Lets just hope for further n continuing upgrades for our region.....
it's alright a few of you in here suggesting snow showers further outlook n Ye that's great living at coast where you already have deep snow but not fir here in leeds. Would be so disappointing to come out of a significant cold spell without anything significant. -

I see no milder temperatures ,but it will certainly be very disappointing if we don't get a decent snow cover, kind of makes the cold useless.

It's just frustrating when you see potential so close to something extremely special just for it to be dashed. We Dnt want a snizzle return to milder temps with naff all. We would like a smashing like was shown and other areas will. Because on the face if it after this there's not much else promising.

Quick summary for Friday..
GFS says no snow at all.
ECM says snow, but not as heavy as further west.
GEM and UKMO both say hours of heavy snow.
Who will be right? The Met Office favour GFS I believe. Huge disagreement though.
Well the bbc charts are showing heavy snow. Moving north n east over yorkshire

Lost quite a bit of snow cover here, full cover in the back garden 5-7cm of snow.
Max of -0.6c, currently -1.5c
Where u situated. Am leeds- hoping we do! Charts look good for us n Hudson reckons disruption!
Not too sure how we'll do over the next seven days, I reckon this area may be just far enough west to catch some of the fronts pushing in.

Sorry everyone for my uncharacteristic pessimism. Just feeling a tad frustrated as I look outside to the half green half white landscape, reading how much snow there is in Norfolk, and how we're likely to miss the heaviest snowfall once more.
It's only the weather, right? I think we may be getting our just desserts after having more snow than other places throughout the last decade.
You telling me were not due any at weekend. That wud be a shambles!

The evidence doesn't really bear that out- it wasn't generally cold enough for snow prior to the widespread snowfalls of the 17th/18th December 2009, or the ones that hit E Scotland and NE England on the 25th/26th November 2010.
The main issue is rather that a thin, patchy snow cover is far more prone to thawing in sunshine and/or temperatures slightly above freezing than a deep and full snow cover- this is due to surface albedo as a deep/full snow cover strongly reflects heat, especially solar energy. Here at Sandhutton I'm seeing the same issue although most grassy surfaces are holding onto a couple of centimetres.
Fantastic explanation. Just what I thought. Still decent enough coverage on grass n hedges, just a shame that hour or so of 1.6c did some damage. Temp since dropped down to 0.4c hoping for weekend.

Well I would definitely take the latest gfs run. Yorkshire would have mega snow!! Temp at 1.2c now.

Yep they said sub zero away from twns but that is incorrect as its 1.1c here now. The half decent covering thawing now!!

Explains it all high up on moors lol. We're at 150m but sunny and 1c! Too high temp
reckon it will level at 2c which will thaw snow cover . Hope something special happens this weekend -
