IMO, Jo this is a bad idea. Unfortunately, I can only see the tabloid media exploiting this with more histrionic headlines and with humorous overtones such as Windy Wendy to give UK a good blow or Bertie is going to let rip.
The early evenings don't seem to last that long to me compared to the late mornings. I'm sure that is just an illusion but it seems to take ages for the mornings to start get lighter and lighter earlier.
Not impressed. Notable storms can be named after the year, month, special occasion or the town or area that was hit worst.
Oct 87 storm, Burns Day 90 storm, Christmas Eve 97 storm, Boxing Day 98 storm, Jan 76 storm etc,
Took a time-lapse last night of the waxing and waning of autumnal mists. Some interesting lighting effects as headlights from vehicles on the M62 catch the mists
Is it me or is that absolute garbage? How can be it cold and dry for Wales and Midlands, too mild for North but snow for Scotland?
That smacks of computer generated twaddle.
This makes depressing stats for warm summer fans. Summer months below 1971-2000 CET averages since 2001. If we divide into decadal periods, 2001-10 and 2011-2020, then we have already had more below average summer months since 2011-to now than were in the period 2001-10

It's not a classic northerly anyway. It's just the wind flow between the low in the North Sea and the high to the west of Ireland. It wouldn't have been a brilliant northerly in winter, it's not a deep northerly.
The Manchester Summer Indices of the 1960s

1963 194
1964 197
1965 189

In the last 8 years, they were three worst summers than this: 2007, 2008 and 2012.
Interestingly Junes of 2012 and 2013 were cooler than any of the Junes of the 1960s for the CET. The Junes of the 1960s were not cool infact they were on the warmer than average side as a whole. It's the other two months that tended to let those summers down.
Another thing to note is that the summers of 1961, 1962, 1964, 1967 and 1969 were on the whole drier than average for England and Wales.
It's all to do with the power of the sun. Enough heating to get the convection going. In midwinter, it just isn't there the power of the sun, it can be at the back end of winter.
