  1. Well, for some strange reason we haven't had rain for two whole days! Now there's something very wrong there! I see that Aberdeenshire is taking a soaking, things not looking good for Aberdalgie Castle though. I'd hate to lose my home like that, you have to feel sorry for the folks who live there. Love that chart Edo, I pray it will come to pass!!
  2. A very good morning to all and a Happy New Year too! Nae snaw here, we had some hailstones last night and a lovely Aurora. A week bit blustery but sky clearing. I feel a long walk coming on followed by a continued and sustained attack on the bottle of Aberlour brought up by my sister. No first foot yet, later on today perhaps and then the steak pie is for it! Have a great day and an even better year, and here's hoping for some more cracking weather chat on this thread!
  3. 89.5 mm of rain fallen here in the last 24 hours. High wind speed in one part of Skye 98.8 mph. Not so windy where I am but Frankie did a good bit of damage when he whipped off a load of roof tiles exposing one of our rooms to daylight and heaps of rain. The OH currently atop a ladder affecting a temporary repair with Sterling Board and roof felt. Insurance company contacted, builder been to have a look see and he's returning on Monday. Looks like I'll be a fairly big job. We'll see. Our internet just came back on a wee while ago but we didn't have any power cuts. I'm thankful for small mercies.
  4. Wind now howling around the house and what sounds like gravel being flung against the window, although I know it is really just rain. Highest gust so far 43.6mph. Worse to come???
  5. Starting to get breezy here now. To those in the most likely affected areas....hope you've all got everything tied down! I was out earlier weighting stuff down with boulders, so there may not be too many flying objects later on!
  6. Couldn't agree more! It's already started to get a wee bit breezy oot there, had to hold the roof of the hen hut on whilst I was giving it a guid clean oot! I've been out putting boulders in buckets and just moving stuff that I know will take off when the big gusts come. Can't really do more than that. So now we just sit and wait and hope it isn't going to be as bad as predicted. Stay safe everyone!
  7. I see from Stormeh's chart that the snaw shields will be well and truly in place over Skye for the arrival for the white stuff. So no surprise there then! Today is cool at 4.3c, calm and cloudy, literally the calm before the inevitable. Hope everyone stays safe and that not too much damage is done!
  8. Aye, his wee brother Finlay has popped over to Skye for the day and has been blasting away quite happily! Nothing as major as tomorrow's blast, but stuff has been flying around the garden today. I'll tie everything down tomorrow morning and hope we get a downgrade. ( I live in hope! )
  9. Morning Peeps! It's a tad breezy oot there the noo, but thankfully no rain! Don't know how long that'll last for though! Ferry cancelled at the moment but I can see one of the local fish farm boats out there braving the elements. Rather them than me although I reckon it won't be too long before they're back in port too. I'm keeping a close eye on the forecast for Tuesday night an Wednesday morning as I'm expecting a visit from family over the New Year and there's every possibility that the bridge may close meaning they could be delayed. In the meantime I'll do my usual checks of candle and tealight supplies, charge batteries and trim oil lamp wicks. I'll head into Portree tomorrow to pick up necessities for Ne'er Day and then sit by the fire for the rest of the day. Sorted! And as I gaze oot ra windae I see that the fish farm boats have returned to base! Sensible Laddies!
  10. Morning Peeps! Calm, cool and cloudy up here. Temp 3.2, pressure 1008. Skies slowly clearing and it promises to be a very pleasant day. I'd best make the most of it as midweek looks like pure pants!
  11. Oh dear SW Saltire! I hope it isn't off for too long. Nothing worse than being without light and heat. We take our leccy so much for granted and it is such a pain to be without it. Wherever you are I hope you find some warmth and are safe!
  12. Morning all! And how many off us have nippy heids the day then? I was the very model of sobriety masel. And if you believe that you'll believe in a fat man in a red suit riding a sleigh across the sky! Breezy but cool here with a brisk easterly, temp 5.4c and cloudy. I'm keeping an eye on the charts for next week as it looks like we're in for another battering. I hope it seriously downgrades. Winds of up to 83mph are not to be treated lightly.
  13. I'd prefer something a bit less fierce personally, but hey, we're in the hands of the weather Gods. It won't be the first time we've had these kind of conditions up here and it probably won't be the last, but I'all hope for a downgrade anyway!
  14. Absolutely stuffed as a wee puggie noo! Just returned from a wee moonlit walk oot there. Just gorgeous, and am making the most of these conditions as the coming week looks like pure mince! Time to seriously batten doon everything and charge up all the batteries! Hope everyone is now well and truly fu' o' Christmas cheer! HIC!
  15. Good morning and a very Merry Christmas to one and all from a very green Skye! Temp 3.1c, cloudy with light rain. Large fat geezer in red suit arrived on time and was very generous with gifts, especially in the booze dept! Gin and one of my fave drams Highland Park were to be found amongst the scrunched up piles of Christmas paper. Hope everyone gets all they wish for today...that would off course include SNAW! Have a blast everyone!
  16. Another rainy morning here, cauld though at 4.3c. Storm Eva arrived, burped and went on her way again. Bit of a non event really. Going to be a very damp holiday season up here, with perhaps the merest dusting of white on the mountain tops. Enjoy the festivities wherever you are, and hopefully someone, somewhere will get some snaw!
  17. Arrived home yesterday after a long weekend visiting family in the Wee County. It was ridiculously warm, 14.5c up to 15c and so warm at night the duvet was flung off the bed with astounding regularity! That's not normal for December. And I see wee have a return to the wet and windy routine Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Aye, I'd miss it if we had sunny, calm and cold weather in winter! One lives in hope.....
  18. Well stone the crows! It's currently 11.2c up here, warmer outside than in! Calm with a wee bit o' drizzle. Hardly anything to get excited about for those who love the cauld!
  19. Mornin' Campers! Lovely, clear morning here, temp 4c, pressure 1012. Long may it continue!
  20. Minimum temp last night was -0.8c. There was a crystal clear sky at 10.30 last night, didn't see any Geminids though. Perhaps if I'd stayed out longer I may have been lucky, but it was too cauld! Temp currently 2.1c, light cloud, pressure 1004. I'd love this weather to continue....fat chance!
  21. A wee bit nippy this morning, currently -0.2c, light cloud and very calm. Nice for some doggie walking this afternoon!
  22. Currently 4.4c, dry and skies clearing. No wind, or at least, very little wind! Just for a change! Snow on hills behind the house. We had hail and sleet earlier on so it almost looked like a snowfall. Clearer and drier over the weekend I believe....I hope!
  23. Rainfall totals at 5pm yesterday...76.3mm. That was more than Friday's drenching. Today a massive drop in temperature, down to 3.2c accompanied by hail and sleet. I even saw a patch or two of blue sky in Portree! Best not get to excited at the thought of some calm weather coming in, eh?
  24. Morning all! Yet another mild and blustery night. Temps reached the dizzy heights of 14.8c yesterday, rain was a measly 18mm, Max wind speed 48.8mph. Those figures may well be topped sometime this week, but it looks like a change on the way for the weekend, not before time. Getting a wee bit fed up of horizontal rain!
  25. Exceptionally mild up here, max temp so far is 13.8c. A bit breezy too, and surprise!!! Rain!!! And we have have finally got the central heating working! Yes, I know I've said this before and the it went belly up again, but we've had heat through the rest of the house for two whole days! We've replaced a valve, thermostat, time clock and finally the pump and serviced the boiler by giving it a damned good clean! Sorted! Happy girl!!
