  1. Yes we’re lucky this time, July was different when the fronts just seemed to stall over us while a few hundred miles to the south it was often warm and beautifully sunny. Very frustrating, am not a fan of slow-moving fronts in general (unless it’s snowing lol)
  2. Yes I dislike that, too. Can’t beat those cold sunny days and foggy, frosty nights, love them. Atlantic wind and rain definitely gets old quite quickly, don’t mind short spells of it but it often goes on and on for weeks/months
  3. Must be frustrating for you, totally get it. The SE often does well in these synoptics. Hopefully the sunshine will hang on all day and some will appear your way Agree!
  4. Only a matter of time. Have done pretty well so far, makes up a bit for that yucky July
  5. Looks like SE is best today, beautiful so far
  6. Lovely sunny morning in west London, currently 20°C with a NE’ly breeze. September really is delivering this year
  7. Lovely at Heathrow, sunny and nearly clear blue skies, thankfully no vile grey muck and a most pleasant 23°C currently
  8. Nice autumnal morning here in Czechia, down to 11°C with some mist and fog. Back to London today for a week’s working block, looks pleasant for the next day or two
  9. I hate them too, they are very aggressive. I saw one trying to eat a big snail once, not heard of bats though, wow
  10. Yes, looking at them you think, how is that going to take down a house spider, but then see them in action. They move so fast!
  11. Still warm here at 27°C currently with sunny spells and it’s quite windy. I can see some big cumulonimbus in the distance. Could do with a storm
  12. Absolutely. I love blue skies, and really hate too much grey. Cloud is acceptable if something is falling from it. It’s the far-too-frequent, pointless muck that does my head in. However, I think I’m ready for the change of season. It reached 30°C here today (can’t believe I’m saying this) but I’ve kind of had enough of the heat. Definitely need some decent rainfall to water in the grass seed and new shrubs, then some lovely sunny autumn days around 20°C would be great.
  13. Ah…..grey, dreary muck, oh what joy it must be to get it back after an entire week of awful sunshine Flew back to Czechia last night for my 3 days off and it’s still beautiful here, sunny and very warm, currently 27°C. Was looking at the sunshine stats for Heathrow for the 3 summer months and provisional Met Office data shows 250 hours for June, 150 hours for July and 171 hours for August. The averages are 210, 220 and 200 hours, respectively. So a deficit of 59 hours, works out to approximately 10% lower than average. Not overly disastrous as a whole, but also not ‘average’.
  14. And just like that, it’s the return of the clag monster Still clinging on to a bit of warmth at least
  15. Not arguing, just chatting but point taken
  16. Completely overcast at Heathrow, no blue sky whatsoever. 25°C so still feeling warm
  17. Fair enough, though ‘nationwide’ isn’t always particularly specific/useful. I agree we’ve had worse summers, this one could’ve been worse though a large part of it wasn’t great
  18. I’d say they’re all of equal importance, but temperature is often regarded as the only important factor, which to me isn’t particularly scientific
  19. Agree. Temperature is of obvious importance, but so are all the other statistics/data. I’d certainly prefer the 22 max / 8 min scenario to the other one, sadly the other one is all too prevalent
  20. Absolutely, and this is why statistics don’t pick up nuanced details so well. For example, one of the biggest reasons the temperatures were above average was due to a plethora of warm, cloudy nights. Completely useless to anyone if the days are cloudy and the same/similar temperature. For me, sunshine/brightness is the all-important detail, not so much temperature
  21. Yes, they were, am definitely not arguing that.
  22. Very true. It might be warm-ish but grey skies and drizzle aren’t particularly usable or pleasant
  23. It wasn’t a below average summer based on temperature alone. Of course, it’s not particularly scientific to exclude all other statistics and data, such as sunshine totals, rainfall, wind speeds, etc. All of which are just as important but somehow seem to get non-scientifically missed out/ignored by some?
  24. Cloud is clearing nicely in west London to sunny spells and feeling very pleasant at 21°C currently
