  1. Altocumulus castellanus moving quite fast, a litte bit of a breeze and feels as though the temperature has dropped.
  2. Where's here? Can you add your location for a frame of reference.PS. Welcome.
  3. August can be warmer than July, September can be warmer than August, September can be warmer than July, June can be warmer than July and August but when it comes to long term averages, I think you will find that July is warmer than August. I'm not aware of an occasion when the 30 year average for July was less than that of August. Maybe worth looking at but not in recent times, certainly not with the last three 30 year averages.
  4. I think we're more overdue a notably cold autumn (sub 9C for CET), the last one was 1993.
  5. July 1880 was one of the most thunderiest months on record. Killingholme (Lincs) recorded 14 days of thunder which was described as a remarkable month for thunder, lightning and rain. Culford (Suffolk) recorded 13 days of thunder. Kew recorded 12 days of thunder. Mansfield (Notts) recorded 11 days of thunder. Other reports Shifnal: A month of thunderstorms and rain, thunder either near or distant on most days. Boston: The month has been remarkable for the constant succession of thunderstorms and heavy rain. Banbury: An unusual amount of thunder and lightning. Manchester: Much thunder and many thunderstorms. Llandudno: An unusual amount of thunder from the 12th to 16th. Killaloe: Frequent thunderstorms. Not surprisingly, it was a very wet month with shallow showery depressions frequent during the month. Some rainfall totals London Camden Square: 129.5mm Banbury: 135.4mm Addington: 209.2mm Langtree Wick: 242.1mm Bury St Edmunds: 116.6mm Barnstaple: 181.4mm Cirencester: 185.9mm Leicester: 171.2mm Cardiff: 168.7mm Braemar: 101.6mm
  6. Starting to notice it now, its not as as light at 10 o'clock now. Infact, that it is a good test, especially with the sun setting earlier and earlier now, choose a time after sunset and judge the light level at that time for each day over the next fortnight.
  7. Gone out the window now. Not even in top 25 now.
  8. Thursday evening looks interesting for parts of NW England on GFS 12Z. An area of sub -4 CAPE, maxima into the 20+Cs and high dewpoints. Thunderstorms?
  9. Pretty active today around here with torrential rain, thunder and lightning at times.
  10. Summer Index up to 242, not seen a value that high since 2006
  11. Saw lightning from the cell to my west. Distant thunder, a few seconds later.
  12. Carlisle according to weatheronline has had 49mm in the last 6 hours. Any campers in the Lake District got and are still getting a serious soaking.
  13. There were some joke predictions last night in this thread. We were told that NW England would probably record the least amount of rain, we were told that nowhere would record more than 15mm from this even though some stations had already had before the time of post was made. We were told it was going tits up before it even got started despite the models said it was going to get heavier as the night went on. Predictions not based on fact but based on how many toys were thrown out of the pram. I rather give 82 million to professionals than some of the tantrum, histrionics that were around yesterday evening.
