Experienced freezing rain once only, in Bruges last December. Was horrific, saw cyclists just going A over T. We were walking on cobbled roads, so dangerous, pavements were sheets of ice. My coat was an ice sheet.
Had it here in Dover a few years back, no thanks, although the uppers then went negative, and we had snow on top of ice, horrific.

That sounds like a pretty sheety experience lol
Really need a laughing emoji for your posts. Lol.

Hmmm if the fog clears it could mean the surface cold is mixing out and warm air coming in, be interesting to see if under clear skies your temps change at all
We'll everything has frosted over quick, fog was keeping it moist not allowing freezing , so far anyway

Fog is going now,can see nice clear stary sky.

Will this small LP in Scotland make any difference to the cold holding on?

It’s snowing in Dover ? Work colleague just said
Can see something, it's probably diamond dust, incidentally high still rising 1017,50 now, will probably peak soon, we'll see.

Dennis, apologies but I'm confused again. I am aware that Norway is cold and snowy. Do you have a message for the UK or are you rubbing our noses in it?!
That chart shows strong southeasterlies, that will indeed be quite cold. Low looks like it might go under too

Going to be touch and go if we actually get an official Ice day, warm air aloft may ruin it if this arrive before midnight.. It’s been around -2c all day …
It's a high, warm air aloft is not going to effect ground temps, till cloud from the west comes over, due to fog we won't see when that is, unless the fog clears

Chris Fawkes announced the BIG FREEZE goes on.Then shows max temps between 6 and 8 degrees.I don't think he's a weatherman but somebody who dresses smartly and slips past security.
Think he's forecasting something that isn't in whatever the BBC have on there computerised charts, seen it a few times, have even seen a forecaster say ignore the graphics, this is what's happening

From a high of -0.5c today to a forecast high of 10c tomorrow, winter does see some big temperature swings!
Let's see what happens, as we got no where near our forecast max temps today, didn't get above 0 here on the SE coast, big surprise as far as I'm concerned.

Temp falling pressure still rising, currently 1017.34

If only we could have a weather surprise for once, the precip slipping under the cold, giving some heavy snow to wake up to in the morning.
Would be nice if this stuff under cuts out cold. Think most likely scenario though is ice rain, 850,s are likely to warm. We'll see, I'd like to hope 850s stay below 0, but unlikely.

Just looked at some observations, and it seems we have a high over the SE, though we were in a trough situation like last year. Explains the fog, it's a cold high though, wondering if tonight's low will go west to east, or ne over the high, it's further north, so perhaps that the change. I'm wondering if we'll stay dry tonight. High is in strengthening faze.
Not sure we wanted it further north though, guess things warm up tomorrow for us.

I've had both, but the fog melted the snow, can't be the temp cause we've stayed below 0 somehow.

Interestingly, according to the radar, light precip in mid Wales is all snow, heavier precip north wales rain/sleet with a little snow over what I presume is the highest mountains. In the regional threads, it’s been reported as being sub zero in Dorset again. Appreciate it’s all fluid amd evolving, but still looks a little complicated…
Must say it's been freezing here all day. With fog, but last night's snow melted anyway lol. We'll see what happens.

If the snow up north, which kind of looks low shaped is today's/tonight's expected disturbance, it's much further north than expected.

Umm. Not sure.. this 06z was far worse for cold then yesterday's 06z. The ensembles seem to have less humdingers than yesterday as well. Also the evening runs are no longer eye candy. Cast you mind back to last Sunday and Tuesday where there some 1980s retro pipe bursters. Yesterday's 12z were at best ecm day 9 and 10 which were no better than potential enablers for day 12 onwards..
Yep definitely.

I have seen on the news that it snowed in North London. I am in North London and there isn't any snow. Are they making stuff up even about current weather now????
No idea, it did snow down here last night, twice, just a thin covering, but gone now, replaced with fog.

Ahh with you now ( I think) Diamond Dust , only ever experienced this in the Alps when just popping out through the tops of the cloud base , amazing sight to behold
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Io7L_tynCRQ&t=15sI've only seen I once, at night, and the moon was visible, it looked like sparkling bits of dust, called it fairy dust, to the kids, they were up late, and I just had to let them see it, they were, as you can imagine mesmerized.

I've been looking at the ecm run again because something struck me the first time I viewed it. Does anyone else think that the transition from the 144 chart to the 168 looks odd? Like, it doesn't look like a natural 24 hour progression that you would expect to see? Or it could just be me.
Low gets squeezed out perhaps?
But yep certainly looks odd for sure.
