  1. Northern Strath and Snowy Owl, builders are here just now but we know the roof won't be finished today and definitely not tomorrow! Let's just hope that the work that they've done holds out and that what's left doesn't suffer too much from Gertrude's bashing! I'd better get some batteries charged just in case!
  2. We had a dry night here ( yay! ) and woke to light cloud and temp of 4c. Then the sky cleared ( yay! ) and we had blue sky for all of 30 minutes. Then it rained and has been going strong ever since. Nothing like yesterday thankfully, but I've forgotten what a whole dry day feels like. Builders fairly cracking on now, hopefully the roof will be finished by the weekend and we can move back into our bedroom. Everywhere just feels so damp, roll on having the central heating back on!
  3. Horizontal rain this morning and we had to make a trip into Portree. We had a loch in place of a front garden which has now thankfully disappeared. Rather breezy, but rain calming down. Builder still on roof hammering away for all he's worth. Discovered some new drips this morning, rain just sheeting in and I'm fast running out of pots and pans and dry towels! Is Friday going to be as bad as some forecasts are saying? Met Office only has a rain warning out but according to one forecast we could hit 82mph early Friday morning. That's well dodgy and off course I'm rather concerned that the roof may not bold up to a battering like that!
  4. Calm here now although still raining. And the builders have turned up! Can you believe it? Hammering going on just now. I know they won't finish tiling the roof today but even if they get something done that's a bonus! More pots and pans out to catch ever more drips coming through!
  5. Morning all! A nice breezy start go the day, very mild at 14c. I don't see the builder getting much work done on our roof today, or even this week. Friday looks like it'll be a bit of a gfuqhgfpjh. I can see our roof taking off and ending up in Raasay if those winds come off!
  6. I sincerely hope this downgrades. I'm supposed to be heading to Stirling on Friday/Saturday but if that comes to pass I won't be going anywhere!
  7. Afternoon all! Raining and breezy again today, but thankfully not much rain came in last night, a little, but not nearly as bad as the night before. The week looks horrendous with more horizontal stuff heading our way. I really can't see the builder being able to get much work done on the roof this week. Not a lot anyone can do about it I know, but just a couple of dry days would make a huge difference. We are still camping in the sitting room, praise be for sofa beds! I don't know what we would have done if we didn't have that to fall back on....literally!
  8. Well HC, he wasn't really familiar with my particular neck of the woods! Where the wind doth blow stronger than in other parts of the island, depending on which direction it's coming from! All calm now, betting ready for the next blast!
  9. Thankfully it has stopped raining now! There's even a touch of blue sky too! Builder came pretty pronto and did a repair job. I think he was quite surprised at the mayhem caused, he had to go looking for his ladders which had blown away! Hopefully the repair work will hold until he comes back tomorrow and that the wind and rain won't be so intense tonight. I've covered all the bedroom furniture with a huge plastic hap and mopped up the drips. I'm leaving the pots, pans and casserole dishes in place tonight just in case! Glad it's mild, but would be happier if it was just dry!
  10. Damage pretty bad in bedroom I'm afraid. More water than we thought pouring through the cheap panelling and now dripping through to our sitting room. Phoned builder, someone coming over asap to see what can be done. Still too dark outside to see what the roof is like. Big bits of wood and roof tiles scattered near the window that I can see.
  11. Oh my! Roof taking a battering now! All roof tiles removed and a new membrane put on. A few tiles and lots of nails to keep it in place until all roof tiles replaced. Strong winds and horizontal rain threatening to rip the membrane off as we have rain jaffa cakesing into our bedroom. Not good to be wakenedby rain drip, drip dripping onto your head! Moved the bed already to avoid the worst of the drips, builder will have to get out here tomorrow to secure it all! Lot's of weebpots and pans out to catch the drips! At three in the morning this is not conducive to a good night's sleep! OK, I am now typing this from the comfort of our bed settee. What started out as a wee drip turned into lots and lots of big ones! Pots, pans, bowls and basins were called up for drip catching duty and the OH brought a huge hap in from the garage to cover the bed and as much of everything else as he could. Towels are covering anything else. Call to the builder first thing to see what he can do. Sleep tight all!
