  1. There we have it. Another pronounced El Nino effect in Central/Eastern Equitoral Pacific. More pronounced than 2009/10. More than 85% chance of lasting through the winter of 2015/16. A repeat of 09/10 means only one thing , cold. In full effect now with the NW of USA plus British Columbia getting drought and heat with the rain belt further south. Over in Europe the chill remains in NW Europe, notice the N. Atlantic anomaly chart. Looks like Iberia will get the heat and drought with a reversal effect come winter as Cold block near to the British Isles will sent the jet south.attachicon.gifsea analomy.gif

    Hi Carinthian,

That almost sounds like the earliest winter ramp EVER.

  2. There are barely any signs of it though...only the odd GFS run is showing it in FI. This happens every year in this thread- people see the slightest hint of a Greenland high in FI and there are fears of a 2007 repeat. Northern blocking just hasn't happened for any length of time for several summer nows.

Indeed Scorcher...FI is FI ...and that doesn't matter which side of the debate we come from...or what season we are talking about.

Of course, just because it hasn't happened for several summers , it doesn't mean it won't happen this Summer

  3. Hi Folks, quick message to thank you all for your best wishes for young Dr (s) no.....

Fortunately he has managed to progress well...the boy is a true fighter!!

So now it's onwards to the specialist down south ..

It's quite scary to think what he and his team may come up with but whatever it is I know he'll deal with it....and so will we.

    Thanks again

  4. Hi folks...

It never rains but it pours.....and unfortunately I'm not talking about the weather.

Young Dr(s)No went in for scopes today before we go to a hospital down south for specialist help on his condition.

Although initially they've gone well ...he's ended up with really bad bleeding and,to cap it off, he's ended up being sick( first time in months!!) and it looks as though the scope may have flared up his gut!! Unbelievable!!

Now looks like he may not be able to go to the specialist after all and a postponement looks odds on..

Apologies for the non weather related post....but hey , it's good to talk

If you you can spare a thought for the wee man it would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

    DR(S) NO

  5. Been watching the latest video from gavin partridge and if jma and cfs are to be trusted middle of may onwards looks very respectable indeed with the jet stream migrating northwards inviting high pressure and much warmer conditions ahead. I checked the cfs myself and it looks like a dead cert to move further north albeit maybe a more efficient change to a northerly tracking jet pattern.

Read that myself PJ and it certainly sounds promising ..

However not so sure the words " dead cert" and Cfs should ever be used in the same sentence

  6. Perhaps a last gasp of Winter in the next week or so.

Although why anyone would wish for cold and wet,I don't know.

But definitely something here that would concern the gardeners .

AND HC Id consider protecting those plums😜

  7. Hi folks...hope all are well.

Another beautiful morning......seems I've seen far more frost this March than the whole of Winter 13/14..

Talking of Winter...there was a snowplough on the go down here last night.

    Have I missed something?

  8. Oooff, what a bloomin miserable day.

Blinking freezing this morning ....only 2 c on the way into town at 10.30 and passed cars with snow on them co in from upper Helensburgh!!

Heavy rain has been the order of the day and now very gusty winds ......and surprise!? Our trains are off as usual.

Take care peeps further North....hope you all keep safe.

  9. Hi guys...what a simply stunning photo on Cheggars post earlier.....the sunset last night as I walked home from work had me standing looking in awe of Mother Nature ...truly beautiful. Unfortunately I only had my iPad to hand so my pictures are not up to the standard of some others I've seen.

Interestingly my paper had a column today promising a big freeze for Valentines Day and Scotland having the coldest February for 5 years?? Really...have I misread the charts for this week?

Looking quite cloudy this week for the most part...

  10. It looks as though the next week or so should be quite useable.....some wintery showers around the periphery of the country ......perhaps some activity early Tuesday morning....but predominantly dry for most,I think.

Question is will we see some good winter sunshine?

Certainly the first week of February promises plenty of sharp, frosty mornings...nice and seasonal.

I've decided I don't mind scraping the car window........crazy really😜....but last winter ?? I only scraped the car twice in November 2013!?

  11. The good news short term is that the cold air comes back much quicker on the 12Z GFS, pretty much non-marginal by 9am tomorrow:h850t850eu.png

Possible snow getting into the Lothians and Borders tomorrow evening but more widely the risk on Monday night is increased on this run from this 'wave' feature (note the -10C uppers hanging around as well by this time, and these are there through Sunday too):

    h850t850eu.pngprectypeuktopo.pngprectypeuktopo.png

precip totals amounting to 2-3 inches quite widely over 6 hours. Subject to change of course, but that's a very promising run.

    Right....that's it....

I'm booking time off Tuesday Morning....AND I'm wrapping DR(S)NO Junior in bubble wrap...if that Snowman Build ever comes to pass.....

Rest assured you'll see it here first⛄ï¸

  12. Cheers Dr I needed that motivational post :) did the wee man get a chance to make a snowman?

I see we now have a warning for snow on Tuesday and this is Friday so they must be thinking that has potential to become a significant feature...I have seen many features throwing up for the 3rd and 4th over many runs so maybe that will be something to keep a close eye on....

    That's the way....glass half full...and all that

Turns out that this area didn't get enough of an accumulation to build " the man".... And he'd also had a poor night so wouldn't have beenup for it?

SO , we move on to the next chance â„⛄ And my feeling is ..there will be more opportunities.

My dream would be for him to see one like March 2006....I think the snow that night was almost higher than him ....he would love that!!

  13. I am a very positive person but I am worried right now that we are not in the firing line for any of the charts......Im gonna have to get in the car for a sledging trip if this continues and i wish to avoid that.....cold wet kids on a journey home only leads to crankiness......keep hoping for the threats of an easterly to become reality.

I'd remain positive EDO......just looking at the figures towards the end of your post ,you can see how much better it us than the non existent winter of last year!!!

Just think of where we are now....and we've still got all of February and March( hopefully) for meaningful snow chancesâ„ï¸â„ï¸â„ï¸

  14. Well DR (s) No junior has been promised a snowman building opportunity tomorrow.....

Off school as he's still recoveringðŸ‘

A few more showers like tonights should suffice...

    So..come on snow ....LETSBEHAVINYA!!!!!!⛄ï¸â„ï¸â›„ï¸â„ï¸â›„ï¸â„ï¸â›„ï¸â„ï¸â›„ï¸â„ï¸â›„ï¸â„ï¸â›„ï¸â„ï¸

  15. After a spell if an hour or so of dry, bright weather ......the last 30 mins have resulted in the White stuff starting to lie on all areas.

Temp dropped to 2c with a DP of -1c

Here's hoping we all get to see some snow in the next week or so

    DR s ordersâ„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„â„⛄⛄⛄⛄⛄
