  2. It was such a fine autumn day, instead of hanging about home, went for a walk up Glen Esk. A distant Red Kite. Some scenery Best of all, coming down, some super clouds up to the north east.
  3. Another sunny, cloudless and wind-free day - couldn't ask for more given the time of year. Cold tho', temp at 11.30, 0C with frost still covering the car. Going to clean and hang out the bird feeders this afternoon.
  4. That's good news, knocker. it was also reported over the past few days that Golden Eagles are no longer an endangered species with at least 500 breeding pairs in Scotland.
  5. Sparkly morning with heavy grass frost and now a peachy sky - no breeze and temp -2C.
  6. Another very pleasant clear and frost - free morning with great visibility and hardly a breath of wind. Temp 5C. A positive about these darkening mornings is being up and running at concurrent sunrise and moonset times.
  7. A very pleasant day with a high of 14c around midday, very good visibility and a slight WSW breeze - some welcome late afternoon sunshine too. The moon has been and is at present partially visible - a better than expected view.
  8. Just arranged a few days R&R in Argyll at the end of the month - and a temporary escape from the Christmas hype. Can't wait, and when I come back home it will be less than three weeks until the winter solstice. posted in wrong thread - again! - never mind!
  9. Another beautiful sunrise - calm with a slight frost - temp 0c - just how I like autumn / winter mornings. On the subject of waxwings, I had an unsuccessful trip to Montrose yesterday in search. According to local sources there is one, possibly two small flocks there at the moment - at least yesterday afternoon. If anyone is nearby and interested, I can supply details of the location.
  10. Crisp underfoot, clear skies, still, nice sunrise, 0c and some windscreen scraping will be necessary shortly.
  11. I believe that numerous small flocks of Waxwings have been spotted up and down the east coast recently.
  12. Sunny intervals, rain showers, a cutting breeze from the north sums up today's weather. Temp 4C. I disturbed a huge flock of Redwings, at a guestimate 100+, when out and about this morning.
  13. A very brief stroll with dog today, dodging the showers.
  14. Sunny at present, but NNEasterly strengthening ahead of something rather ominous approaching from the north. Temp 3C.
  15. BBC Two - Arctic Live http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b081z4m4 On shortly.
  16. On October 19th, 60 swallows, near the Angus coast, were reported to be flying south. Let's hope the lore is correct.
  17. - but seriously, nasty weather and short daylight hours do affect my feeling of wellbeing. Even today, I was driving home at approx 15.45 and it was gloomy, darkening, drizzling, with oncoming headlights being pesky. Safety issues get even worse with ice, snow and low level sun around. Can't wait for signs of next spring.
  18. A nice chance surprise late this afternoon - a field with Whooper Swans, in among a large flock of Greylags and Canada Geese. - record shots only
  19. A stunning day in Highland Perthshire. Milky sunshine for the late morning and also during the afternoon with highs of 16C Hardly a breath of wind. I had to peel off a couple of layers on a walk around part of Loch Freuchie. After leaving Glen Quaich and before dropping down to Kenmore, still great autumn weather. How I dread winter - the old Shogun is getting its winter tyres this week.
  20. Stopped off for a 1/2 hr or so at SWT Balgavies, en route to shops. Whooper Swans and Goldcrests have been reported there recently, but no luck in spotting them this morning. It was, however, a beautiful serene morning with the hide to myself, serene that is, until this gaggle of Greylags arrived. There is an ongoing issue regarding foliage at the hide obscuring the Loch. Although there is a long establish Cormorant colony at Balgavies, I still think they look very odd roosting in trees.
  21. Feeling quite chilly when dog walking this morning, but there was a spectacular sunrise. Overall a grey day, and not feeling particularly pleasant in a blustery breeze from the west, High this afternoon of 15C, but beginning temp to drop.
  22. With shortening daylight hours, the dog's walks are getting earlier and earlier. This late afternoon was sunny, and very still, but chilly. And then this appeared - I thought initially it was a plane contrail, but probably a firework ?
  23. Hope Sidney's forecast is on target. Prolonged ice and snow days are my least favoured scenarios. Roll on spring 2017.
