Yes it's unbelievable really and just shows how some people live in a bubble. Unfortunately it's likely some poor soul will lose their life from this storm. One bad decision or wrong place wrong time and it's game over. The warning are there to minimise such things and prepare accordingly. Stay safe everyone 🙏

Sad, and shows why warnings are issued 🙏

People in Scotland and Northern Ireland die as a result of fallen trees, with warnings of another storm on the way.

Seems very odd that met office have blanketed the uk in warnings and left a small section out. For instance , follow the A44 towards Oxford /London from where I live and about 18 miles down the road it's in the clear?  Chipping Norton is about 22 miles away from where I live , and that's in the clear, and yet Chipping Norton is one of the highest towns in the Cotswolds, at about 700ft ,much higher than where I live! I think the wind will be even worse for Chipping Norton than my location ,seeing it's height and exposure. .....uummmmmgh !

I live west of oxford very near the amber cut off. Perhaps later I'll walk a mile to the left and report back 😆

The models have really been wobbling today.  Some models only give 60 MPH to warning areas up in Scotland whilst some bring an 100 MPH sting jet to the Scottish coastline. The models will probably gain strong accuracy tomorrow morning and now it’s just a waiting game.

What is really concerning is how long this system is going to last, strong gusts for 8 hours must put excessive strain on trees and would likely lead to multiple road closures across England, Scotland and Wales.

Here are some models below. Make sure to take the Arpege with a grain of salt.

Met office will have to crack open a new pack of orange crayons if those gusts materialise in land.

The standout point for my area tomorrow night, is the longevity of the high gusts.

Over the last couple of years, there's maybe a 1 hour window of peak gusts, with a difference of 10mph or more, on both sides of that window. Tomorrow's forecast gives 6 - 8 hours of almost the same gust speeds of 50 - 60mph. That's highly impressive for here!

Funnily enough I was about to post similar. I cannot remember a storm this intense for my area that has lasted 8 hours in recent times? We've had some 50mph gusts last few months I think but only for a short period. This will be around 60/65 mph so pretty wild by all accounts.

60-70mph widely for inland areas is not to be taken lightly as it is a 1 in 5 year event.

Should be a countrywide amber I think despite this being an evening/overnight event. Hopefully people will avoid travel and trampolines! 🙏

It's model related so you have a right to post it but that's 11 days away and will not verify. For the UK the upcoming spell is decent. Yes its not the 2010 nirvana everyone wants but it was never going to be. We get 5/6 days of cold weather and surprises can crop up. Lots of knee jerk posting on this forum today and absolutely no positivity. Am I also the only member who hates the term " tick tock, tick tock" that will inevitably get trundled out as the days go by. Lol rant over.

Yeah my feelings too. We have a spell of decent cold coming up and with the  chopping and changing of model output what's not to say there will be some interesting twists and turns of the snowy variety along the way? In any case winter isn't done by a long way with Feb and March all to play for!

Expecting gusts around 70-80mph in Worthing tomorrow.

Seems like standard winter weather to me, only now these windstorms are named and come with an awful lot of media hype.

We had something similar in I think February of 2020, massive hype, and when it arrived it was nowhere near as strong as forecast.

It might be standard winter weather for your back yard but for many it is not and it poses a danger. Warnings are justified and necessary.
