June 9/10, first week let it down

    July 5/10

August so far as not finished 8/10.

Fair enough, you must be located somewhere that had much better weather this summer because I can't say that July was an average month or that August has been nearly as good as June.

Some worrying signs that, although next week's heat may be a one day wonder high pressure may be on the way back early in the week after.  Let's hope we don't see a return to prolonged heat like we had last August.

It's not especially hot, temperatures will be around 25C on the warmest days which is perfect for summer.

    Yes agreed MW….if only 🙄

Talking of, if only….I’m getting tired of seeing the hype when SSW is provisionally showing great promise, but then falls flat of its face, I must add though, it’s amusing when the model thread implodes on itself because of this 🤣🤣🤣

I wonder how the Model thread will be this Winter, busy I hope 🤞😁

I’m at a dizzy height today of just 12.1c and ☔☔☔

Slightly warmer here further south at 14.9C, but it still feels especially cool, even for this summer.

  4. The most notable thing today is not the wind or the rain, but the temperatures. Birmingham hasn't exceeded 12C and it isn't expected to get any warmer. The last time such a low temperature was locally recorded in August was 2010 (12.8C).

Is that northerly, cause it looks Northwesterly to me, and that hasn't been to bad, probably due to sea temps more than anything else mind.

It's a Northerly flow, so temperatures will really struggle, especially in Northern areas (as one would expect). It certainly won't feel like summer.

You shouldn’t be so dismissive, it’s likely parts of country will see their dullest July on record it has also been very unsettled for many. This is extremely poor for height of summer. End of. What do average temperatures mean when you cannot enjoy the outdoors?

    likely

Yes it has been exceptionally dull in the West Midlands, because for some reason the region has been a cloud magnet (as is evident today).

I don’t mind the odd washout day, quite nice for sticking on a film and pigging out but tomorrow should be far less rainy; with a few brighter spells thrown in 🙂 no sign of oppressive heat too which I’m happy about, anything below 25c suits me nicely 😁

any ideas on rainfall amounts in the area today? Must be 25-30mm. Not flooding levels by any means but plenty of heavier bursts.

also, went to see Oppenheimer this eve. Well worth a watch; brilliant film

A washout day after a nice spell of weather is often welcome, but this month has had more than enough wet and grim weather. Also, any respite tomorrow is probably limited to central/southern areas as yet another band of rain moves southwards across the country, reaching all areas by Monday.

Worst summer I can remember in a long time this, absolute utter garbage. Ah well always next year, sigh.

I don't think it's necessarily summer as a whole that's been garbage (as of yet), but rather this month. Spring was garbage, and so it would be unfortunate if the remainder of Summer remained as miserable as it is. All eyes are on August, but it does look like the first half of the month isn't offering much respite.

  9. The argument that some people here have against climate change doesn't really make sense. Just because a heatwave in a particular location hasn't been the most severe in history, doesn't mean that on a global scale temperatures haven't increased.

Having said that, I do think heat warnings are being issued unnecessarily at times, and consequently people may end up taking them less seriously. For instance, in Greece they issued a "red heat warning" in the Ionian Islands where temperatures are only slightly higher than normal.

This is where I’m at. I don’t like any of the changes. If it’s not broke don’t fix it - seems to be one of the hardest concepts to follow in the modern age.

So we shouldn't attempt to make things look better or improve them because "it's not broke"? Going by this logic, the site would still look like this:
