9 degrees outside! Let me say that again! 9 degrees outside. In heart of winter. Absolute joke.

Njoy. Lucky you because this endless borefest of a winter just keeps on going with no end in sight. And I’m just not talking about snow but anything remotely seasonal! We have had much better winters in the past without this much hyped SSW that’s seems to be the new buzz letters of the last few years! It’s utter nonsense. Give me cold zonality any day over this stupid chasing of the SSW that may not even deliver anyway. And to be honest it’s heading that way. Anyway rant over I’m away for a run in this dull, cloudy, miserable, generally mild excuse of a winter.

God wake me up in June! This winter is abysmal ! Boring the tics of me. Worst in a long time for anything remotely interesting. And all on the back of the best background signals ever.
-
In fairness the update is ok for us. We still have the chance of snow to lower levels from mid month. Yes it might not be snow nirvana just yet but it is way far more positive for us than those living in the south hence the meltdown and negative posts in mod thread. So in fairness it hasn’t changed much for us today bar a slight delayed to prolonged cold. It’s just basic winter weather for our region which I’m quite happy with. But I do agree with MS that the SSW is a load of tosh if u base all ur hopes on that. It won’t happen that way as it’s a big gamble and it’s not something I have ever had much faith in so I’m not to despondent

that update is a delay. Not looking good if u ask me,
-
Yep. Very little snow i reckon this winter. SSW is utter tosh if u ask me

outlook cert to change starting from today i think

Can not remember a worse winter for snow ever. Its also so boring and mild. Cant see it changing anytime soon. The one positive is that if nothing comes from this wonderous SSW then in future we can all forget about these background signals as they very rarely benefit our weather by all accounts

horrific charts. the worst iv seen for many a year and dont look like improving. Expect meto outlook to change to poss end of january cold. By then nights much longer and time running out. SSW my A*SE ! waste if time

Not really. There was hope of quick trop response which might have brought in the cold early in the New Year, unfortunately it does look more likely that we'll need to wait until mid January.
Then it wil be end of jan start of Feb! . What will be will be.

Good chart didn’t last to long MS. Ah well. The hunt for the needle in the haystack continues.

Yes. Decent GFS 12z. Very cold Easterly in by the start of the month then signs of a Scandi high retrogression to Greenland.
Cheers MS! Hope it doesn’t disappear like the Xmas charts! But small steps I guess

Have we a decent chart for once!

The Meto run only goes to Boxing Day, i wouldn't be expecting anything until early January and even that would be just be signs of a block moving North. Lets see what tonight's GFS and ECM bring.
Hopefully more cheer!

I didn’t think it was possible but charts are getting worse! Hopefully they all hit the drink over Xmas.
-
Same every year. I agree. Long range forecasts change daily. I pay no attention to them really.

I'm just waiting for the comment of "It was an amazing split in the stratospheric PV unfortunately one the lobes split over to Greenland and the trop PV mirrored the split resulting in mild South Westerlies........................and a bitterly cold Greece!
I would say that is the form horse. Unfortunately getting cold weather of any form in these shores is getting harder with every passing year.

They say the darkest hour is before dawn and that's exactly where we are with the trop. Model output.
I think we're still at least three to four weeks away from anything proper cold.
If we are lucky. Seriously if we don’t get cold from all these wonderful background signals I think we should all find a new hobby! Because signals this good do not come around very often! Next 3 weeks crucial for me in what way this winter turns out.
-
And the dire output continues. My word this is painful.

Each day long range meto update being watered down and delayed. Not a good sign if u ask me. Gone generally is the word snow to possible wintry weather. I think we will be here middle of Jan still waiting!

Another relatively poor day for cold model output ticks by.
We wait to see if the strat warming impacts favorably on the trop.
something has got to give or met office have got this horribly wrong. Just hoping they are seeing much better charts than we are as cold looks miles away to be honest!

Yea I'd be happy with northerly to north-easterly to easterly to north-easterly to northerly to north-westerly to northerly to north-easterly to easterly back to northerly to north-westerly to northerly to north-easterly then to an easterly that persist to end of March that's all..

Anybody getting the feeling we could go the whole winter without a dusting of snow. I am. And if we don’t get anything meaningful out of these great signals and SSW we can finally put this nonsense to bed once and for all in the years to comec
