Lol. I love the nation that is Cornwall, there is a real sense of it not really belonging to the rest of the country. If I could buy and convert the church at Gunwalloe I'd be like a pig in poo.
Know it well, only a few miles away.
Bit blowy though,south-west facing and busy in the summer, alot of emit's.

Evening campers just the latest from the woodshed with this evening's anomalies which shows little change. The well established upstream pattern remains with Aleutian Low, western N. American ridge into the Pole, and PV N. Canada and trough eastern North America extending SE to eastern trough over the UK. So no interruption to the NW/W flow over the UK bringing periods of windy and wet weather some of which could be quite wintry particularly up north. Temps variable because of transitory systems but generally a little above average.
No huge change in the ext period except with the GEFS the Russian HP does ext over the Pole so no indication of any respite from the unsettled westerly regime. (can't post the ecm)
The plunge of very cold air over eastern N. America has been noted over in the cold thread (actualy very interesting how far south it gets) but by the same token take a gander at the plus anomalies over Russia associated with the strong ridge.
Do your anomalies ever show much change,Knocker?
If only Calsberg did anomalies

It's quite appalling how this anti cold bias is creeping into the very fabric of life lately. It's as well we have the MOD thread which takes a far more objective view of the weather that allows readers to assimilate a far more balanced picture.

Come on Knocker, you've watched spotlight as much as i have.

Just watched a pleasant young lady on the t.v telling me that I am going to have yet another crap weekend. Don't know if it's my imagination, but I swear they almost look pleased about it sometimes.
It's not them,it's the BBC's bias towards mild weather.
Lost count of the amount of times our local presenter has presented a forecast giving heavy rain, howling gales, prepare for structal damage, but ends with a big smile on his face saying,"at least it will be mild"
Heaven forbid we might have a touch of frost, run to the hills, run for your lives.
Seems that flooding, storm force winds and power cuts are preferred to a bit of grass frost.

..... but i didnt read gibbys post as 'one sided', far from it, he said that all weather types should be discussed and not just the hunt for cold.
Agreed, trouble is,not many people want to talk about wind, makes for a quick conversation.
Personally, high winds dont float my boat, sink it more like. Just a pain in the bum if you ask me.

To many people giving up on winter today.
It's the 1st of Feb for ----'s sake,not March18th
See even 1 of the big hitter's on the mod thread, ready to through in the towel if the Ecm12's is poor. Really, brave call if you ask me.
For all i know,3 weeks from now,i might be sledging down my favourite hill. Probalbly won't but hey,you never know.
If there's 1 thing above all else iv'e learned on here,it's that things can change quickly. Today's horror show can be tomorrow's Nivarna.
Personally,i think something's coming,dont know why,cant post any charts to back this up,just a feeling iv'e got.
Saying something when probably, the most southely member of this forum, still has hope.

Viewing the latest model output, reminds me of a kids T.V show from the 80's "Why dont you"
What was it they said?
"Sitting at home watching T.V,turn it off,it's no good to me.
Think i'll turn of my lap-top and go out and do something less boring instead.

You must remember jan 87,knocker.
The lizard was cut off for about a week, snow drift's up level with the hedges, gillan creek where i lived, almost frozen solid.
Haven't seen anything even remotely like it since. Once in a 50 year event.

The ecm is similar and a beady has to kept on the depression that shoots west to east next Monday that at the moment is looking like it could produce gusts in the 70-80kt range for Scotland. Also after this by mid week the next system traverses the UK further south bringing some very wet and windy conditions to all. After hiting the North Sea the UK is plunged into a cold northerly briefly. I just thought I would mention this as I would hate to think I might be accused of cherry picking.
Is that it? Is that your cold plunge post,iv'e been waiting for?
Well done, you've done it,do you feel liberated?

but anyone midlands south are going to be very negative as winter looks unlikely.
dreadful out look unless a real straight Arctic northerly comes along then southern southeastern and southwest look likely to have continued cold wet windy at times with flooding possible.
its very dire for the areas I've singled out.
ineffective nw flow sorry just don't float my boat one bit.
the models are very much in agreement of a rather strong vortex being stretched and displaced but not enough to produce a block in an ideal area instead the blocks in other areas of the Arctic are the reason for a none starter here in the south.
towel thrown in winter is over down here I'm fairly confident of that.
It's all relative though,isn't it.
Yes,if your looking for minus double digits with foot long icicles, hanging off the gutters, then your probably right.
But,if like me,you would be happy with a couple of snow shower's and an hours sledging, then no,winter's not over.
Feb hasn't even begun yet, plenty of time to see some white stuff.
People need to be realistic, this is the U.K,it will be mostly mild, most winter's.
One of the best snowfall's recently, here, was 28th feb 2004. Feb 28th is STILL, 5 weeks away, keep the faith.

Take it,your not a fan of this torpedo malarkey,Knocker

If you check on the strat thread you can see how things are faring. The answer is pretty good, with a warming inevitable but with the size of it in question, maybe with it just creating vortex displacement without any real split (this vortex ain't coming down without a big, big struggle). As with anything that the mentioned posters have said this comes with a number of caveats; where the pv gets pushed to, will there be a recalcitrant lobe remaining over Greenland etc.)
So,i'm i right to say the torpedo is the SSW ?
