Saturday's warning is back only till 11am though
Chief Forecaster's assessment
The air mass across northern Britain will remain exceptionally cold for any time of the year, let alone March. Fortunately for eastern Scotland and northeast England the earlier threat of more persistent, heavy snow seems to have receded, with a regime of scattered snow showers and night-time ice posing a lower risk of disruption overall.
Happy days

Great news that the warnings have been lifted for Saturday, hopefully tomorrow is nothing more than a slight covering.
-
The Durham ensemble shows almost 9 days of very little in the way of rain fall (doesn't mean it won't snow thought)
Easter Saturday has temperatures that resemble spring! sadly rain looks likely at this stage so a mild wet Easter at this very early stage
Getting warmer by Easter Sunday nothing special but after this cold boy would that feel nice out of any rain!
We don't even know whats happening this Friday never mind Easter Saturday.
-
but it IS happening! this does my head in! go outside, the crocus are out in flower, the daffs coming on, the birdsong is there they are singing their spring songs! just because its colder then average doesnt mean spring isnt happening unless youre in eastern scotland which is getting a pasting.
Ive just been outside, there is not a bird to be seen and I cant see any crocus, daffs etc for lying snow.
The models are maybe showing a warm up for southern Britain but just just to make you aware there is life up norf.

left snowy consett this morning and now in sunny sheffield. different world man
It's grim up norf!

What a downgrade. GFS & ECM show that -10 uppers might not even reach the East coast now. Looking cold and wet unless you are on high ground inland.
A little baffling, in the model thread they are saying the ECM is a better run than previous?
-
We've seen our fair share of snow this winter.
TBH I'm sick of the sight of it.
-
Anyone know what conditions are like up Consett/Stanley way? Our lass is due to travel down to Ferryhill tonight for a romantic, candle-lit meal and it might be a bit dodgy for her.
I've just drove back to Consett from Chester-Le-Street and the roads were ok, bit dodgy in exposed places but generally ok.
-
dunno about that ive followed him for over a year hes a very credible forecaster for the aa and im sure he has access to models that we dont
Well in the space of 24hrs he has gone from the GFS been an outlier with it turning milder to a colder blocked solution.
-
happy days matt hugo agrees with his tweets with the likely outcome being cold cold cold
All he does is tweet what the models are showing which changes from run to run and people seem to hang on his every word.

Its all aboard the ECM train this morning!
On route we will be stopping at, Herewegoagain, excitedforum, modelflipflop, seethingmembers and our final destination is epicfail.
And the best thing is its all free.
CHOO CHOO.!

Take what to PM?

Nothing personal, just stating the usual nonsense in this thread of your constant moaning!
-
NickR is seething again!

Surprised how quiet it is here, are you all bored of the snow? I suspect those up in higher parts might be!
So far Ive lost 6 days work with it, tried going back this morning but sacked it off after getting stuck in Consett and spending 45 minutes digging myself out :-(
Tomorrow looks like been a write off also.

So whats the chances of me being able to drive up to Consett from Washington for a look around at the snow? Have the roads been cleared enough to get there or would I just want get stuck?
I wouldn't risk it, I've just come back from the supermarket and you can't see the road anymore.
-
Probably won't be able to see this motor come tomorrow morning!
-
Some people are still amazed we have electricity here Keith
;-)
-
Im amazed the electricity is still on, if we get through tonight without it going off it will be a miracle.
-
Absolutely banging down in Consett like it has been all day! Looking at the radar there's still quite a bit more to come.

BBC news article featuring Consett & Northumberland
