  1. Dreich, dreich, dreich! Can hardly see anything through the murk. Temp 13.5c and light rain. Doesn't look like a huge improvement is on the way either. Ach well, a few drams should cheer me up! Slainte!
  2. Back to the dreich midge fest that is Summer on Skye! This year 's batch is particularly vicious and they are having an absolute feast on the towrists. Not nearly enough of a breeze to send the wee buggers to ground, this is just perfect for them! A lady towrist asked me the other day where was the best place to go in Skye to avoid the midges..... my reply..... nowhere! Underground might do the trick, but other wise wear a full midge suit and drink whisky. Works fine for me!
  3. I melts I does! Currently 22c up here and waaaaaaay too hot for me! Spent last week in Orkney, first weekend was sunny and, by Orkney standards, warm! Clouded over for the rest of the week and by Thursday we had rain and a wee breeze. Come Saturday the cloud disappeared, off course it did, we were going home! Back home to Scorchio and getting hotter daily. A few degrees drop in temp I could handle, and a nice wee breeze to keep the midges at bay wouldn't go amiss either! However, I know that some peeps on here are real sun worshippers, so you guys go and have a wee sunbathing session, I'll stay indoors where it's nice and cool! Enjoy!
  4. About three inches of snow yesterday, thankfully it didn't lie in my area, but there wasa covering on the roads further south.Disappeared overnight ,back to breezy, light showers and ffffffffreezing! Lovely sunshine too,so I'm not complaining!
  5. It's all white out there!!! Not a lot, just a wee dusting but it does look very pretty. I daresay it'll be gone soon, so nice to see it while it's here!
  6. Drove through a blizzard to get to work, all morning sleet, hail, snow, rain and wind. Now.....bluest of blue skies and sunshiny! Be nice if it wasn't so damned cauld!
  7. Mornin' all! Well slap ma face, we had a wee snow shower about half an hour ago! I doubt very much we'll see any more though. Cloudy and cool again today, so best get the washing oot while the going's good!
  8. Morning all! It's been a few weeks since I've been on here, been away visiting family and now that the builders have gone we've been cracking on with the decorating. We have a shiny new roof at the back f the house and a warm, draught free bedroom, new flooring arrives next week and we should hopefully be able to move into it by next weekend. Then we start ripping apart the other bedroom! The good thing is all the old wood panelling that was removed is being recycled in our fire! Waste not want not! Cool today at 3.5c, cloudy with light showers.
  9. Afternoon folks! Nae snaw up here, lots of frost which made everything look nice and sparkly! Pretty nippy too, temp down to -2.2c on Sunday morning, and the OH tells me it was -3c early this morning. But, off course, nothing good lasts forever and we are back to the usual p*sh tomorrow! Ach well, it was good while it lasted!
  10. It was a wee bit nippy this morning, temp having gone down to 1c around about 6am. Clouded over and any frost disappeared pretty quickly. The rest of the week looks to be calm, cold and frosty with no snow in sight for this area. TBH I'm not that bothered about it, I'm happy with dry and cold! For those who do get some of the white stuff, enjoy!
  11. Afternoon all! Well, we're now starting to see the sun here again which is always welcome! We had a wee touch of rain and sleet earlier on too. Definitely colder though and it looks like the next few days are going to be stoatirs! Bring it on!
  12. Now there's an interesting looking chart! Even Skye may get a wee touch o'the white stuff! Morning Peeps, from dare I say it, a wind and rain free Skye! For once the weather gods and goddesses are smiling on us! It's clear and cold with blue skies and tiny wispy clouds. I think the sun may even show his face today, however brief his visit, and will be very welcome! I may even go out and spend some time soaking up some vitamin D! Temp is currently 0.2c or 2.8c depending on which weather station I read! And ( whisper it! )we now have a drip free roof! Builders just have a few wee things to finish off up there and then they'll get stuck in aboot the room. Then I'll hopefully get the central heating on this week 'cos I think I'm really going to need it!
  13. Thanks for the offer, but kids don't agree with me. I get terrible indigestion after I've eaten even just a wee one! Blawin' a wee bit up here this morning, temp 9cc, horizontal rain. It's like a rinse and repeat programme!
  14. Morning all! Dreich is the best way I can describe todays pathetic offering. Everything feels so damp so I've lit the fire early. Off to make some soup, bread baking away as I type. Current temp is 7.5 but it feels much colder.
  15. Went out with a friend doggy walking, returned to the most beautiful sound of tap, tap, tap. That would be roof tiles being hammered into place! Wonderful! A lovely calm and cold day here, currently 5.1c. Normal service resumes tomorrow, wet and a wee breeze.
  16. Morning Peeps! Henry blew and blew but he couldnae knock out our power! I believe he took out a few trees further south on the island though. Haven't been outside yet to see if there's any damage. No power on Raasay so the local hotel is giving everyone breakfast! Nice! I believe that some areas of Skye could be without power but we are fine here. Biggest gust in our village was 72mph. And breathe......
  17. I have no idea why that my last post came up as a quote from peborant! Things are beginning to fly about outside now, lots of rumblings and clunkings! I wonder what we'll find around the garden tomorrow!
  18. Getting really wound up out there just now! Amazingly I'm not recording any massive speeds on the weather station, biggest gust a wee while ago was 40.9 mph. I daresay that won't be the highest overnight. Stay safe everyone!
  19. Yep, my own thoughts exactly! Getting very blustery here and we had a wee gust of 47mph at 4am this morning. The worst is yet to come to stay safe ower the water!
  20. Getting very blustery out there now. We had a 47mph gust about 4am this morning. I think this one might be a bit of a belter, much worse that Gertie. Quite worrying. Temp has dropped now to 5.5c, pressure is 985. Haud oan tae yer hats folks!
  21. Horizontal rain here, not that I'm bothered too much about snaw! I'd rather the wind and rain would just stop for say, a week or so and give us some calm! Not a lot to ask is it/ temp is currently 3.4c bitingly cold. I'm sure I heard a rumble of thunder during the night too!
  22. Biggest gust in our village was a mere 72mph. One tiny power failure early in the morning, off, then back on again, so I really can't complain! All calm here now, there's even some blue sky! Turned very cold, 3.5c,sleet and rain showers. I would not like to be in Shetland right now, I hope everyone up there stays safe!
  23. Well, she passed over us and we were unscathed! Still a few drips here and there but nothing we can't deal with, so we got off lightly. I would not like to be in Shetland right now. That's what I call baaaaaaad! Stay safe all in Shetland! Stay in, don't go out, coorie doon wi' a large dram! Turning very cold now, temp down to 3.5, very chilly wind, sleet and rain. I see we have a wee respite over the weekend.....then BOOM! Back to normal. And off course, our builder is supposed to be coming back on Monday! We'll see, we'll see!
  24. And if she turns out to be as fierce as predicted it'll be another insurance claim for me! The builders are currently on my roof repairing the damage that Frankie boy caused just after Christmas. I hope all their hard work isn't undone by Gertie!
