Its amazing, all this talk of more snow, ice and freezing overnight temperatures! All week the forecast has been for temps to drop at night from -2 to -6 (ish). The temp in my location hasent gone below -0.9! That was the coldest night since 12th Jan when this all kicked off. Most nights have been just above freezing! Still waiting for the cold spell to start. Could Ian F explain why the forecasted temps are so way off the mark? This is quite imby I know.

Those pics didnt show for some reason?

Can anyone give any charts regarding 850's and 2m temperatures for tomorrows event? Seems much more marginal and slushy than Fridays event. Thanks.

There might be more to come, but that will be falling on wet surfaces so wont come to anything. Give me a Greenland high any day and some below freezing day time temps.....then some PPN from the east. Maybe in Feb? I wonder if the SSW will have an effect on us? Ian F said this cold spell is normal winter fare and nothing to do with SSW.

Snow thawing well here (Yatton) Since this cold spell started 7 days ago I am still waiting for my temperature gauge to read below zero! Quite amazing for a 'cold' spell. Got down to 0.1 last night, temp now 0.7. Such a shame 2m tempertures werent a lot colder when the snow arrived Friday. The snow seemed to be thawing as it was falling. Would of been some special snow depths had the temperature been much colder. No drifting occured to the 'wet' slushy nature of the snowfall. Would be amazing if a warm up did occur, that would mean IMBY no frost registered, so not really a cold spell for me except for some very wet snow.

Such a shame the 2m temps just wernt that cold. It seemed to thawing as it was snowing during the morning. With tempertures below freezing, snowfall amounts would of been interesting. Due to the wet type of snow, no drifting occured. Will I see my temperature gauge drop below freezing tonight? It still hasent reached negative values since this 'cold spell' started last Saturday.

Temps hit 5.5 IMBY today. (North Somerset) I really really hope those drop off fast before any PPN arrives. I can see the initial PPN causing the ground to get wet before the heavy PPN kicks in and hopefully temps drop. It could be quite a slushy mess by midday, but I really hope not. My temps have been one or two degrees higher than the BBC forecasts all week. Last night should of dropped to -2 but only got down to +0.3 IMBY. Im worried about the 2m Temps for this event. Im sure snow will fall but could take a while before anything settles away from cars, grass and roof tops. Thats just my feeling, not from a model or chart. Just dont think it will be cold enough for the type of snow people are expecting (unless you live high up)

BBC graphics updated for my village Yatton, now to heavy snow, but an increase in temps from 1 to 2. In heavy snow showers the temperature drops anyway (i think?)

Weston is the warmest place in North Somerset in the Winter! Many times my Father has travelled from Yatton with minus temperatures and frost/snow to find wet old weston! But not so long ago I remember that streamer from Wales which gave a good few inches and a mile either side of Weston saw nothing. Lots to play for...being near the coast will increase the temps a little for sure.

Cannot beleave you just posted that......never heard such a ramp for the SW! Now Im worried.....haha.

Its playing with -5 850 line again, pushing it out east faster.

I say, lets get some snow on the ground Friday in the region and get the surface temps right down for some interesting overnight low temperatures.

Looking for some consistancy of lower temperatures IMBY today and tomorrow. Yesterday hit 4.1 and last night minimum of -1.8 (not that cold for a cold spell!) Hopefully no higher than 3 today. Just looking for some confidence regarding Fridays possible event for North Somerset. Could be very slushy Friday a low levels.
