  1. Weather warning from met snow over high ground after midnight, meanwhile huge shower leaving Ireland heading to Wales

I've got my eye on those! :)

Only 9 metres asl here, but there's always a chance.

  2. I was pleasantly surprised to see just snow falling in Cardiff and not sleet. It wasn't forecast and it's still quite warm (was 1.9C and dp of 0.6C). Hopefully tonight the temps will drop some more and anything that falls will be snow. I'm happy enough that I've finally seen a flake. It's been close on 2 years since anything has fallen in this neck of the woods.

  4. Big snow shower well reach Cardiff pretty soon,

I hope so! The skies are darkening.

It just goes to show how quickly everything can change with the weather. Yesterday they thought there'd be less PPN today and snow was unlikely for most. While the cold is in we're all in with a chance at some point over the coming days. :)

  5. Apparently it's 9.9c in Cardiff. It sure doesn't feel like it with that wind and misty rain. Feels bitter!

I didn't expect the winds to be this strong. There's been no warnings in place, yet we've had gusts of 53mph and everything is blowing all around.

  6. I'm going to say this and I know you're going to throw things at me (takes a crushed beer can to the head) but I like wet, stormy weather a lot.

There was something genuinely awe-inspiring last Winter knowing that the storms we experienced had travelled thousands of miles across open ocean to reach us, all the way from North America. I'm fascinated by the Atlantic and oceanography and the effects the seas have on weather so the UK, for me, is located in the perfect position on the face of earth despite its moderating effects on any potential cold.

And standing on a hill on a grey, blowy day as a system approaches, looking west towards the ocean and watching the changing cloudscapes rolling towards me? Heavenly.

I'd take snow any day, but I don't find howling gales and rain as depressing as many seem to.

I'm another rain and wind fan. I'd happily take a dull, cloudy and wet day over a dry and sunny one. Of course snow is the ultimate prize, but I like the wind and rain. People are always pointing out how dreadful and miserable the weather is, I disagree, it's miserable for me when it's dry and bright.

  7. Wouldn't trust them automated forecasts, just look at the radar tomorrow night. I remember before they had us down for heavy snow and there wasn't any ppn. Also look at the probability of ppn for that time and it shows 50% I think.

They're  unsure and don't really know what's happening, at least we have a chance. Lamp posts will being watched up and down the country.

BBC national weather showed a few white blobs passing over us Thursday.

  8. December 2010! Remember that, forecast nothing ended up with a foot.

Yep! What a wonderful surprise that was. It belted down! :)  Met Office forecast has changed slightly, now snow forecast at 9am Thursday, it previously was sleet. :yahoo:

  9. From what I can recall, I have never know Cardiff to be forecast a lot of snow. They always go for rain and sleet. The one time I remember we were warned a major snow storm was coming through and we ended up with a very slushy mess. It's always fallen unexpectedly. So fingers crossed, the game is on! :)

  10. A bucket has iced up with water in, but no frost. Still really bitter out there this morning. Maybe it bodes well for later and we'll have a surprise sprinkling, or even better a surprise foot! :)

    Clouds are definitely thickening up.
