  1. I recall a post last month saying no point of building more reservoirs if it doesn't rain often enough. That poster must think the UK has been turned into the Atacama desert in June. It really looks ridiculous now that post. It does rain often enough in the UK!!
  2. Manchester Summer Index 1976 301 1995 298 1983 278 1955 277 1911 274 2018 272 1984 271 1959 269 1975 268 1949 267 1989 262 2022 261 1947 255 1933 251 1901 249 1921 249 2003 247 1925 246 1935 243 2023 241 (up to 21st July) 1994 240 1934 238 1940 238 2021 238
  3. I point out that the same poster said they expect to see a winter with regular 20C+ this decade in a post earlier in the week. And they are complaining about exaggeration?
  4. Last time the Open was played at Hoylake in 2014, didn’t they reschedule the tee offs because of the weather warning threat for thunderstorms? In the end there were no storms or at least not during play.
  5. Its not a mass of heavy rain, live 9 miles from the ground to the west and by the looks of the radar it looks as though the bulk of the rain will pass through soon. So just hope there could be even be just an hour of play, today.
  6. The contrast between July and August 1936 was stark especially when it came to rainfall totals July 1936 CET: 15.3 August 1936 CET: 16.1 July 1936 rainfall for England and Wales: 138.0mm August 1936 rainfall for England and Wales: 28.4mm Rainfall in % terms for July 1936 England and Wales: 191% Scotland: 150% Ireland: 197% British Isles: 182% For August 1936 England and Wales: 39% Scotland: 70% Ireland: 45% British Isles: 48% Ross-on-Wye July: 147.3mm August: 5.8mm Holne July: 272.8mm August: 13.2mm Sunshine July 1936 Aberdeen 138hrs (-13) Dublin: 116hrs (-56) Chester: 127hrs (-33) Ross-on-Wye: 125hrs (-63) Kew: 139hrs (-56) Sunshine August 1936 Aberdeen: 177hrs (+38) Dublin: 169hrs (+13) Chester: 180hrs (+26) Ross-on-Wye: 185hrs (+18) Kew: 185hrs (+2) July 1936 was cyclonic dominated with above average rainfall, little sunshine and low maxima although minima were above average often. Valentia didn't record a single dry day. There was a windy spell in the south with gales on the 18th of July, Calshot recorded a gust of 59mph. August 1936 was a considerably drier month with high pressure much more dominating. The last week of August was very good with prolonged sunshine and dry weather. Maxima got into the mid to high 20Cs July 1936 August 1936
  7. The only type of duck I want to see this weekend is that from Aussie batsmen....
  8. Also that July 1990 was the first fairly decent July ending in "0" since 1900. July 2000 was poorish, July 2010 was very poor for west and north, much better to south and east July 2020 was poor.
  9. For late July, that is a shocker Not far off this terrible chart from the end of July 1956 which gave summer gales
  10. I think ECM need to readjust their scale on the 2m graphs, not one ensemble reaches the 25°C threshold
  11. Manchester Summer Index 1976 301 1995 298 1983 278 1955 277 1911 274 2018 272 1984 271 1959 269 1975 268 1949 267 1989 262 2022 261 1947 255 1933 251 1901 249 1921 249 2003 247 1925 246 1935 243 2023 243 (up to 17th July)
  12. July 1988/1989 contrast July 1910/1911 There's going to be a contrast between this July and last July. I think the greatest contrast will probably be more with sunshine and rainfall levels.
  13. I think you misunderstand my post. I'm talking about comparing this July with July last year.
  14. It's looking more and more that's it going be one of those occasions where there' s a contrast between this month and its predecessor last year. July 2006/2007, August 1911/1912 were spectacular examples for summer. Other examples January 1795/1796 for winter March 2012/2013 for spring November 1993/1994 for autumn
  15. Terrible ECM 12z 240 chart. Blackpool/Southport/Morecambe in that at the start of the school holidays. Luckily its 240hrs away and not just 48hrs
  16. I noticed that with Matt Hugo as well. People forget last August had a CET of 18.7 and was very dry for the EWP
  17. I will be absolutely amazed if we did this decade because based on the simple fact that we only recently recorded a 20C for the first time during a winter month only as recent as 2018-19. Also the warmest winter month ever recorded, December 2015, which had a CET of the equivalence of a very warm April never recorded one 20C at all, anywhere. A winter with regular 20+C ? this decade?
  18. Mid July 1973 was grim for central parts of the UK with prolonged heavy rain causing floods caused by a slow moving pressure. 1973 is not a year that you associated with wet weather and floods. It was a very dry year overall for England and Wales. Manchester recorded around 73mm over 16th and 17th July 1973 Manchester Evening News Grimsby Hull Stoke Liverpool Brigg North Wales
  19. That was interesting that little feature that gave that storm this morning . Can be seen on my timelapse from 1.55 onwards as it developed
  20. That was interesting that little feature this morning that brought the storm to Greater Manchester. Can be seen on my timelapse from 1.55 onwards as it developed
