinburgh-global-warming
  21. I believe the Kingfisher sexes can be differentiated by the colour of the lower mandible - the females having an orange/yellow tinge.
  22. The garden has been quite quiet over recent days, but a small flock of Redwings landed in the trees this afternoon. I’m having difficulty, however, in mastering the focus facility on my camera and think it must be necessary to have a PhD in understanding the Panasonic gobbledygook in the user manual
  23. There's been a wee bit of discussion on a serious thread about infrastructure, however:- I’m a regular user of Scotrail. The organisation has not let me down –well -maybe just on one or two occasions over the years. Back to anecdotes, recently, the very helpful customer services staff, including the station manager, at Waverley, helped me retrieve some very personal items which were in a co-op plastic bag, and left on board, after I jumped on and off a train which subsequently had left the station and was not scheduled to stop at my destination. I collected the lost lot, as directed, at Dundee. Many thanks to Scotrail.
