As an eternal optimist, even i am struggling to find positives tonight. It has to get better soon. The only positive so far is that February 1991 came out of a similarly poor situation

all the signs were there this time, despite what some might say, the seasonal forecasts were justifiably good for our winter. I still think we have a good chance at a decent winter. After all, it's only really started so plenty of time for changes.

Right now though, it seems like we have fallen into a barrel of t*ts and come out sucking our thumbs!

Sounds even worse than last winter, least then we had loads of potential to enjoy:D

My brief and to the point run down of the models for cold !

    GFS  Terrible

    GEM Terrible

UKMO Slight interest at T144hrs, better upstream pattern at that stage.

ECM Terrible but slightly less terrible at T240hrs than the GFS

JMA Has some interest , the best of the nights outputs upto T192hrs however we only wheel it out in desperate times and seeing as we hit Code Red with the GFS/ECM it had to make an appearance!

NAVGEM Mediocre but trending terrible at T180hrs.

Overall there are differences upstream with shortwaves running across the USA and moving into the Atlantic, in terms of speed and amplitude and these impact the prospects of getting some energy to head se under the high to the east. At this point unless theres much more sharpness to  troughing to the west then its hard to see an escape from the ECM/GFS horror show.

Isn't it about that time of year you start giving the models marks out of 10 each night?

Greenland heights aren't expected until after mid month, that's why. Whatever UKMO and GFS are showing out to T+144 is pretty irrelevant at the moment. It's post T+240 that's important with hopefully a growing signal for Greenland heights in the GEFS

    Why is it always T+240?

Bit like the other half finally cleaning the cooker, always T+240

Looking at the 6z with my untrained eye,i can't see anything to get exited about, quite the opposite in fact.Strong jet with dart board lows lined up to hit us.

Of course, that's all set to change post T+240:cold: well,one can dream.:)

Well the CFS 0z(9 monthly) run which I've been following since the start of October has been pretty accurate for the last month and the beginning of November, just tentative signs of more zonal conditions mid to late November, December fairly zonal with Euro HP close at times.

Tbf,Darwin,my pet Bearded Dragon could give a forecast of Dec being fairly Zonal with Hp close at times.Hardly sticking one's neck out.Tomorrow i'm likely to go to the little boys room:DCourse it probably is,just like every other month.

Looking good for the barby outside the woodshed for Easter. :shok:

    gfs_t2maf_slp_eur3_65.thumb.png.98ae7d5b

We are having a barbi on sat lunchtime, before the Eng v Wales game.

Could have had one this lunchtime, sat outside after work, would actually call it warm in shelter from the breeze.

Looking like winds going Easterly for next week.Good news is that it will dry the ground out.Bad news, will be chilly in the breeze.

On your side now Knocker until November when i become a Coldy again.

Here's hoping next winter will see a run on blue crayon sales at tesco.:)

Well last day of winter goes out on a rather cold dry note. Not a single day with full Snow cover and only one day with measurable snow in the morning. A wet winter and 4th warmest winter we've recorded. Fairly quiet winter overall only three days where 60 mph gusts were recorded.

    Lucky,i never saw a flake

Still look on the bright side. I was down at the lake yesterday on a terrific springlike morning and the Robins were singing away, the Great Tits cavorting and I even saw three Nuthatches. Fascinating to watch them nip up trees. And Sidney was very skittish at the thought of Spring.

Aren't you a bit old to be admiring Tits,Knocker?

Trust me the stuff on Dartmoor was barely worthy of being called snow, just a wet mess really. A good summer is now needed to at least provide some seasonal balance and you would have to think another cool wet one couldn't possibly follow what we have endured this extended autumn, but it's prudent never to lose sight of what an appalling climate we have and if things can go wrong somewhere then chances are it will be here!

Yeah, but a" wet mess" more than i've seen this winter.

Any more flake chasers ready to throw the towel in on this sorry joke of a season?

Come on...you know it makes sense.

Might as well chase bubbles on a windy day...you've as much chance of catching one as you have of seeing snow on the ground in the dying days of this wretched season.

    Yep,think iv'e had enough now,it aint gonna happen this winter,me think's.

Typical though, had a break in north devon last weekend. Went up on Exmoor, not a flake in site, got back to the site, turned on T.V to see kids building snowmen on Dartmoor:wallbash:

Cant even get pick the right Moor!!

Looking for some spring warmth now and hopeing for a nice summer.

Have enjoyed the roller-coaster that is this forum, will def be back, next year.

As they say down here "cheers and gone"

Maybe I should have said 'parts of' in hindsight?

On a different note, my quick look at the EC32, and apart from the trough disruption over western UK next THursday, the run looks generally anticyclonic up until day 16 or so, after which a more mobile and cyclonic westerly flow takes over.

    Thanks. Perhaps "bit of"?

Devon +Cornwall= "LOT" of West country. To me,anyway.

    Cheers,the forgotten