  12. Still nae snaw, still cauld but sky now clearing. Temp currently 3.7c. Mild coming back by the end of the week by the looks of things. Yuck!!! Hate, hate , hate mild and claggy/rainy/dreich stuff!
  13. Pram now empty of toys. Yesterday a mere flurry of the white stuff followed by light rain. Temp hardly got above 2c. House is like an icebox as no central heating! Builders are in after Frankie's visit and radiators have been removed in some rooms. Stove on in kitchen, going like a wee train, fire on in sitting room, tiny fan heater for anywhere else. Cloudy and cold this morning currently 3.4c. Not expecting any more white stuff so shouldn't be too disappointed today! Stay warm folks!
  14. Mornin' snaw hunters! Dinnae bother comin' up here if you're lookin' for some o' the white stuff! Not a flake has fallen but maybe later on as it is beginning to cloud over now. And it's gey snell tae!
  15. Afternoon all! Yesterday, Baltic, clear, sunny, tiny wee shower of graupelly stuff. Today, light cloud, a wee touch of rain and Baltic! Seems that even Skye will get a touch of snow over the weekend. We'll see!
  16. And we have just had our first snowfall of this year folks! A tiny dusting, barely a millimetre if we're lucky, but nevertheless, it's snow!
  17. The usual for Skye, nae snaw! Very cold though and we did have some lovely crisp sunshine in Portree, which also had a teensy covering of graupelly stuff. I'm not hoping for much more than that so I won't be too disappointed. Bad news is a neighbours dog got loose and headed into our garden. We are now down one chicken and I hope the neighbour will be understanding in the compensation department! I've made sure our remaining chook is tucked up in her hut. The ducks are another matter as they are not keen on going into their hut preferring to stay outside at night. The dog was eyeing them up too. The OH is currently dragging said dog home on a rope. Watch this space.
  18. So, all day both weather stations were showing big, smiley sun symbols. They lied I tell you, they lied! Been raining here all day and cauld intae the bargain. Needless to say there's nae snaw on the horizon, but I'd sure love the rain to stop and just give us a few more dry days! After the beast that was Frank left a bit of destruction in his wake, the builder arrived today and started to strip all the old wood panelling out of the affected room. It didn't take him too long and hopefully tomorrow he'll make a start on the roof. At least if that can be made wind and watertight before the next drenching that'll be a plus. This is why I'm praying for some dry weather!
  19. Rain yesterday, rain today! I'm not that disappointed as I wasn't expecting any snow anyway, but the frosty day we had on Saturday was lovely! More please!
  20. Afternoon Peeps! Nae snaw, nae rain, nice and cauld and fresh. Temp dropped to -2c last night, now up to 2c with light cloud cover. Give me this weather any day over a howling gale and horizontal rain and I'll be very happy!
  21. Rain stopped, skies clearing, temp currently 3.6c. Very nice out there just now. Bring on the cauld!
  22. Aye Ed, that would be on my little patch of Tartanville! It rarely snows here, so if we see any of the white stuff where I am, I'll be nothing short of amazed!
  23. Well, if snow is forecast I can guarantee it won't fall here! Don't mind a nice bit of frost and sunshine though, I'd be happy with that!
  24. Morning Peeps! Cloudy and cool here this morning, currently 3.9c. It crept down to 2.6 last night and I welcome the cold after all the howling gales and rain.
  25. Well Nut, you are absolutely right about it turning colder! We are down to 3.7 up here with clear blue skies! Can't remember the last time I saw a sky like that in Skye! It also looks like we are in for a spell of settled weather into next week too.....it's so welcome! I'm not really bothered if we get snow, just to have calm, clear days with white frost will suit me very well indeed!
