  1. A warm welcome to NW winterlover.. First air frost in London a long way out....
  2. Definitely the further north and east (more mild incursions the further west you are) with altitude the better for snow falling and accumulating. Last winter or was it the winter before there was a local news report on quite a depth of snow accumulating on the top of a city skyscraper helipad. And on ground level not a trace just horrible cold rain. Viewing from observation deck of shard will often show snow descending into rain - depressing.
  3. It was a false dawn completely under a sheet of cloud what a appalling week it has been.
  4. Hi Richie, On another forum you can PM me for further details.
  5. Paul S made a great technical thread regarding that Thames streamer in Feb, 2009. https://forum.netweather.tv/topic/53635-thames-snow-streamer-event-12nd-feb-2009/ Good read
  6. I think in Feb 2009 there a was a crippling Thames streamer that was fun lol! One of those rare times when everything went to a standstill in capital when snow is exceptionally heavy nothing can really be done all you can do is sit back and marvel at the beauty. Lovely where's my snow?
  7. I have been following him for years his no James Madden I assure you.
  8. I agree the seasons are more convoluted. I favour a cold winter outdoing the last 2 by a stretch, I disagree with Dami snow will not be a thing of the past we just go through these peaks and troughs in a sense.
  9. No, I do not think so, you do not use up your tank of southerlies and then get piercing northerly winds. It doesn't work like that also this "it is better to have a mild autumn for an greater chance of a cold winter" -drivel IMO.
  10. The weather does not follow script - the past 2 months have been a total bore.
  11. Not at all...This is uncle Barty in all his glory let us never have a winter like that again! Winter killer - the chart above is nothing of the sort just transitory and not very extensive
  12. A few showers passed over today the radar indicate a rash of showers over our region shame this NE'ly is not in D/J/F.
  13. Sadly a average winter in London will not do, what I want is a properly cold winter. It is sad to know there are toddlers who have no experience of snow and this has to change!..
  14. I'm ashamed to say central heating first went on in late September compared to last year this is a total flip.
  15. Sure is chilly unusually nippy some showers are coming in off the North Sea I imagine these would have been wintry 4-8 weeks down the line when it is overcast & nippy windchill it's not pleasant at all.
  16. Stunning graphic you really are in a league of your own.
  17. December 1st pour London Which is crazily early really but a early start to winter I reckon I do expect a mostly zonal November.
  18. I read this and stopped reading: Following a mild winter for almost all of Europe during the 2013-2014 season, big differences are expected for many areas during the 2014-2015 winter season. The large-scale weather pattern will feature stubborn areas of high pressure over Scandinavia for much of the winter. This setup will funnel colder air into northern and eastern Europe while also forcing the majority of storm systems to track across southern Europe, especially during the second half of winter. This did not happen Eastern Europe had a very mild winter It's a roll of the dice IMO. http://tass.ru/en/non-political/780560
  19. Definitely true whenever there is apbnormal cold in Scandinavia there is always a chance the UK could tap into it under right synoptic as you say. Long range weather forecasting is a fickle business, could anyone share what there thoughts were for last winter? I do think there will be a southerly tracking jet, with the jet being rebounded south - by cold Atlantic & extensive HP over northern latitudes, so a wet winter for the med IMO. The Scottish mountains/hills will do remarkably well. I will be very startled if UK does not have at least 1 notable cold spell the telecommunications are a total reverse to last year, so there are reasons to be hopeful.
  20. I did yesterday for a hour I was away for the weekend had Saturday off and the house was rather chilled.
  21. Morning All. As you can gather I'm not much of a sleeper; it is a cool night 9C currently in Greater London.
  22. Yeah I think his reputable forecaster - he got last winter almost bang on and the winters before that. I always go uneasy when others were going for cold and he had contrasting ideas.
