  1. Torrential rain in Southampton. Seen and heard 1 bout of thunder and lightning
  2. Got a relative humidity of 24% right now with a temperature of 7.3C and a dew point of -12.0C! Sunny now as it was this morning but for a couple of hours this afternoon there were a couple of heavy hail showers.
  3. Got up at 7.15 and it was raining. Over the next half an hour the rain gradually turned to sleet and then heavy snow. During the heavy snow, the temperature was 0.8C. That lasted just over an hour but it never looked like lying. The snow then turned lighter and it turned back to sleet as the temperature rose to 1.1C and it's now been like that for the last 45 minutes. A bit underwhelming given how heavy the snow was at around 8am.
  4. I'll very surprised to get any lying snow in Grangemouth. Will probably start off as heavy rain early on Wednesday night then gradually turn to sleet and wet snow later in the night and Thursday morning but will struggle to ly here
  5. Take a look at @BigJoeBastardi's Tweet: He can go a bit over the top but can't remember him posting about Scotland too much.
  6. Not sure what it's like across the rest of the country but here it is quite different from what was forecast. It was meant to stay cloudy with the temperature gradually increasing through this evening but it's been clear for the last 2 or 3 hours and that has allowed the temperature to plummet to 0.3C. In fact, the BBC website still says it should be 4C just now and that that should be the minimum, although it has changed its forecast to clear skies for the next couple of hours.
  7. http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ Is it just me that thinks the main band is a bit further west than was forecast? Could be good news for areas slightly further west in the central belt as long as the hills don't kill it, which they probably will, although like I said earlier a much smaller band managed to make its way through to here. Having said that though, after the snow shower earlier, the temperature dropped back to -0.8C, but now its risen again to -0.1C and the wind is increasing. Would be good to get a persistent band of snow with no marginality whatsoever.
  8. It was dry & clear with the temperature dropping to -1.3C but it has risen to -0.2C now as a fairly heavy snow shower has got going. Wasn't really expecting any more here. And given that this small band of snow has managed to move southwards over the Highlands into the middle of the central belt here in Grangemouth, does that not suggest that the more organised band overnight could do the same? I've watched many forecasts over the last couple of days and the only two that have mentioned it as a possibility was Christopher Blanchett at tea time yesterday and Sean Batty at tea time today although he said it would just be bits of snow breaking off the main band.
  9. I love it when I'm wrong. Heaviest snow shower yet right now and it's starting to lie
  10. Think there was a couple of snow showers during the night but didn't really lie although it was icy. Then had a snow shower just after 8 which gave a very slight dusting but that was gone by half 10. Another snow shower has just started now but the flakes are very small as they have been for all the showers that I've seen, so they have obviously weakened a lot as they have pushed west. Think this might be the last one of the day too before the wind turns more northerly and I get sheltered from the showers. Is there anyone near Clydebank who can tell me what it is like there? I have a a football match there on Saturday on grass and have a feeling it will be off
  11. A maximum of 1.4C yesterday and a minimum of -5.0C last night. Currently -4.6C and sunny
  12. I think the showers died away overnight but it became icy with a low of -0.7C. Had still only reached 0.0C when I left the house at half 9. Lovely clear, cold sunny morning.
  13. Pictures of the super moon last night when the skies cleared. The last one was taken from behind a window which is why there is a fainter moon beside the real thing.
  14. There was also a minimum of -2.5C in Grangemouth. I love cold, sunny, frosty mornings, although high cloud spreading in from the West.
  15. Sleety rain in Grangemouth too although it is mainly rain. Temp is 3.0C now and dropped from 3.7C in the last hour. Dew point is -1.0C. And the warning light to change the battery in my weather station is on. Won't be doing that tonight!
  16. Last night was not as cold as I that was going to be. A couple of days ago -2 was predicted for last night, but it was much cloudier than forecast and so only dropped to 0.7C. And now looking at the forecast today, the max according to the BBC is 5C for here when yesterday it was showing 3C. So I think last night not be as cold across some central areas will mean less surface cold than thought and with uppers not looking that great, I think it's doubtful that sea level will see any snow. Having said that, Carol Kirkwood kept saying this morning that after rain turns to snow on high ground this afternoon, tonight the rain "will" turn to snow at lower levels in the central lowlands with the western side if the central belt seeing the most. So who knows, but Grangemouth and Falkirk are usually the last place on the list for snow in marginal situations, and with the temperature slightly higher than was originally forecast, I think I'll be lucky to see sleet.
  17. Had a max of 27.8C here yesterday. Beautiful when the sun was out but there was a lot of cumulus and stratocumulus cloud from about 11am until 4pm and to be honest there was probably more cloud than sun during that time. Had a low of 16.8C last night and got up about an hour ago which I think is when we started to have some thunder and lightning although not very frequent. Think it's been raining for a while. But from the radar it looks like we're about to get a torrential line of rain and the sky to the south is looking black. Didn't think it could get any darker than it already was but it is
  18. My weather station is currently recording 14.1C here in Grangemouth. What is the temperature like in areas near here.
  19. I've got a maximum of 10.3C in Grangemouth after a sunny afternoon. Can people near Grangemouth or anywhere else in the central belt who had a mostly sunny afternoon tell me what your maxes were because I've got a feeling that as the sun gets higher, my temps when it's sunny are going too high again despite me finding a more sheltered place for my weather station
  20. This is going to be a disappointment for a lot of people I think. That thick band of precipitation went to the north of here and rapidly reduced in size. The showers out to the west that did look heavy are already showing signs of breaking down before reaching Glasgow. There may have been a shower here between 8 and 10 when I had football training but except for that it's been dry here since about 5 or 6 and looks like staying that way
  21. Had a Max of 5.3C yesterday and then a minimum of 0.2C overnight. The last 24 hours have been dry, calm and cloudy
  22. Had a minimum of -3.2C last night and it looks as if there was more cloud than was expected as there has been this morning. Was expecting it to be a sunny morning but then for cloud to build through the day but it started cloudy in Grangemouth early this morning and it's been cloudy all morning in Edinburgh although it hasn't been dull.
  23. Temp dropped to -1.0C but now believe it or not a breeze has picked up and it's back up to -0.6C. So it's not been a completely calm night or clear night, never mind both. Probably not going to get to -4.7C now
  24. My hope of a totally clear and calm night is gone. Got down to around 0C at about 7.15pm and then cloud came in and stopped the temperature from dropping any further. In the last half an hour the skies have cleared and it's down to -0.8C now.
