yes ,not even a cold spell now, those temps are the average for jan, what a massive letdown, what happened to those greenland heights the models were showing a day or so ago, trouble is none of it was in the semi-reliable time-frame anyway,so we should have know it was unlikely to happen .At least the meto have never said it would be anything special to begin with.I've been very impressed with their medium range forecasts this winter .
Agreed, through all this pantomime, the Met have constantly sung from the same hymn book and look like being spot on.
They must have information that's alot more reliable than anything we get to see on here.
Makes me think, what's the point, why spend our lives pouring over data which is obviously sub-standered to their's.
Those guy's at the Met must have a right chuckle about the shenanigans going on here.

It's still a pretty normal spell of weather. Temperatures are going to be around the 7 or 8 mark during the day down here.
You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter. I don't know why so many get excited in the mod thread, the same offenders fall for it every year. lol
Even down here,a cold spell is temp's in low single figures(2-5c)
Next week's temp's dont go below 7-8,even on thurs/fri!!!!!!
Cold spell,what cold spell,pathetic.

Getting a decent snowfall in Cornwall is always a tricky business except on occasion on Bodmin Moor. The ideal situation is already established cold air and then a front approaching from the SW very similar to the 1955 episode I posted in the history thread yesterday. The situation we have now with a complex system off lows floating around mainly from the NW isn't going to do the business as it simply isn't cold enough down here.
Depends what you mean by decent.
Have seen snow settle lots of times in a north west flow.
Far more common here than snow fall in any Easterly set-up.

Watching BBC's weather for the week ahead, has left me underwhelmed, to say the least.
Temps never go below 8c,(even thurs and fri) with periods of rain. Not exactly what i would call winter.
Never mind, had a heavy Hail shower this morning which briefly turned the drive white, probably as good as it will get.

Internet snow-lovers' daily mental journey around the GFS issues.
Love it.
Would add, it sums up this whole community at present.

Look, we're going to get a frost!!! Isn't that better than anything else this winter down south???
Dam right.First time this winter i could see my breath, and the car registered 3c. Stars out as well.
Just to scrape the car windscreen once this winter would be like winning the lottery(well, not quite)
COME ON, just 1 frost out of this cold spell,is that asking to much?
Probably.

Well,if the GFS12z is to be believed then there's no snow for me next week. Just lots of lovely, cold rain.
As usual, cold just getting pushed further and further back, always just over the horizon.
TBH as someone who works outside,i just want some dry weather, cold and dry would have been nice, but failing that, just dry.
Never known the ground quite as wet as it is at present, cant take much more of this.

Take the mrs shoping tell her the bridge is shut due to metal fatigue and the ferry was sunk by the storms. Only one other way into plymouth
LOL I will bear that in mind. Try Bodmin moor first though, shorter drive

Trust me i know what to expect! I moved down from the midlands thirty years ago and have only seen liying snow a handfull of times.
My point was that imo the mark of a proper cold spell is if we can get snow in around the lizzard . Only then can we say its been special
Or maybe im just being shellfish.
Your alright, you've got Dartmoor on your doorstep.

what do you expect living in the mildest part of the country?..having said that I think a few are definitely going overboard regarding cold and snow..words like bitter cold..heading for a deep freeze and copious amounts of snow..yes it will be cold but not overly so and a lot of precip will be marginal..plus its not a done deal yet..could be another 8 days or so before any real cold hits..if it dioes?
Oh no,i totally agree, learnt through bitter experience to never expect anything down here.
It's just that yesterday it was looking like a nationwide event,i could actually join in rather than cheer from the side lines.
To replace mild rain for cold rain isn't something i'm particually looking foreword to.
Still, looking good for alot of the U.K,nice to see it even if only on telly.

All the cold ramping going on,people saying its gona special bla bla bla. 5oc where i live for next week... 5 degrees!.... Hardly special is it!
( in no way was this a IMBY post in anyway )
See the Met update remains the same, they still seem quite confident of this being a 2-3 day snap.
Doesn't look as good for the south west, this snow storm everyone's going on about would be just more rain down here. Look's like we've lost the really cold air showing yesterday.
Think this cold spell could be a case of watching the snow on t.v while watching it rain outside. Nothing new for here,i might add.
Least knocker will be happy
This is a nimby post,by the way.

Ahhhhh. You can always come round here to get warm, still got some mince pies left over.
You'd have to swap benches, however. Only cold ramper's in this house.

You mean like the vast majority of posters in the other thread cornish? I find it rather amusing when they start foamy at the mouth when, allegedly, they are dictated to by others when the raison d'etre of the thread is to do exactly that.
No,the vast majority of poster's in the other thread and this one,for that matter are "coldies" They are biased, as am i towards cold weather in winter and proud of it.

Unbelievable. Now the BBC are getting it in the neck from the opinionated ones in the other thread.
Come on though, our own David Braine, mildy if ever there was one.
Seems to positivly glow whenever it's wet and mild.
BBC weather presenter's should be completely un-biased knocker, just like you.

I suppose 8c is much colder compared to the rest of the winter so far.
Maybe, this is a taster for the "cold snaps" of the future.
Hope not.
