  1. It's been windy in Newport for 1 or 2 hours now, just been out and it's quite gusty!
  2. I hear that precip showing on the radar isn't even the front. This is a quote from south west england thread..
  3. Yeah the M.O forecasts are changing back and forth and not really matching the TV forecast. Cardiff said heavy snow then sleet an hour ago, now its back to heavy snow. Same is currently happening with Newport's forecast. Heavy snow > sleet > heavy snow > sleet
  4. That precipitation in the far S.W of the radar, is that the snow coming or something unrelated that's popped up out of nowhere?
  5. That's weird since all television forecasts have shown heavy snow over cardiff and quite far westwards during those times.
  6. BBC news 24 weather forecast just mentioned about villages being cut off due to snow drifts too.
  7. Gusty winds are here now and almost exactly from the south east according to my iPhone compass. Temp 3 degrees and gradually dropping.
  8. I'm sure Beechwood park will be packed full of sledgers tomorrow!!
  9. Derek's forecast showed a blob of snow over S/S.E Wales Cardiff, Newport, Valleys for 24+ hours tomorrow!
  10. With all this snow and snow covered nighttime temps probably going to drop -10 or below in red areas, it's not going to be melting anytime soon? It'll be pretty for a day or 2 but probably end up being quite nasty.
  11. Red warning now on M.O website! Not seen one of them for snow before, let alone for S Wales.
  12. Ignore the current high temps, they're forecast to drop 3-4 degrees by the met office in time for tomorrow's snow.
  13. 2 degrees and the snow has started in Newport radar is looking good for a bit of snow as long as it doesn't fizzle out again.
  14. Snow prospects have only increased for SE Wales so I doubt the predicted totals of 2-5cm in lowland areas are correct. More like 10-15cm and then huge totals with the drifting in the valleys. Hopefully....
  15. Forecast is now heavy snow tonight Not sure how reliable it is since it's only appeared recently but it goes to show how surprising and unpredictable snow can be.
  16. Good signs that the precipitation is falling as snow in west wales. Hopefully it won't fizzle out before it reaches the east
  17. Well both Derek's and Ian's forecast show heavy snow all day for S.E Wales. 25cm+ in the valleys with a lot of drifting, maybe 40cm or 1/2 a meter? Crazy stuff!
  18. Met office forecasts have updated showing sleet all day for Cardiff + Newport. Hopefully it'll go back to heavy snow forecasts....
  19. I'm so excited! S.E wales is in the amber warning currently so there should be 10cm here. This min temperature chart is showing -16 over the snowy areas of wales on sat night/sun. Not entirely reliable yet but BRRRR!! http://expert-images.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/proficharts/en/2013/01/16/basis06/ukuk/tmin/13012006_2_1606.gif
  20. BBC website is showing a bit of light snow and then sleet.. although i'd take that with a pinch of salt. It never seems to be right, usually overestimating temps and wrong with the precipitation. According to the BBC forecast for Newport it's only just reached 0 celcius, even though it was below freezing since 4pm and is now -5.
  21. -3.5 in Newport and the grass is already frosting over - it's not even 6pm!
  22. Garden thermometer (albeit a cheap basic one) showing -2 already in Newport, it's going to be a chilly one for inland areas tonight!
  23. Disappointing post from Ian F, but snow forecasts seem to change even a few hours before they happen.. "Atlantic push of milder air much faster on new NAE through Thursday, hence much to play for in terms of broader evolution thereafter IF the NAE prog has any validity. At the moment... we lean otherwise."
  24. More heavy showers coming down from the north and they're a bit further east on the radar. Hopefully Newport gets something interesting this time.
  25. It's been dry for nearly an hour now in Newport. The heavy precipitation is just a few miles away to the west. Argh!
