yep yorkshire folk are the nicest people in the world that's a fact. This cold spell looks even better than the last one, and could be more prolonged.

Looks like Lincolnshire will miss out again!
Won't know until at least 24 hours beforehand.

So it looks like there will be a cold spell as we start February.
ECM show this

So W+S.Yorks and Derbyshire have tons of snow...while the rest of us can only dream of such conditions, someone mentioned that Paul Hudson said 'snow on hills, rain/sleet elsewhere'...which is exactly right, all of you posting about snow are around 100m asl or above...well for your information that is a hill, quite a big one, in marginal sutuations 30m can be the difference...all we've had over here on the flat land is rain/sleet...so be thankful for your hills...
Its always going to be more marginal if you live near the coast

Any idea what its like in Batley. My concern is that when I leave work later it'll either be settling again or freezing over.
Roads are clear. I'm at 130m and theirs about 7+cm I'd say.

Funny how you're all berating the MetO, when they said that accumulations to lower levels would be a struggle. SM the great was expecting amber warnings to be issued, I don't see any finger pointing towards him.
5cm+ here

Paul Hudson is wrong again with the 'sleety mix'

The band should move into Sheff in about 10 minutes!

Could reach Sheffield in an hour or two.

Is it any wonder people get confused !!!
Shaky was talking about 96 hours, NBLSB was talking about 120 hours...
I love these everything's further west comments we see with every run.
So far on this run there is no real change at the moment. Our snow fortunes will only improve if we start picking up a continental feed. Time will tell.
The cold spell lasts an extra 48 hours, and it's not just the airflow that increases chances of snow. Some continental feeds can be dry.

The cold spell looks to last into Friday now with -6 uppers still around
Considering the GFS showed a break down on Wednesday on yesterdays 12z, this is a good improvement, lets hope this continues

Here's my take
A chilly week approaching - some will see significant snow - most won't
Westerly regime into the SW by Friday - will likely be around for 7-10 days
Disappointed - Yes
How can you be disappointed about something that's not happened?

Highs of 1C Monday and Tuesday, so any snow that falls should stay
-
struggling to settle here and its very wet, weird as I'm at 130m
-
My forecast based on the modelling of the last 24hrs - snow to rain event for most next Tues/Weds then back to default pattern for this winter - strong pv to our north west.
Most runs show Tuesday as a snow event...

I use NW extra radar

But these are very rare events, it's like being disappointed every winter because it's not a repeat of 1962/63.
