Paul- you know sleet was a wind up-
the chance of sleet is currently along a line west of london curve sse away down to west sussex where the slightly milder air bends on the curvature of the isolines-
essex / suffolk all fine, kent fine, surrey/hampshire/west london etc possibly borderline
S
So west Sussex will not get any snow.?
-
the mettoffice do get a lot of stick from people so the dont want to end up with egg on their faces.
-
Its quite clear the metoffice are trying to cover all bases. maybe im missing something as am a new guy but surly all the signs are pointing to us getting hamered. its so confusing.
-
for west sussex in my neck of the wood bbc showing snow from 5am mon to 9pm tuesday then snow on thursday night.

how well cold west susex do?

Some folks are getting hung up on the 'ppn type' charts which ALWAYS show the fringes of the snow transiting from rain to snow.
Don't get hung up on this, it is purely a graphical representation and does not depict what is likely to happen on those fringes.
The METO weather warnings quote 'An area of rain, sleet and hill snow spreading into northwestern Scotland by early Monday is expected to turn increasingly to snow to low levels as it moves southeastwards through the day.'
The keywords are: turning increasingly to snow to low levels as it moves southeastwards.
As the sinking low moves south, the ppn will pivot around the low. Expect the SE will see more snow as the LP track favours those areas. Kent, East Sussex, Essex, Suffolk, London, Herts could all get a pasting.
ffO.
how much do you reckon west sussex coud get?
-
Very good potential for heavy snow showers across the SE on Wednesday with some perhaps merging together for more prolonged snowfall. Essex, Kent and East Sussex in the firing line.
what about west sussex?
-
Yes, if that front stalls over the SE with those cold uppers moving in the ppn could well intensify for a few hours.
being in the south east. thats music to my ears
-
Looking at some of the snow charts somne has posted in the weather outlook, it shows very heavy snow for all south east from. On Monday to early hours of wednesday but metoffice and NBC are only showing light snow. Logic would suggest that the snow showers sweeping across the country we are in prime position

-
one thing I have learnt is too look at trends and I think they have been showing the snow for quite some time i tihink

In all honesty snow forecasting is impossible to gauge true depths until at least 12 hours away, It could down grade it could up grade. However 2010 (WOW) Very impressive. ATM i am over the moon as we are in lock down for 72 hours with great potential,Further on Wait till Sunday night. Personal prediction,We are in for a long haul with all the trimmings.
cheers mate. im so happy right now at the prospect of snow. looking over various weather websites and charts the consensus is heavy snow in south east every night from sunday/monday. dare i say it more accumulations then dec 2010. (whats life without dreaming ehh)
-
thanks to all those discussions im learning so much. im so interested in what causes various weather events.
-
evening all. i was wondering does anyone remember dec 2010 when in sussex we got something like a foot of snow in one night, could that possibly happen on monday night and tuesday night? the metoffice says significant accumulations but only 10 cm and 20 on higher ground
-
So where are we standing with snowfall? Anything changed in the last two hours?
-
That is the definition of a streamer, almost answered your own question lol
Lol hey seriously thanks for being patient. If that is a serous possibility wool hooo
-
Definite streamer potential for Sunday based on the NMM. This will be down to window-based nowcasting though...
What's a streamer? Oh and you know in America they get lake snow effect could that happen in uk with Thames?
-
Come on heavy snow Monday night, got a stupidly busy day at work on Tuesday and it would be oh so terrible, if I had to stay at home and play in the snow.
I know got presentations to do at school for coursework. Please let the whole week be a white out.
-
GFS - Very heavy snow monday night (i think) with the low not moving, then cold all week
We COULD get 10-15cm of snow monday COULD! All depends if the GFS is right
Cheers buddy what about the rest of the week

And also what's gonna hAppen? Cold throughout or cold then warm after a couple of days
-
Thank you surry and coast for your answer. I can only dream of getting amounts like in Dec 2010 but you never know
