  1. So does a lack of sunshine, cold and wet. Which the UK gets in far, far greater abundance than heat. Plus it’s September, it’s not going to feel anywhere near as warm as it would in June or July due to solar elevation.
  2. I agree, I like to blend the two, I acknowledge that say, temperatures were around average for the summer as a whole but the statistics won’t tell you that’s because of a lot of cloudy warm night, etc. Statistics and data are of obvious importance but they don’t account for human input/perception/feeling. Agree, a good analogy. But time to move on now, it’s meteorological autumn and this summer is over. Just like last summer
  3. I get what you’re saying and obviously have no issue with data and statistics. I’m also human with feelings however (which is the most important part of what makes us human), and not a robot. So to use another analogy. Imagine you want to buy a house, and you find the perfect house, at least on the Internet or on paper. Ticks all your required boxes. But then you get there, and you just don’t like it. There’s something that really isn’t doing it for you. Would you buy the house? I bet you wouldn’t. At this point your wife/partner is screaming at you, why don’t we buy it? What’s wrong with you? It’s perfect for our needs! Feels a bit like that on this forum sometimes.
  4. Millions have their holidays in late July and August because of schools, so it would have been perceived differently from families’ perspectives, I guess? If the summer had the nice weather and poor weather more equally spaced out then it probably would have improved perceptions too. As it happened, we had 3 weeks of excellent weather, 7 weeks of substandard, then 2 weeks of average. Just like many of my school reports, I’d say, “could do better”.
  5. Didn’t the stats say that July was quite poor in many respects, though?
  6. Nice if you don’t have to use roads, rail, or aircraft. Not great otherwise, I’ll always prefer January snow as it’s such a dreary month normally it needs something interesting
  7. So most areas have had below average sunshine in August.
  8. I’ve been back in west London since yesterday for a quick visit and it was quite unpleasant yesterday with grey skies and bits of drizzle, but this morning is grim and chucking it down quite heavily
  9. It does get a fair bit of mild-ish Atlantic grot, not as mild as London usually but I was surprised how windy it can get. Most of Czechia benefits from elevation which helps with snow
  10. Definitely! I’ve lived here since December 2018 and it’s snowed and settled multiple times every winter and often in spring too. It’s a much more interesting climate, I love it
  11. It does get hot but for a few days only, what I like is it’s generally always warm (above 20°C) by day and it’s not as cloudy in summer. Winters are dull but chilly with multiple snow falls and ice days.
  12. Dreadful, but we’ve had a few days like that this summer. Looking much better next week, thankfully
  13. For sure. You just can’t compare the summer storms, for one. We used to get them in London years ago but now it’s exceptionally boring in that regard. If the UK got the storms Central Europe does, this place would go into complete meltdown lol
  14. Summer scores are a bit more difficult for me as I spend time between the UK and Czechia. So I’ll rate both countries. Not completely fair as I wasn’t in either country for a whole month. UK (Ashford and Heathrow, both in west London) June - 8/10. Excellent first 3 weeks with lots of warm sunshine. Some claggy mornings and week 4 went downhill. July - 1/10. Grey, windy, often cool and wet. Vile. August - 5/10. Poor until mid-month, then a more settled spell with lovely warm sunshine. Let down by the last few days. Total - 14/30. Czechia (Nymburk, Central Bohemia) June - 9/10. A generally beautiful, warm, sunny month. Quite cool evenings and nights, though. July - 9/10. A couple of days of uncomfortable extreme heat, otherwise plenty of lovely weather with some impressive thunderstorms. August - 7/10 Plenty of generally warm sunshine and some more severe thunderstorms. A short unsettled cooler spell in week 3, then some days of very hot weather that wasn’t very pleasant. A chilly and very wet last few days, also unpleasant. Total - 25/30
  15. Yes I think in big city centres these tall buildings look really cool and interesting. They’re also unfortunately building them in suburban towns like Woking which is just horrible
  16. I use a set of Sony earbud type headphones, only cost £10 and they cut out most noise. I wear them every night. Sounds like you’ll have to get an air con unit for your bedroom for hot spells?
  17. It definitely wasn’t the prettiest. Most of it has been bulldozed but at least near/in London, new tower blocks are going up everywhere. Hideous
  18. Sunnier, warmer and wetter all sound ok to me. Hope it happens. 1960’s must have been grim!
  19. Noise is such a nightmare, that’s difficult to deal with. Have you tried sleeping with a white noise machine or with noise-cancelling earbuds? I use the latter and can’t hear anything with open windows
  20. Oooh Guinness, nice. My Mum drank a pint of Guinness near-daily when pregnant with me in the early 70’s, that was the best way to get more iron into the blood, apparently Booked a week in Spain late September
  21. It’d be nice to see the sun finally blasting the gloom away, before the planet gets vaporised. Hope you get great weather in Turkey
  22. Would be amazing, 2500 hours of sunshine, what a dream. Spread throughout the year, of course so everyone could enjoy it. I think the sun would have to go supernova before we got more sun lol
  23. Looks like a couple more days of chilly gloom before a week or more of low-mid 20’s°C, perfect
